Hi! I’m Bri from Urban Gardening Canada. I teach gardening information to all levels of gardeners who grow in colder climates, that have to contend with frost, snow, cold nights and short growing seasons. I love to grow vegetables, flowers and fruit and want to teach you how you can grow your own food too. You may see some insects on this channel, because I love bugs and they are an important part of the gardening experience. Gardening is an amazing hobby that can teach you about nature, biodiversity, caring for the planet, and growing your own healthy, organic food.

Just came across your channel. Its nice to get advice that is Canadian specific although I absorb information from all different locations.

Hi! Yes! Canadian garden advice seems to be very few and far between so I'm hoping to fill that gap 🙂 I appreciate your thoughts!

The cucumber beetles have arrived somewhat north of you. Really nasty last year. Some as yet unidentified type just finished attacking the grape vines. No Japanese beetles though. I still a few holes in the garden. Looks like I'll get on that tomorrow. :)

You had pests on your grape vines? Could it be Japanese beetles? Glad you have some spots to direct sow!!

@@urbangardeningcanada Did I ever, and an image search turned up no positive ID. The cucumber beetles not as gonzo as last year, so far. Very rich soil probably helps. It's almost all organic cow manure, chicken and horse manure, with a bit of old wood chip and yellow soil (at least two of the four kinds). The garden is probably over 5,000 sq ft. Lotsa fun. :)

Thank you for the video! Do you use a heat-tolerant lettuce?

I actually haven't gotten any seeds yet but really should. I might have Little Gem or Rouge D'hiver in my collection but otherwise might try those varieties out!

as soon as i heard you say that cucumber beetles were no longer in season by the time your cucumbers flowered i sprinted to direct sow the rest of my seeds along with some dill 🥲

Aren't cucumber beetles just the worst! Never hurts to have backup plants 🤞🏼
