- This Hot Wheels Pontiac Firebird, or "Hotbird" is part of my childhood collection. I am the only owner, and always wanted it a different color, so I finally took a leap and tore it down.

It's great giving a childhood friend a makeover.
The finished car is absolutely no gorgeous .
You did a amazing job , a true work of art.
That Trans Am looks AWESOME IN RED.The wheel and tires look great too.
My father has had a ‘79 firebird that he ordered from the factory for my entire life. He broke it down to the frame to rebuild when I was 16, and took 17 years to rebuild it. It looks better now then it did from the factory according to him. I call it his first wife. All my kids rid in it, and other than the T top, it’s cherry red with the fire chicken decals.
My first car was a 78 Trans Am. Bought it with my dad when I was 14 and spent the better part of four years learning and working on it together. We pulled that thing out of a chicken coop missing the entire front clip. Stumbled on it when I when I went with my friend to his grandparents house for a weekend. We stuffed in a 455 with a turbo 400 and a 12 bolt rear with 3.73 gears. Original snowflake wheels. Pearl black with reproduction bandit vinyls... Damn thing was gorgeous. I sold the car 8 years later when my first son was born... Did it for the right reasons but man alive did it ever hurt to see it go. Felt like a family member had died. To be honest I've never gotten over it. If I had known that Pontiac was going to go under it would have never left my care. Sorry for the long post but these cars get me strangely sentimental be it a diecast car or otherwise. I really enjoyed this one. Great job bud!
I know the feeling. I'm almost 49 and I have had over 60 cars, half of which were muscle cars or hot rods. There are a strong handful I wish I would have never let go. But, like you, I had to for the right reasons. Doesn't lesson the pain though lol

Cool! Love those wheels. If headlights are chrome,i put a thin coat of tamya clear yellow on them.

Love how it came out. I have 3 in my collection (black, brown and a gold machine) and have a chance to score a few through my kids friends. Nice to know the bird is available and is fairly simple to apply. Keep knocking out these killer builds.

Nice job. Paint looks great. Those super thin decals look so much better on this scale... but can be a pita to put on sometime.
That turned out really nice. The red pops, and I like the wheel choice. The only other thing I would add to it, is maybe put a light coat of Tamiya Smoke on the taillights, for a little contrast to the red of the body. Looks great!

I have a box of cars at my parents house that been in the attic for 30 years kinda itching to see what's up there! Your paint is looking good! Love the wheels, it turned out awsome!
On those gaming paints. I usually put a couple drops of liquid dish soap in the bottle. The soap has glycerin in it. It helps with the clumping and drying out. I have gaming paints from 20+ years ago that still work. If they get thick you add a bit of water to the jar and shake it up. You can also buy and use straight glycerin. The other bonus is that it helps break the surface tension and lets you paint smoother. I keep an old jig saw rigged with a bar clamp to shake up paint bottles. It works reasonably well.
My first new car was a 1977 Trans - Am with white leather and T-Tops. Eight Track too! Woo Hoo! So you can appreciate how much I enjoyed this video!

One of my favorite cars in hot wheels if I was you keep all your childhood cars I am 19 and I have my first ones 1950 blue chevy c10 and the green c10 . I am still collecting even though I am old, I have a kid( version still in my head)

Have two of these from childhood too, but mine are black.
Hooper I have that movie on DVD because it's not on Blu-ray yet or 4K.
The bird came out great ! This video got me looking at one that I've had for years .... probably going to have to fish it out of storage. LOL

This is a great car. I think I had 3 or 4 of them as a kid. I wish I had kept them. I ended up giving them to my younger cousins. You did a great job on the paint for this. Keep up the great work.

Nice combo of red and gold. Knew a guy who had a full sized Firebird just like it -- high school me told him I would buy it from him if he ever wanted to sell. All the money in the world 1980ish. : ) never got it.
Funny, I had a 72 chevelle in high school and my buddy had a Firebird just like this. I was always jealous even though I loved the Chevelle lol
I had a 68 cutlass convertible : ) I should have kept that car -- front end would come slightly off the ground on acceleration. It's been downhill ever since : )
I hear that! All GM's would lift the drivers side nose off the ground a tad on hard acceleration. Maybe passenger side too depending on how crappy the motor mounts were haha

Wish I would’ve held onto my old Hot Wheels as I am out of the original Redline generation. I guess that is why they’re so valuable nowadays. Great job on the Bird!

We do the same thing on real cars we put a coat of primer over it so as we sand it down we can find the low spots call the guide coat

That more than makes up the 57 debacle as you say hahaha that car is gorgeous man you did a really wonderful job with that and it's not just because I'm partial to hot Birds I have seven and original packages LOL not that this relates but in my mid-20s I had a 78 Trans Am my uncle and I decided we were going to paint it electraflame green the paint job did turn out good but it was not electraflame LMAO about halfway through one side of the car the polishing of the bare metal needless to say I didn't have the patience to do the whole body and I still down today so it was an emerald green look good thanks for the video that really is a beautiful car now

The ONLY thing that could have made this better would be a set of gold "snowflake" wheel and possibly a gold pinstripe down the side. Looks totally boss anyway though! As always great work!
