Only ever seen this 1903 tearjerker as sheet music, so good to hear it sung in true music hall style. Edith Manley is mentioned in Michael Kilgarriff's 'Sing Us One Of The Old Songs. Sadly, no bio details, but it gives two of her songs as: Silver & Gold, When Daddy Returns. No other info given.

Incredible that the quality is still there from a recording made over 120 years ago. Thanks for the upload!

Yeah these early records were a huge step in sound quality compared to the Berliners. I don’t find that many of these early records are badly recorded or sound bad, though if the condition is bad enough then it can really make these records unlistenable. Though a 1902 George Robey (which was recorded in the same day along a dozen other records on his first day) that I uploaded was utterly trashed but was still quite intelligible! My latest upload is a disc from a year later which is phenomenal in sound quality and surface noise. Thanks!

The Nicole label is quite scarce here in the US. I have several of those early 20th. Century discs.

Very much so, I did get 3 from a US based auction though at very good prices (since nobody knew what these were probably). I really like these early ones and have collected a stack of a few dozen so far.
