  • drjonathansykes.com/ -- A dorsal hump nose can be genetic or can be caused by trauma to the nose. Having a straight and aquiline profile is something most people desire, which is what causes many patients to seek rhinoplasty to remove the hump.

    What causes the hump?
If you look at your parents and one or both have a hump, you can thank them for your dorsal hump nose. You may also have fallen or bumped your nose as a young child. While you do not have any memory of it, this caused a callous formation. Once a person hits puberty, the nose grows a lot and that may be when the hump becomes apparent. Bumping your nose may also have deviated the septum, which becomes more obvious once a person reaches puberty.
    Is a dorsal hump common?
Dorsal humps are more common in some cultures and ethnicities than others. In Eastern and Northern European populations, bumps on the nose and dorsal humps are very common while in Asia, it’s not nearly as common. So whether you have a bump or not depends on a combination of where you live, your genetics and whether or not you had trauma.
Can you get rid of a dorsal hump during surgery?
There are two ways to get rid of a dorsal hump. One involves surgery and the other is minimally invasive. With surgery, we file down the bone and cut off the excess cartilage. The other way is to camouflage the bump by putting filler above and below it. This creates a straight profile, which has made injection rhinoplasties very popular. However, this method doesn’t make the nose smaller. If a patient wants the bump gone and a smaller nose, surgery is the best option.
I love doing surgery in the nose and I love injecting the nose with filler. What’s right for you? I don’t know until I see you in my office. Call for a consultation, come into my office and see me, so we can decide on the best treatment for you.

This could potentially get viewers to comment aggressively about my nose.
I always hated my dorsal hump because I felt different and insecure compared to others. I'd always dreamed of getting a rhinoplasty to remove that hindering and awful hump that people in my family made fun of generally. My parents don't have dorsal humps and I didn't even get a nose trauma in my life, I hated it so much because it didn't fit with the rest of my body. I will pray to God that I will get a better nose to modify stamina, agility, breathing, and it is not looks at all. It just didn't fit my body. Anyway, all of you are beautiful in your way! I just wanted one change on my body, cya!

I had a dorsal hump since i was 15... because as I was walking out of my last class on a Friday afternoon a bully in my class (who i thought was a friend...) threw his jacket over my head to my feet, and pulled as hard as he could making me fall face first to the ground. I woke up in a pool of my own blood and got taken to the hospital afterwards.
Ever since i see this hump on my nose that I wanna get fixed.. But yeah that is my story and after so long i wanted to vent a little bit so thanks for reading.

I got a bump on my nose when I was almost 13 because my cousin smashed it with an ultimate Frisbee. Shit hurt like hell and left permanent damage too😂.
Always bothered me but these last 3 years I swear its been almost unbearable, my self esteem and confidence are at its lowest I don't even want people to see me anymore. I'm 19 now so it's been a bit more than 6 years.
I always find it somewhat therapeutic to read similar things happen to other people because it lets me know I'm not the only one suffering with things like this. Cuz life can feel rlly unfair at times with you sometimes thinking why does this happen to noone else and why me. So thank you for sharing you just made dealing with this easier for me.

Potentially unpopular opinion: I kinda like my nose shape with a dorsal hump. I got it after falling off the stairs when I was little, and at first I hated it, but now I think it compliments my face well, and fits the style of my hair.

I do as well, but I was born with mine. It resembles an eagle’s beak and I quite like it. Many call it ugly, which is a shame, but I’d rather have stronger nose than a tiny weak one. Bigger noses helps you breathe better, too.

Since everyone talking about their stories on how they got it I’ll say mine. One day it was summer I was 12 years old at the time and I wanted to touch the bottom of the pool just to do a handstand. But instead of doing a handstand I smacked the middle of my nose and it literally kinda turned pink at first, after a few days my nose started to developed a hump which actually made me sad fr because I looked good from the front but as soon as I see the side it’s totally ruined. That’s just my story lol 😭

I didn't have a hump till 12 but I think it was around that age that my nose got broken, my mother has a straight nose, my father's nose doesn't have a hump either so what's up with me, what's the reason? I don't really have any problems with it, I don't think it looks bad either. I just want to know the cause, genetics or my injury.

That’s not true, it’s also caused by genetics, all my siblings have it, and it also has to do with what ethnicity you are. I am black mixed with Indian, I don’t have the typical African nose, I have a fat bumpy bridge with really small nostrils. I always have people coming up to me and asking how are you black but have a European nose, and I always let them no I’m mixed. Another thing would be a mentalabial fold, my parents have it both my sisters have it and i do not, and same goes for them having a hooked or dorsal hump nose, my nose is straight and i do not have a mentalabial fold and they all do. its caused by facial development more so than it is genes.
