      I mean the Death Star would have at least been an enviable long term investment... Had it not been sabotaged by it’s head engineer from the get go. Even without the planet killer laser, it was a literal world in and of itself, capable of intergalactic transit on it’s own accord, ferrying *Millions* of assets, from manpower to supplies, tech, R&D, Prisoners and high value VIP’s that held the highest need for protections, all in a planet sized structure built from the strongest materials of an interstellar empire, reinforced with the strongest shields and tractor beams, hordes of various munitions in and on the station, and a menagerie of other defense systems, ect... to the point where it’d probably be easier to fight an actual, natural planet then a Death Star. Holdo’s Hyperspace Ramming maneuver? The Death Stars sheer size and resultant durability would probably allow the station to shrug off any such blows from all but the largest of ships in the galaxy, certainly much larger then Holdo’s, or anything one would expect a struggling rebellion to muster up. Even if the rebellion “could” use such a tactic to destroy the Death Star, it’s likely have to be the largest ship they ever had, stuffed to the brim with practically their entire arsenal to boot, and if the Death Star has systems to shut down nearby Hyperspace transit, them forget it. And to top it all off, if properly stationed and maintained, the Death Star could be expected to serve and be useful for probably Millennia, maybe even forever, potentially to the point where further upgrades would allow it to engage in Trans-galactic travel, and would have been the flagship of an empire on the verge of going from “galactic” to *”universal.”*
      Look at it like this: The TIE defender would have been the better option for a newborn empire, doubtlessly. BUT if the Empire could have survived the age of serious rebellions, then the Death Star would have been a perfect endgame for an ever expanding empire. An investment like the Death Star would have literal worlds worth of higher potential beyond an equivalent fleet of upgraded star destroyers and other assets. But alas, the timing was off. Such an undertaking would have been best in at least another 30 years minimum once the last of the galaxy’s resistance had been culled.

      Problem was Sidious's philosophy. He wanted a weapon that inspired fear, causing entire systems to go into the fetal position. I agree investing the same amount of money into defenders or more ISD's would've been strategically more effective, but people would still think they had a chance.

    • @WingedDynamite
      @WingedDynamite Před 3 lety +18

      @@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire While this is true, the point of the Death Star was to use fear to keep the galaxy in line, aka The Tarkin Doctrine. Unfortunately, this backfired. I agree that the DS-1 Deep Space Mobile Battlestation would have been perfect for an Empire triumphant, but Palpatine had this puppy in the works for quite a while. His whole game was to create an endgame scenario so that he could spend his time cheating death and becoming more powerful in the Force. Thus, the Death Star was what would keep the Galaxy in place long enough so that he might transcend the need for any technological terrors. I feel that the TIE Defender was the perfect tool to counter the Rebellion's starfighter guerilla strategy. The best thing the Emperor could have done would be to continue fleetbuilding while slowly building and completing the second station, and then use it as a mobile capital, as Snoke used the Supremacy.

    Not only do all these scenes show the TIE Defender's capabilities, they also show Thrawn's excellent abilities in tactical assessment and how well he knows his enemy. He knows how capable they are, maintains realistic expectations throughout, and that allows him to anticipate their moves to counter more effectively. Honestly, if the people under his command would follow his instructions more effectively, the rebels likely wouldn't have outmaneuvered him anywhere near as often.

    • @Ionstorm2002
      @Ionstorm2002 Před rokem +9

      They couldn't have outmaneuvered him. Thrawn is just that good but unfortunately for him too many in the Empire are so inept. Heck the only reason why Thrawn is even with the Empire is because of their vast resources and power which he intends to use to benefit the Chiss. At the end of the day Thrawn's loyalty was always to his people but he worked for the Empire to ensure they wouldn't come after his people.

      To be fair, the rebels would have been wiped out, but they would have needed to sacrifice a lot of imperial control over a lot of the outer rim and other sections, since a Tie Defender is like 6 Tie Fighters in cost, or more. The initial wave of rebels would be destroyed, yes, but the empire ran the risk of letting a much, *much* larger portion of the galaxy rebel against them, and we all know how palpatine governs, control is more important.

      @@CorwinTheOneAndOnly That is why the Tie Hunter should be standard. It cost only 100K (70K for a regular tie) but has, twice the firepower / can ionize them, proton torpedos, shields, hyperdrive, and faster / more maneuverable than even the tie interceptor which is 75K in legends. They would actually save money since a lot fewer ties should be taken down with shields and such. They only produced the Tie Hunter for special forces.
      This is how I would set it up.
      - Tie version of the vulture droid which would cost around 40K. It would work exactly like how CIS vulture droid worked. Overwhelm them with numbers but don't use pilots. Plus it even had missiles, pull off maneuvers that humans can't cause of GForce, explode on command, and do suicide crashes onto the enemy ships if needed. Tie/D is stupidly expensive and I think a horrible option as I don't think it's even that good. Plus its design is ugly as f@#:)
      - Tie hunter as standard
      - Tie defender for best pilots if they want them
      - Tie bomber of course.
      -Tie Phantoms (Extra but would be really helpful)
      In Legends one of the reasons why there were no droids really used by the Empire was kinda dumb. Palpatine did not want the civilians to have PTSD from the clone wars. Not cause he was nice of course but to keep the public in their favor. Pretty dumb in my opinion. The Imperial Senate even passed bills forbidding their use on the front lines.

      Joruus C'baoth (mad Dark Jed): You never would have spoken to the Emperor that way.
      Thrawn: On the contrary. On no less than four occasions I told the Emperor I would not engage a foe I was not yet adequately prepared to defeat.

    The tie defender, in my opinion, would have been a turning point of all naval engagements going forward had it been properly developed into the imperial navy. As a RAW, someone who knows his way around the cockpit, but isn’t the best, was able to take down three trained tie, interceptor‘s, or considered elites above tie fighters. if every single fighters an imperial navy was made as a tie defender, there would be no naval engagement that the Empire was losing. The empire would’ve had the superior starfighter advantage, which would’ve severely weekend, the rivals, because rebels relied on small craft, and advanced shielding and weapons.

    I like how the Tie Defender is introduced. Up to this point, most people know the basic's of tie's. always needing to be carried in and pretty weak. Then This thing shows up. It jumps out of hyperspace on its own, and immediately rains heck and havoc on the rebellion. Its hit with a laser cannon but it does nothing, has it just returns with powerful laser barrages on the squadron. Its taken what we know about Tie fighter's, and chucked it out the window. We know a swarm of regular tie fighters is a problem, but seeing how much damage ONE of these Defender's cause. I think this also feeds into its design, being completely different from all other Tie fighters. The tie advance still only had 2 wings. This thing has 3 wings, completely different from all other variants, truly signifying its not like the rest. Its not disposable like the fighter and interceptor. Its not a prototype like the advance. This thing, is a fully tested, fully operational, product, ready to rain hell on the rebellion. Then there's the TIE Elite, which isn't even making the same sound has a TIE, it almost sounds like it isn't even a Tie anymore, its something completely different. It even launch's missile, something that LITTERALLY NO TIE HAS BEEN SEEN DOING (I say see because yes the advance does have missiles but we never see them use it. And the bomber is the bomber. not much of a threat)
