    15/15, as usual.

The only ones I fully recognized were Morning Mood from Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt and Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra (the theme from 2001), both of which I knew from childhood. I recognized Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana by tune, but not by name. But I'm once again grateful for being introduced to so much great music. Classic or not, it all sounds classic! Thank you again!

And thank you for all three comments. It’s great that you can not only solve quizzes, but also listen to new unfamiliar melodies.

13/15, one of my best ever.
I wonder if a composer like Williams will count as classical music in 50-100 years from now?

I think the case of Williams is very interesting. He writes classical music for films. Like, the Imperial March is a classical form. It's just a march. It's only not considered that way because its original context isn't concerted or as an actual march. The same goes for everything of his, as far as I know. It's only because the context of his music is the movies that his music isn't considered classical. But in his writing, he's quite a bit different from all of the other well-known film composers. Obviously everyone is different from each other, and noticeably so, but his difference is that he writes classical music, not film music. In my opinion, of course. I'm not actually sure that I can describe exactly why in his writing it is that I know it to be classical. That's something I should look into more, I suppose. I don't think his music will be looked at as classical in 50-100 years, because it's still going to be known by its context in the films he was writing for. Perhaps some people will start to hear his music in concert before they hear it in the movies, and they may consider him to be classical, but even then, there's really no way they wouldn't know that the music was from movies, even if they know nothing about the movies themselves. Very interesting topic.

So it turns out that most people know that this is the music from Star Wars, and not the music of Williams. It's the same with other films. Well, at least thanks to this quiz someone will learn about Williams))

13/15 - caught out by Nielsen (I really need to listen to him more) and the last piece.

12/15. I didn't know for the fourth one but I assumed it could only be "post 50" since there had been 3 "pre 50". The last four were tricky but everything before was way too easy.

Romantic and 20th century music is not « classic »
