Edit: Physical releasing on 22nd February USA and 3rd March UK
Oh here we go - hopefully this is useful to you guys! Do ask any questions if I missed anything! How did you find the direct? Mark
Is this for all 3 games?
Ive allways wanted to play this game, i remember playing it for 30min in a place where they rented consoles a long time ago, love it but never had the chance to buy the console, i added it to my wishlist, i hope to get it soon after i sawp my lite for a oled, wish me luck to make a deal soon, ❤
You can bet your bottom dollar that I’m buying the physical version when it releases!
I didn't get to catch when direct went live. 😅
@@conservativecarnage3783 no but its worth it its very polished I had no expectations though and its my favourite nintendo game so I jumped in without hesitation frame rates smooth and it's updated lighting and textures and modern controls best remaster nintendo have ever done
The rumors I read last year about the devs working their butts off on this remaster makes all the more sense now that it's finally come out. They stated that they really did remake every aspect of the game. All the tiles and surfaces and monsters etc. It was apparently very difficult and time consuming but they did it!
Did retro do it?
@@TyranBattenthey did!
@@TyranBattenyes, they proved Nintendo they could do prime 4 so they got it thanks to this.
@@mjefe13 where did you get that info?
@@IAmNotASandwich453 I don’t think I’m that part is confirmed. But development on Prime 4 was restarted because Retro Studios presented a good concept demo.
A lot of people think it was this
They could so easily have phoned this in and still made a fortune but they've really put a lot of effort in especially with visuals and controls
Yeah I am REALLY quite surprised they went to the effort. They must have been listening. Mark
Don't think they could've made a fortune to be honest. I think Metroid Dread is just about the only game in the series that did really well. One way or another, so glad they did this game justice. Cannot wait to dive in again after all these years😂
Nintendo
I'm so glad they didn't go the Mario 3D All-Stars route. I skipped that one but am definitely getting the physical copy of this.
@@JustFun-ho6qy the prime games sold around 3 million each at a time when that was still considered very good
This was so surprising to be honest. I love it. Now I can finally play this game in my Switch
Yeah and really nice to see how much work they have done over the OG. Mark
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but could it be an online co-op of some sort like Halo or is it just first player like zelda? I don't know anything about the metroid games amd was wondering if I could play this with my brother
@@MilkTea_Bear It's a single player game only (MP2: Echoes did have a multiplayer PVP mode but I never played it, maybe they'll include it in a remaster of that game if they do one).
They did a lot more work on this than I was expecting, and I'm surprised it's not full price.
Makes the full price on Skyward Sword HD even more baffling.
Skyward Sword didn't need more work graphically, I just played it for first time on the Switch and the game is BEAUTIFUL as it is, I appretiate they kept the same graphics but at 60 fps
Skyward Sword is Zelda, so they know it'd be successful
Prime is Metroid, so they actually had to make a good product (Not saying Metroid's bad, I'm super hyped for this game, just doesn't sell nearly as well as Zelda from what I've heard)
@@timotheninja Yes, Metroid is an underdog relative to Nintendo's other properties. Makes you wish that franchises like Pokemon wasn't so unconditionally successful in the current day so they actually have to one up themselves in terms of creativity and technicality to convince their audience to buy.
@@xiuxiu1108 As a Pokemon fan, I agree. A "remake" like Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Because they still make two almost identical versions of every game for some reason) has no right to sell almost 15 million units, especially at $60. Metroid Prime Remastered is only $40 and it looks like a brand new game that deserves to sell way more than those games.
i think cause trying win people back to metroid, with steam gotten from metroid 2 remake, and metroid dread, cause metroid other m, left alot people bad taste in their mouth for the series!
It looks far more like a remake than a remaster and it's glorious 😍
Second glorious remake this month. And next month will be the next one.
@@JustFun-ho6qy what else did i miss?
@Potijelli they might be talking about dead space remake
@@Potijelli Dead Space and RE4 next month.
@@ChromeBonfire except Dead Spacd remake was sold for 70 bucks lol
I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since I played this game when it came out. One of my all time favorites. Can’t wait to play it again. I’m impressed by how good Nintendo made it look.
This will be my 1st ever Metroid Prime game. Im excited to play it! 😋
@@Ser-Smiley I hope you enjoy it.
@@shawnandrews3973 fuehehe. Thanks! Im downloading right now. Cant wait! 😋
I was thinking the same thing, 20 year's it's a lot of time. Probably I have the feeling it's less because I enjoyed so much the GameCube and it's game's. For me the best console. It feels like it was just yesterday.
Not only is this an amazing remaster, but most importantly, it confirms that Metroid Prime 4 isn't dead.
Inb4 Prime 4 is pushed on to their next console. Kekw
that is some messed up equivalency.
@@HighLanderPonyYT I honestly think that this release all but confirms that it will be on the current Switch. Imagine releasing remasters of an entire trilogy to make people believe they'll be able to play the sequel (which has, at every point, been announced for this Switch)...only to find out that they've pushed it to the next console. That would earn a bit of bad blood, to say the least.
@@HighLanderPonyYT I honestly don't care if it takes really long for Metroid Prime 4, as long as it releases and it's perfect
@@josiahferrell5022 I think they will release MP4 on both consoles, like they did with Zelda on the GC and the Wii.
This genuinely feels like a remake to me. The upgrade on assets are very impressive. Kudos to Nintendo.
thanks!
One thing I missed originally (and you might have too), is that each control “mode” has a TON of granular options. You can access them in-game, and it includes stick sensitivity, invert look, swapping buttons, adding gyro to the dual stick config, and lots more. There really are options to cover all the minutiae you can think of.
I'm about 3 hours into it and it's a rock solid 60fps. The Switch Lite's fan hasn't even kicked yet. It's an incredible remaster. Way more than I was expecting. They've redone the textures, increased geometry detail, added volumetric light and fog and added new enhanced controls. They also seem to have added more spacial depth to the audio. It's just sound fuller to me.
It's absolutely worth the asking price for a classic that aged very well. I'm going to buy the physical release too.
The consisten 60 fps makes this a must buy for me now.
I played it for hours on my OLED and my goodness it’s great. And the power consumption is crazy low for how pretty the game is
@@bravo_10 I had to turn the brightness on my Switch Lite up to about half because the game is a little dark. I agree, the battery life is great.
I replayed the original a few months back and going into this one my jaw was pretty much always opened on how much they've improved everything. Mainly been playing it in handheld mode with the NYXI controller, so I haven't experienced the HD rumble yet but since they've got the Wii control scheme I'll probably dock my switch for the first time in months to give it a go. Metroid has been my favorite series since the NES original came out and the Prime series only deepened my fanboy nature to it. Hopefully we'll finally see something on part four one day. Also playing this really makes me want those GC inspired controllers more.
Words can’t describe how absolutely awesome Metroid Prime was when it first came out on the GameCube. This looks amazing
The only thing I miss from the original was how much your arm cannon lit up the environment, your charge beam might as well have been a flashlight, and the wave beam bathed the entire area in purple, but that's a small thing when so much has been added
The original was darker so yeah
glad it wasn't just me that noticed. stuff like that helped connect your character to the environment
That did hurt me a little bit when I noticed that wasn't there... Also the little mirrors you find around don't show your reflection anymore. But extremely small details that don't truly matter, especially in comparison to the insane overhaul they've done to everything else.
@@pugetsoundwaves Everything matters. Things add up. Stop saying "small details dont matter". It's super ignorant.
@@simonrockstream Lmfao calm down bud... We're talking about a video game remaster, nothing important.
Playing the original back in the day is one of my best gaming memories, now new players can enjoy this. It can be fun to play with friends as well, even though Metroid is ofc a single player game through and through. Soundtrack is somewhere on the list of all-time gaming greats.
Wow, you guys were quick with this video, and it’s much appreciated. Absolutely psyched that it’s more than just a basic up-res bump. Thanks again for the video, cannot wait to get this physically in 2 weeks.
I’ve been blow away so far by the remaster. It looks incredible. The art direction is on a whole other level
Out of nowhere they just shadow-dropped it. And it looks amazing, already bought it and will be playing in a couple of minutes. Thanks for the review!
Sneaky nintendo and their shadow drops. Not like im complaining. It's a great day for everyone!😊
It's cool they dropped it just after the Nintendo direct but I wouldn't say it was out of nowhere. People have been expecting the Prime remaster (the whole Trilogy actually) since Prime 4 was postponed and insiders confirmed Nintendo was working on this remaster on the side.
That direct was one of the best in a long time. Crazy that they just went ahead and dropped Metroid like they did!!
One of the best shadowdrop or a game ever. Cant wait to play this for the 1st time later myself.
I'm just floored. Just floored. Thanks for all the great news, this made my day after work
How beautiful does it look! Mark
Im surprised with the work they've done. The fact that the game is 40$ and not 60$ is very nice to see. Also the fact that is was a surprise release is really amazing!! If you haven't played the original, this is a really good way to start!!
$40, $60
They just did the old shell game. Added $10-$20 extra to the new Zelda. Dropped the price of this one accordingly. Still get the same amount of moolah out of us peons.
It looks sooooooooo good! I can't wait to get the physical version of this. Mind you, I'm someone who has experienced the original one on Dolphin at 60fps @2k resolution with keyboard and mouse controls, and even that's not stopping me from getting this version as soon as I can. I was hoping to see controls similar to what we get aiming in BOTW, which felt really natural and helped offset the naturally unprecise nature of joystick controls, and it seems like they did just that. It's a great day for Metroid fans, despite not having head a blip about Prime 4.
Yeah even with DOlphin you won’t get the improved assets and lighting. This is pretty damn impressive. Mark
Same here. I initially thought I would skip it, since on Dolphin I have HD texture mods and can play it in stereoscopic 3D. But this remaster is super quality, once I saw the improvements, I pre-ordered it immediately!
What a great video! The info about the joy cons HD rumble and control options sold me. I could play an emulated version but it’s 100% worth supporting these types of projects. Thanks guys!
Great overview of the remaster.
I remember playing the original as a kid but never got to deep into it. This looks fantastic and I’ll have to dive back in with this modern update. Great job breaking it down!
Yes, I'm super impressed with the comprehensiveness of this overview, especially considering how quickly it was put out.
If this was developed internally by Retro, I think it bodes well for the kind of visuals and performance we might be able to expect from Prime 4
I'm speculating on this, but this might have been done as a test to revive the old engine 1 for 1 and it was split into a team to remaster this game in an effort to generate assets to use and a team to work on concept art and planning Prime 4. Again, it's just speculation. I really doubt Nintendo would give Retro Prime 4 and derail them to devote all of their resources into this remaster. On the other hand, it could be that Nintendo asked Retro for the basic necessities needed to make this from Retro so Nintendo could make this internally while Retro could focus on Prime 4.
Whatever happens, this feels like a Samus Returns into Dread situation. Had to get the remake/remaster that leads to a truly gratifying experience in the new game! So, even if Prime 4 takes another couple years, I'll still be hype for it.
Not only is it finally here, but it’s freaking great! I am sure they’ll do 2 and 3 also. Kind of surprised they didn’t release the trilogy though as they would have had to have been getting that prepped in lieu of the perpetually cancelled Metroid prime 4
Had they done the whole trilogy I would have feared just a re-release or at best a low level effort remaster. Very satisfied that that it's just 1 but with great care taken.
When this was rumoured I thought I've played this I don't need to do so again but this video is making me seriously reconsider.
@@James-MexiKop even though I've never played the 2nd or 3rd entries, I much prefer a remaster done this well than a triple release with only the bare minimum done, even if we don't get the other two. I'm very happy with what I'm seeing here and how it's priced.
This is like a perfect rerelease and the artsyle and artdirection was not change. Its glorious
Dual sticks and turn on gyro in the camera options controls so well.
Was fumbling with the old Wii controls but being able to turn on gyro for aiming in the camera section is fantastic.
I found with the Wii controls setting itnto advanced sensitivity was the best way to play due to how it worked with the y axis
I’m here all day for Nintendo doing $40 remasters of their legendary back catalogue.
I want wind waker

I’ve been waiting for this to be announced forever but still pleasantly surprise on the announcement and drop today of my all time favorite game! And so far it looks amazing and you guys never fail to impress with your analysis and how quickly you posted this video 😊
This was a good video. Thank you. You answered all of my questions, and some I never considered. I look forward to the full review.
Wow, wow, wow. I'm already purchased my Switch Lite Purple online just now for this unbelievable gorgeous Switch game (yes, I'm still didn't have a Switch). Can't wait to purchase digital Metroid Prime Remastered after my Switch arriving and playing it 😍🧡
Quite astounding they simply dropped this out of nowhere! I understand that for certain titles but it’s wild to see this for such a marquee game/franchise
It definitely did not drop from nowhere. It's been leaked/rumored since quite a while now. With Prime 4 postponed many insiders confirmed Nintendo was working on this remaster on the side.
Definitely one of my favorites! Can't wait to get back into this one!
Wow, the game just came out and you guys upload right away! That’s hardworking
I’m Mr Performance review. Love making these. Mark
I literally jumped from joy. I was so happy. And it looks amazing
For sure! Happy days mate! Mark
Was going to pick this up no matter what because I am a big fan of the Metroid Prime series, but knowing they did this one proper makes me feel even better about it. Thanks for getting on this one so quickly.
This is glorious! Not even mad they didn't release the whole trilogy at once. Such great work!
Yeah incredibly good work! Mark
Wait, is it confirmed that we are, in fact, getting Prime 2 Echoes and Prime 3 Corruption?
@@DesertRainReads No confirmation, but I sure hope they plan to do so!

Love it guys !!! Can’t wait to get the game and play again!
It is VERY impressive! Mark
Watching this review while my switch downloads the game. The anticipation is excruciating! Great review!
Really appreciate you doing this review!! ❤
Not sure if you covered this, but with dual stick controll, you can also adjust it for gyro. It's definitely my favorite way to play.
They did confirm it was one of the possible ways of playing. I don't have the game yet, does it really work well?
@@AxLWake Oh most definitely. You can tweek the gyro for aiming and camera individually. I messed around with different sensitivities for a while and now it plays like a dream.
Such an awesome gaming experience this would be. 😇🥰
Lol! I didn't hesitate at all. Saw your vid, clicked play, looked on the eshop and there it was. Been playing for a bit now. Considering I never ended up finishing it back when, this might as well be a fresh AAA release. That intro section is nice. Okay, back to it! :)
Jesus guys, that was quick. Thanks for all your hard work
You’re welcome mate! Mark
I’m absolutely loving my time with the remaster so far. Looks and plays amazing. And $40 wasn’t bad. It feels modern
Blimey lads, that was quick! Can always rely on Switch Up to deliver the goods! Great video, and looking forward to playing this one for the first time!
Well that review answered all my questions! Definitely getting this one, although I'm probably going to wait a tad longer to get the physical version
What a thing to have a game like this shadow dropped. 🥳
Yeah I think Nintendo know we kind of “needed” it! Mark
No crap! I'm like, did I just not even hear about it? Or what? I've heard rumblings but that was it.
Consistent 60 fps!? Say no more fam. Im getting this soon! Very soon. 😋
You’ve got the credit for it lol
@@SwitchUpYt yessir! Already used some to get the Voucher thing. Used the voucher to get FE Engage AND Zelda TOTK ( i save $30 like this😎).

Love it. Thanks for the review! Good luck to me dealing with my anxiety whilst I wait for the physical to be released 🙃
Thanks for the review! I've got some tough decisions after this direct. So many good games, so few monies lol
As an American, I never knew that Metriod Prime had a narrator added to the European and Japanese versions of the game, I'm so used to playing the game in complete and total silence lol
Same; what he said blew my mind
@@ourfamilyaccount it is nice that we now have the option to turn the narrator on or off, this may be my personal bias but I think the game is more immersive without the narrator
You guys are the best omg a review already???
As good as I could do in the time available! Hope it helps! Mark
Thanks for the emphasis on HD rumble. I’ve always been a fan. Playing Ollie Ollie World now on the Switch and its HD rumble is outstanding.
Yeeesssshhhh! Lets's find out! 😋
Heheh oh yeah! Mark
Gameplay has a small change, the triple fire from Prime Hunters is enforced when you hold fire, which makes rapid fire easier but nerfs charge shot a bit.
Visually, the Remaster is missing suit reflection on mirrors and ice, heat haze from rapid firing the gun, and a number of cubemaps - notably on the suit, morph ball, and enemies like crystallite and baby sheegoth.
I'm most confused by the missing heat haze as that's drawn in the exact same way as the visor raindrops - which are present.
The whole however is gorgeous! I keep being blown away by the new enemy models and environments, expertly lit as well.
Hm, also not a fan of the change to the scan icons and door shields but that's like... subjective, man.
A new piece of eye candy in the remaster is shown off very early on, the structural layer of the helmet visor is now visible in the right light.
Man this is gorgeous... and nice review! Seeing this really makes me think this is a test bed for Metroid 4.. get the new engine tech working with an established game and then further refine it for whenever Metroid 4 is released. I can't believe how good this looks.. I recently played this on the Gamecube but I'm very tempted to buy and play through it again! Great job Retro.
You can use gyro in the modern control mode it's just under a sub menu if you scroll down it will let you toggle it. In case anybody wants to use it.
One question I have is whether they made the effort to support Gamecube controller via the adapter, like they did with Super Mario Sunshine. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means; it would just be nice to be able to play exactly like the Gamecube.
Other than that it looks amazing!
They did!
I’m having a great time with it. The game is beautiful and runs great. Very happy with it
Thanks for the review this is one I'm very curious about having missed nintendo consoles between the 64 and the switch. I delved somewhat into the hand helds at that point
Ah, the GameCube was lovely.

It’s seriously impressive! Mark
Gosh you’re quick with this.
I couldn’t resist downloading it straight away, even though I was saving for TOTK. I have only played the SNES Metroid as a kid. So far, I’m really enjoying it. Like you showed, it’s really smooth and so atmospheric.
I can’t believe they dropped this after the direct - what a nice surprise.
As for the direct: my son will love the Kirby game, and I am already downloading the demo of Sea of Stars to see if it hits that Chrono Trigger itch.
I feel you, have the urge to buy the zelda dlc since the price dropped, but i said to myself im not going to touch my savings before i can get a oled switch, but this video is making me doubt, they made a good game a great game. But no no, resist i must... 🥲

I never played this back in the day. Now's my chance.
Yeah this is bloody great! Mark
Didn't catch the Direct today so was surprised to see this. Bummer it's not a trilogy and disappointed to see the price but it could be worse.
I am actually kind of glad it isn’t because this is a proper remaster. Mark
Why wouldn't a trilogy be a proper remaster? I'm sensing some logical fallacies.
@@SwitchUpYt I didn't think of that. I am so used to Nintendo half assing this stuff like that Mario collection.
2 minutes into this video I was screaming at my phone as I moped the kitchen floor " How much is this going to cost me and is it going to have a physical release!" As soon as I can I will be picking this up for my switch. My favourite Metroid by far. The improvements made are there to see! I would have been happy for a decent remaster but they have gone above and beyond by the looks of things.
Genuinely my fave game of all time. I haven't been able to play it since 2011, owing to selling my Wii and not being able to emulate. Didn't think I'd be playing it today!
Also, damn... you guys work FAST!
I've said this all over the place but I'm so annoyed right now i already will have bought 4 games this month Hi Fi Rush, Like A Dragon Ishin, Hogwarts Legacy and Theatrhythm Final Bar Line and now Nintendo had to go and add that bloody physical for Metroid Prime Remaster to the list, Goddammit!
Ah it does have a physical? I will have to add an update to the top post! Mark

F-Zero GX needs to be next! With online, of course.
Great Stuff,as always!
It's rare that you play an older game and it's better than you remember - especially one of this calibre. My hopes were high in terms of quality and nostalgia and honestly, it absolutely blew me away. In all aspects, this is better than a vast amount of Nintendo Switch games that are being released today and it's ridiculous to think that this is a 21 year old game. Brings back so many memories and is an absolute joy to play through.
Forgot to mention you can turn on gyro assisted aiming for the "dual stick" configuration for the controls. Just start the game and pause mid game, there you can go to options>controls and enable gyro aiming while still using "dual stick" mode, it makes Metroid prime play like any other recent fps with gyro aiming and its my preferred way to play BY FAR.
My all-time favourite game. Got it on release day on the Game Cube. So happy to see what they've done here. Going to wait for the physical release next month before I dive in again.
One of my favorite games of all time. I will NEVER forget my first playthrough. And the Remaster runs amazingly well so far. For those playing for the first time - enjoy it! It is a masterpiece
I got pokemon violet for Christmas but hadn't gotten to it yet so really excited to hear another performance patch is on the way!
Lovin it! You guys are the best!! 💜
Oh my. A lot of nostalgia with this one. I'm so glad they've done such a wonderful job on it. To the wishlist!
Just bought those joycons, appreciate the review, I’m going to wait on the physical because this easily a collectors piece for my great great grandchildren streaming through the cloud lol
Definitely grabbing this one I can get the physical. Looks awesome!
CANNOT WAIT for Feb 22nd!!! Have to get the physical, but oh boy am I excited!!
It’s coming physically on Feb. 22. I’m gonna preorder, but I had to get it today! So, I have it digitally right now. When it drops, I think I’ll keep the physical copy sealed.
This game was a gorgeous gem upon its GameCube release. At the time, it was considered one of the most gorgeous games ever released. Not much has changed in that regard. It is stunning on the Switch. Just as reviewed, it is silky smooth at 60 fps and that appears to be solid throughout all areas, no matter the on screen action.
I love the control options. It’s nice that Nintendo made the effort here to make a great 1st person game with amazing controls. Hopefully, this will inspire them to do the same with other recent offerings (I’m looking at YOU, Goldeneye).
The music sounds largely unchanged, but in a higher quality. This is great news as the soundtrack was incredible to begin with. It truly adds to that ominous lonely feel of the game.
This is a true remaster done right. I can’t speak highly enough about it. For us, in the USA, it’s $39.99 for both digital and physical. That means I will have paid $80.00+ dollars after taxes.
Do you hear me complaining?
Really can't wait to play this. Was a total surprise in the best way!
I picked up the physical copy Friday 3th of March and really love the dual-stick control option. It makes the game so much more fluently for me and ups the phasing.
Perfect video! Thank you!
Awsome video mate!
Cheers mate! Mark
Thanks as always for getting such a thorough video out at lightning pace guys - much appreciated, and great to see how good this remaster looks!
Does anyone know the status of the other two games, are they also being remade? I've seen conflicting info from different sites so wanted to see if anyone knows Nintendo's official line on things
So glad I decided to preorder the physical for this. Every review I've seen has been stellar.
Mr. Walkers Ready Salted, you've spent my money once again and I can only thank you for it. Can't wait for more coverage of the Nintendo Direct releases :) Keep up the great quality, thorough videos.
Amazing video. Thanks so much
