    Ken, It has been a while since I visited your site. I have moved, built a new shop (1,000sq ft, old shop 400sq ft) and just started working again. I have built several Toys & Joys models (Train engine, Caboose, Pullman car and Road grader), and just started on building the log truck. I have had COVID for the past 10 days, and only been able to spend time watching my favorite CZcamsrs, you being one. Watched all the builds this morning, you did a great job as always! I picked up several pointers that will help me with the build, even though the log truck is a somewhat different model. I finish parts of my build as I go with raddle can spray lacquer and then assemble. Thank you for taking the many hours to film the build of the truck, I really appreciate the time it took for you put it together even if it was four years ago. I hope your health is holding so you are still able to do such amazing work!

      Sorry to hear about your COVID Mike. I hope that the symptoms aren't too severe and that you are back on your feet and working away in your new shop in no time. 1000 square feet sounds amazing. Enjoy. Be sure to send along pics of your project when you are done. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words.

    Sir. You are a very good woodworker. Since I’m in a wheelchair I have always steered away from making t&j plans because they don’t guide you in the process and the parts are so small I am worried about my fingers. I need all of them more than most. I hand injury for me is a problem. But you have shown some methods that I think I can use. Unfortunately you use the table saw a lot. For me my powermatic cabinet saw the top is a little bellow chest height and a little scary to use. Anyway your attention to details and the pallets and blocks show your love for building these. Have you done videos on all your toy projects. I would love to see them. Thanks for doing the shows. May God bless you and keep you safe. Danny

      I have not done videos for all of them Danny. I hope that one day you will give one of these a try. Although I do work heavily on the table saw, there is always an alternative method to make the pieces. Thanks for tuning in.

    I made it all the way through. Not an endurance thing at all. Thank you so much. I built a ten drawer dresser side tables head and foot board that took me 300 plus man hours. It was a wedding gift for my oldest daughter. I presented it to them on their tenth wedding anniversary hence my amazement and appreciation for anyone who is able to do a complex build in less than a few months or weeks as a weekend when the wife lets me wood worker.

Seeing the completed truck like you presented at theend had great shock effect. A great way to start my morning watching your great build. Great video Ken and a great series also. Let me mention something to you. I don't think it matters one bit in model building but in real life most states require marker lights on the top and bottom of both pieces plus rear tail lights and break lights. I don't know about Canada, I never got pulled over when I went up there. Anddddddddd there you have it, a blue bungie cord and an orange what-chu-ma-call it with a blue ball hanging down from the ceiling. Man I love it, viewing your shop. I never know what I'll see. Please don't be offended. I saw more but I'll save that 'till later.

    I loved this series!
    I love the golf tee idea!👍
    I've only got a couple of models that I've done the first was a 31 roadster a year ago. And then I have 3 VW beetles that I just finished now I have 3 more of the 31 roadsters that I'm currently working on. The first roadster I did was from pine and alder because I already had the materials for it. The rest of my builds are of pine and I painted each one although I don't intend on painting everything I build because as we all know, it takes away from the wooden art of the project. My question is say for instance this series of videos on this truck and trailer how would I go about figuring for different species of materials? The only stock I have is pine, alder and just a small stock of cedar. I know that most guys keep an assortment of different lumber but I am curious on how I'd go about figuring the amount? I dont have anything like a joiner or planer so for now I'd have to purchase already milled. At todays lumber prices pallet wood is a good source and is fine but we all know that in order to get anything useable out of it you'd have to remove the nails and work/cut around the ugly! And you also take a chance of saw blade and other tool damage as well. I'm just curious on how most or typical wood modelers go about thier wood selection and purchases?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Před 2 lety +1

      I have a shop that is fully stocked with walnut, maple, poplar, mahogany and cherry so I always have plenty to choose from. Because of the cost of lumber, for years I have made all of my projects from 8/4 rough cut stock. I have the band saw and the thickness planer and jointer to mill anything down to the thickness that I like. I've never had to calculate how much lumber would be sufficient to make a model so I am not even sure what to tell you as far as that goes. My suggestion would be to purchase one board of a light coloured species and one board of a darker coloured species and only buy more when you can see it running out. If you purchase 3/4" thick stock, you can pretty much cut (or laminate) whatever you need to get the thicknesses required. Sorry I can't help more on this. I've never really thought about calculating the board feed required. Glad to hear that you liked the series.

As for the music during the picture show of the trailer and load....yes, that was me playing one of my many ukuleles. I hope you liked it. I was a little unsure about using my own playing during one of my shows but I thought "why not? It's my show so why shouldn't I play my music on it?". Anyway, I may or may not play on futures shows. The tie down straps were made from yellow ribbon that I bought at a local sewing supply store. The strap hooks were just made from a light gauge wire. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the series Robert. I hope you enjoyed it.
