    RTD said he specifically wanted this Doctor to be emotional, and Ncuti's ability to turn on the tears so well is one of the things that really clinched it.

    • @joshuajoshua2732
      @joshuajoshua2732 Před 2 měsíci

      Which is what i think is letting his Doctor down he's an old relic alien he's suppose to be the opposite of emotions and beyond all that I don't think RTD understands the character anymore if you give the Doctor emotions and make him like everyone else it just makes his character boring and takes away what made the Doctor interesting in the first place the hero, the mystery and just how alien and out of this world he is I'm not saying he shouldn't have emotions but they are getting really overboard with it I think because this is a science fiction show this is not a soap opera.

    • @SeeJay81
      @SeeJay81 Před 2 měsíci +16

      @@joshuajoshua2732 but the doctor has always been emotional, it's just that they channel different emotions in each regeneration. This doctor is the after effect of a "therapized" doctor, meaning he's in touch with his emotions. Even the classic doctors changed personalities and showcased different emotions to fit in the storyline. It's not like the doctor hasn't cried before, it's just the version of him is more in tune with that. Capaldi was angrier and grumpier, McCoy was much more humorous, smith was very compassionate.

      @@joshuajoshua2732 why do you all think being old somehow means he can't be emotional? Or that a show being SciFi somehow precludes it being emotional?

      @charg1nmalaz0r51 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Theres being emotional and there is whatever ncuti is portraying .When other doctors broke down it was rare and impactful because of it. Ncuti seems to break down every single episode in this and its stopped tugging on your heart strings and makes you want to shake him out of it and tell him to act like the doctor and save someone. Outside of killing the goblins in the curch of ruby road this guy has not once used his intelligence, with and doctorness to save the day. Not once, its getting tiresome to watch him keep failing, having other people bail him out while hes sat there crying.

      What the fuck are you on about? He solved the space babies problem, no diff, with wit and aplomb. He gave a speech to an AI that was so good it inspired the sliver of consciousness in there to destroy a rival AI. He entirely worked out how to beat Maestro, just wasn't (admittedly) enough of a musical genius to pull it off himself. The next two episodes were Doctor lite, and he wasn't meant to be the "hero". And in this one, a new, incredible character was introduced, who challenged The Doctor and revitalized the show in general. We even got a moment of darkness, with the "that's a long time to suffer" line, it was so good! Tell me you just hate gay people without telling me you hate gay people.

    The dance scene between the Doctor and Rogue is beautifully done - especially that lighting shift halfway through that emphasises them and their emotions. And I really like the whole ‘love at first sight’ aspect of the story too - it feels very much in keeping with both Regency romances and the whole Bridgerton vibe.
    And boasting rights for me: my old friend and former flatmate Ben Chessell directed this episode. :)

    Lol If it has been Jack Harkness, we definitely know where that gun would’ve been stored.
    River would have 100% welcomed Rogue. I definitely agree that River & The Doctor didn’t have the best chemistry, and that it mainly felt one-sided, but I think that was the point.
    I loved The Doctor & Rogue’s chemistry in this ep. Doctor fell hard & fast, almost just as quickly as he chooses companions. Hopefully we get to see Rogue in future episodes. I can imagine them rescuing Rogue years & years into the future when he’s already old, and that would be a natural way for the relationship to end (not that the Doctor cares about age).

    I'd say the Doctor's sexuality is fluid. Just like his personality changes from one regeneration to another, it would make sense that his sexuality does as well. In "Wild Blue Yonder" Tenant's doctor looked surprised that he really thought Isaac Newton was hot - not in a bad way, just an "I wasn't expecting that twist" sort of way. In my headcannon, 10 was straight, 15 is gay, and 14, being a mix of both, is bi/pan. I think it's more interesting to have his sexuality change when he regenerates than to have it always bi/pan.

    It's so weird that series 14 of _Doctor Who_ and season 4 of _Bridgerton_ and season 2 of _Interview with the Vampire_ are all coming out at the same time. And all three shows are connected in _that dance scene._
    Yeah, and they had Queen Charlotte in _Space Babies._ And Rege-Jean Page was in _Dungeons & Dragons,_ but I digress.
    I was thinking Millie and Ncuti should do a cameo on _Bridgerton._ Or Freema Agyeman and David Tennant, maybe. It would be cute.
    Edit: Never mind. You talked about it: -"Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood" is where the Doctor hides and later punishes.- Mme. de Pompadour was the historical figure at the center of "The Girl in the Fireplace."

    I feel like this is the way I prefer representation to be done. Just make it have a purpose and importance because even with Captain Jack - he was just openly himself and it wasn't about saying: "Hey, look! It's an LGBTQ+ person. Suck it!" and it was so natural and that's why everyone loved him for just being himself, unapologetically.
    Everyone loved Rogue because it isn't just some statement or shouting about anything - he is loved for his character and the connection he developed with the Doctor.
    I would have even loved if they made an entire story about how small changes can cause ripples and change history - e.g. how Isaac Newton was changed to a POC and, maybe an entire story about famous figures changing in many ways. They did the same to say how the Toymaker was able to get into their universe and they showed how gravity became "mavity" but I really wanted that to all become its own big thing and not just throwaway things or doing them just to tick boxes.
    Why not give it some reasoning, importance and make it very Doctor Who.

    Second time the doctor has almost consigned his companion to doom cos he couldn’t tell them apart from a shapeshifter since November. Donna and Ruby should be very insulted lol
    I also really hate how RTD does arcs. He doesn't seem to know what that word means and just sprinkles reciting breadcrumbs foreshadowing whatever he has planed for the finale and does not actually build up to it. Season 2 was the worst with someone once an ep sliding into frame to utter the word torchwood before peacing out.
    The Susan’s twist stuff has not really affected anything, our main character are now minor level aware it’s going on, the tardis keeps making weird noises but the doctor isn’t caring, the Ruby stuff has had focus but it’s not like the doctor is investigating it or anything it just keeps repeating in the hopes that a later story might do something with it. I had hoped he’d have learnt long form story telling by watching the Moffat seasons but sadly seems he did not.

    My least favourite episode so far. I liked the flirty chemistry between Rogue and the Doctor, but the romance was rushed and seemed contrived. I love a good gay romance, but to go from strangers to I'll sacrifice my life for you, in a matter of a few hours, I don't buy it. The whole Bridgerton setting, yawn, just seems to be pandering to bored housewives who want to romanticise England in the 1800's. And lets face it in that time and that place, the Doctor would have had to face more racism then he did in Dot and Bubble.

      I mean, it's established in 1963 that he's a grandfather, so he's had children and The Doctor has repeatedly talked about having had a family since 2005 and in the classic series (last reference was, I think, in S26's The Curse of Fenric). Then he gets engaged (albeit accidentally) to a woman he is flirting with in the 1964 story The Aztecs and there is genuine affection. So it's very much a later read for The Doctor to be ace or aro, but I do think it's a valid if that's your headcannon - especially given the "no touching the young female companions" rule the Producer had in the 80s.
      My headcannon is that their attraction/connection can change with each regeneration, plus being likely to outlive their partners making The Doctor cautious of long-term commitment.
      Tennant as 10th was definitely not ace/aro given the obviously romantic if not sexual relationship with Rose and, well, the whole Madame du Pompador and Queen Elizabeth of it all. Absolutely everyone Moffat writes is grotesquely horny, so Matt Smith's 11 was explicitly sharing nights with River (according to her) or at least kissing (according to him). Capaldi definitely has a more mature connection with River and they spend the night - 24 years - on Darillium, before she goes to meet her death in The Library.

      you guys realize that ace people can still have relationships and even have sex right?? Being ace does not mean not having sexual relationships, for some that is the case but for a lot of people it is also a spectrum! There are ace people who do have sexual relationships!
