Pasi Sahlberg: Finland, Education, and Global Reform

He's been called the guru of Finnish education, the miracle worker of the public education system that is the envy of the world, with students consistently ranked at the top across all age ranges. Pasi Sahlberg is director general of the Center for International Mobility and Cooperation in Finland's Ministry of Education and the author of the award-winning book Finnish Lessons: What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland? Sahlberg and his colleagues have revolutionized education in their country by emphasizing children's well-being, happiness, and health; by providing universal access to safe, high-quality schools for all, regardless of income level, family background, geography, or perceived ability; and by investing intensely in the training and ongoing support of teachers.
