@barbatosrex - Jak na to + styl
17:19 that looks like a factory plated piece. Absolutely impressive.
This may be the solution for my resin kit chrome needs...bumpers, wheelcovers, etc. The more I see of this stuff, the more I like it.
Amazing. That didn’t go anything like I expected
Definitely the best results I've seen out of this stuff so far. Thanks!
What a fantastic review, I've been looking for a mirror chrome to do my 40k necron army, you just solved my search. Thank you keep up the great videos
Extremely valuable demonstration. Thank you for all your efforts!
You're welcome Johnny 👍
Best chrome I've ever seen out of a can👌
I been on the search ...GREAT VID . thanks . I was sold on revell and just watched for fun. Great workspace/shop. very cool
Mannnnnn that looks fantastic!! Thank you for the demonstration, will be ordering one right now 😃
For that price I’d probably decant it. I wouldn’t want to waste the rest on the overspray. You’d get a lot more from it too than the similarly priced tiny bottle of Gaia chrome.
I’d like to see Robert do a video decanting this and shooting it through an airbrush but I’m not a Patreon member. Unfortunately I’m unemployed atm.
@@johnblack9885 he made a post that said he decanted it and it sprayed just as nice
@@Genadarr great to hear. Hope to see this in a video.
I just got it before Christmas and will be sanding or stripping the chrome off the plastic water and ice dispensers on refrigerator Jenn air already replaced with new and I’ll decant and airbrush after first using primer then black gloss paint then the Revell
I think this is the 1st video of yours I clicked on that's not 2+ years old! Super impressed with this product. I'll be sharing this video in my Makers groups. Lots of happy Mando cosplayers I'm sure!
Has it been 2 years? Wow 😆
Just subscribed, love the videos , great info…
I might have to repaint the inside of my Jeep tail lights with this. I used SpaxStix and it was good, but your vids have shown me were I went wrong.
Wow, that looks great and seems like you can handle it without the color coming off on your fingers. I wish they make a great protector spray so you can spray the chrome to protect it for a very long time without it dulling out its shininess of it.
Here in Germany you can get it from €14,99 to 16,99 per 150ml can.
Wow looks amazing !!
A very educational video, I guess that old saying is true, you get what you pay for. For me as with other comments I would most likely use this for aftermarket resin wheels. Thank you!
Can't wait to see the results of the candy test
Me 2
Nice looking, you give it a thumbs up, I have to get some!!!
No issues with the durability of the AK Super Chrome. Painted a set of wheels, let them sit over night, and they were good to go the next day. They took normal handling like a champ.
It hand paints pretty good as well.
The Revell looks like it is some really good stuff, but the cost is an issue. Thanks for sharing.
*Already intently looking at the results*
Barbatos: "look at it. Would you just look at it? Just LOOK at that!"
I can't look anymore! I'm already looking as much as I can!
But did you look at it? 😉
Perfect! Thanks
That works good, I had the same results with Spazstix too, but I was able to buff it lightly with a cotton swab and get a little more shine.
Kudos to those who are able to paint those small Warhammer 40K figures.
Lots or dry brushing and one of those desk lights with the magnifier glass in the middle..... I have 5 Armies done. I STILL hate painting skin tones and fabrics.
Started with 1/35 then went to 1/48 then Warhammer 40k all three were about the same.
They're easier than you think, especially if you airbrush them first
I like to watch videos of people doing it.
It's quite relaxing
I've been painting Warhammer for years, but just getting into Gunpla. I'm worried about how much more visible everything is going to be a the larger scale.
Good looking Chrome for sure.
Looks great, just found some online for $28.99 a can. Had to grab 2. I'm excited to try it out.
Wow, you found some. Pretty rare all of a sudden. Where did you find it?
The best "chrome" look you can get without a vacuum deposition chamber (same method used by model manufacturers), is silver nitrate. It's a two-stage process where you spray the part with silver nitrate "primer", then hit it with activator, then rinse with distilled water.
Also a pain in the butt to figure out the right amount to tint the top coat to ensure it stays that chrome shade we ask love. At least for me it was
Hey Robert,my brand new Badger Patriot 105 gravity feed dual action airbrush just came in the mail.I'm now just waiting on the No Name Tooty aircompressor with 3L air tank to come in through the mail.
Hey Barbatos ! Ah man you’re going to make me pay that shipping cost with this video lol excellent chrome !! Question: you’ve shown us the SMS Pearls in a recent video. Plan to do a video on those soon?? I have a huge problem with those pearls. The coverage stinks and they’re difficult to spray with my .5 procon. When I thin them the coverage is worse! I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong.. would love to see that video soon!
I'll have to keep the Revell Chrome in mind when I build my Bandai Captain Phasma kit.
I used Tamiya Black and Spaz Stix and had mixed results. Some pieces got a good chrome finish and some came out hazy. I found that as long as the bare plastic was glossy (RG Sinanju in my case), it'll come out chrome. I had to polish the hazy parts.
barbatos..i am the one who wanted yall to try it..have yall thought about do-canting it?? save a lot of paint this way..looks great..thanks ron
Excellent video.
Thanks Thad
Thats some nice chrome it looks like its worth the cost. For car models it would probably last a long time since you don't generally chrome too many parts and they tend to be small.
I bet you could paint up some awesome '80s cylons with that stuff!😀
So I tested it today and I can conclude that it's the exact same stuff as Molotow. It looks the same and it smells the same. This can is perfect for fast and hassle free apliance and it costs pretty much the same as a Molotow refill bottle although I suspect the latter will cover more but has the downside that if you don't use it within 6 to 10 months time it will lose it's magic.
Very good information to know. Thanks.
I am *incredibly* interested in how the Revell takes to candy colors. That 'dipped' chrome look is exactly what I've been looking for when it comes to replicating the plated look for kits like the Phenex. If you get a chance to try Sunin7's acrylic gloss over Revell's chrome, I've had good luck with it not harming the chrome look too much.
I wanted to try this, but now afraid due to how it took the clear coat reaction.
This is exactly what I'm looking up. I'm trying to find the best chrome paint I can candy over
Thanks for reviewing this🙏 I've been thinking about getting one myself.
Can I ask what the Tamiya primer is?
I ordered the Revell from Germany 2 months ago and it is finally out for delivery today.
Good things come to those who wait, but 2 months is a bit much 😉
You are the Guru of Chrome my friend. I had the same issue with the Spaz black backer. It doesn't produce a shine at all and is lousy paint to be quite honest. The Revel is amazing, too bad it doesn't have any durability, it would be the Holy Grail if you could clear it.
The revell paint was much better than I expected, perhaps the best I've seen. Although it should be good at that price range
If only their models were as good as this paint 😊
@@VNAV_PTH I think Revell make some really good models. What is the issue with them?
@Fido Montoya Just an example from my last build, the 1/48 scale F/A-18E: Details not accurate to the real aircraft, general fit and design were not up the likes of Tamiya for instance. Required a lot of sanding and filling with subsequent rescribing of details lost in that process. Shallow and unsharp panel lines and rivets, making it very difficult for the wash to sink in and stay where it was supposed to stay while removing the excess wash. There are no decals for missiles and bombs, and in my opinion, too light colors on some of the decals provided. Instructions on how parts on, for instance, the landing gear, were supposed to go on lacked in detail, and mounting points in the landing gear bay were very uncertain and required some educated guesswork to be fitted.
@Fido Montoya it's a little bit hit and miss with Revell. Some are decent, but most are trash. Lots of fitting issues.
68 Charger R/T model is horrible fitment.@@xanderguldie
Great vid. What do you think about decanting it (Revell), then using an airbrush??
I will try that for sure
Blimey! That's amazing.
In any case, it seems almost perfect... What about clear coat has it been tested?
Great tutorial. No wonder it's $35. Best chrome spray paint I've seen. Most just leave a silvery finish. This looks amazing.
Just another rebranded product, nothing new!
@@BigAndTall666 Rebranded from what? Please spill the beans.
All I say is WOW!
When are you reviewing gaia notes? We NEED it!
Thank you for sharing. I am also a model painter❤❤❤
Great information! I was wondering however-I'm a cosplayer, and was wondering how the Revell would work on a peice of EVA foam? Normally for something like the Mandalorian helmets, we do a couple of layers of Plastidip, followed by gloss black spray and then either "silver" spray paint or graphite powder. Neither works particularly well as a chrome. Would you be able to do a test for that? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
That warhammer figure is a space marine. Really cool weapons in that universe.
Revell's chrome looks amazing, but I was wondering if there was another option that was also nice but could take some clear varnish for extra durability
Barbatos Rex two requests can you show some other chromes sprays?
Would you demonstrate mandalorian beskar armor painting techniques?
Can I ask what the dry time is I can't really find anything listed online on their product Paige thank you so much for your great videos.
Thanks!
You're welcome my friend. You guys are the best out there
Testors metalizer sealer doesn't change metallica finish & yes its defunct but i bought a 100 bottle lot to last me till next century!😁
Jman
Came here from another page that recommended this as the best of the best, and it is from what I see. Why is there no alternative? Obviously the paint cartels are holding out. You would think China would have something comparable on the market by now. Waiting over a month to get a small can of paint? I want this for painting real world items, not models.
Have you tried applying the Alclad Aqua Gloss over the Revell Chrom? Or any other type of gloss over the Revell.
Thanks
I'm going to have to get a can or two for for the bumpers on my car kits.
I agree! I have had 2 models where the chrome rubbed off the bumper pieces.
Do you think its better than the airbrushing options? What about decanting it? Worth it or use an airbrush ready product. (Favorite Ive used is the Dspiae)
But this Seems to be a pretty good option! I was worried about it being durable enough for assembly handling and looks like it would.
I’d say this is more of a convenient option, especially for those who aren’t into airbrushing yet. It does a really good job of making a mirror-like finish at the convenience of a rattle can. The convenience of not setting up for airbrushing is what adds to the price I would say.
How about a Update on the New Robot Kai Waterfall Spray Booth ? ? ? “Should I buy it or not” ???
Have you tried to see if works to add transparent inks after the Revell chrome? Also I saw you said do not add anything else after Revel chrome but what about 2K gloss, will be the same as gloss used for this video? Thanks
Could you try micro gloss over the Revell chrome spray paint ?
Would the aqua gloss clear coat work ok? That seemed to not react with most chromes
Can’t wait to see if you can put a candy coating on it
I was wondering about making my black roto tom drum frames chrome. I have a feeling it would take a can for each drum but if the results are great it would be worth it.
wow that looks great where can you get it at thank you for this video
Links to buy are in the description but it looks like it's getting sold out everywhere
So should I use a clear coat for this? Or would it make it dull?
Do you ever put 2 coats of Revell Chrome on? If so how long do you wait between coats?
Hi, I just recently got back into scale model kit building from over 25 years. I ran across one of your videos weeks ago, and I am hooked. I actually purchased the Avanti airbrush kit from Harbor Freight based on your review. I am putting together the Revell 1/72 scale Razor Crest. I'm new to airbrushing, so I would like your opinion on the best paint brand to use, as well as easy application and economical. Thanks so much
Welcome back to the hobby. I would go with either Tamiya or Mr. Color paints. Be sure to get Mr Color Leveling Thinner, it's the best and works for either of these paints.
@@barbatosrex9473 Thanks so much for the quick response. I'm actually viewing one of your videos as I text. Always appreciate your reviews and tutorials.
@Barbatos Rex Would you recommend applying the Badger Stynylrez 402 as a primer, then use the Tamiya paints on top? I'm not sure if there would be issues in mixing water based primer with solvent based paint? Thanks
@@genejornales8980 you can spray most paints on top of Stynylrez. It's one of the features listed by Badger
Revell Chrome is great!!!!
Random question but I also build rc cars and I wanna paint true flames but as you know you paint lexan bodies on the inside and I don't know how to reverse process any advice sir
Are we ever going to see a decanting video of this?
Can you spray color finish on top of Revell to get a color chrome?
you're gonna make me start buying alot of different paint brands....lol
Great video, How easy does the revell chrome scratch off
It's not too durable but if you're using it for a static display then it's hard to beat
Can u try it on some aluminum and steel parts if u have any i just want to see some results cause on plastic looks kool
Hey bro I just love your video's. I have a question. Since you have been trying out all kinds of chrome paints what is the best to use on RC car wheels to give that shiny chrome look? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Also I tried some of your links and they all dont ship to the US for the levell paint. I also hear that no matter the days of it drying it will smudge if touching. Is this true? Thanks again ans keep up the great content! 👍
RC wheels is tricky. They will take a beating. I recommend my Mecha Empire Polished Alloy paint. It holds up better than most. It's available at Gundam Pros. I did a video on it too
@barbatosrex9473 Thanks. I will check out the video and product even tho I don't bash my cars, maybe casual runs here and there. One last question. What's the best chrome marker pen for touch-ups? There are so many out there, and I purchased the liquid chrome pen from Amazon, but I wasn't impressed with the outcome. Thanks again for your video's man they are the best out here, hands down!
@@bigwhop136 go with a Molotow or a Gundam Marker GX. The new Gundam Chrome markers are good
Got a couple cans for a project. I can say it is 100% worth it.
Edit: I retract my statement. This paint needs at least one month for it to cure...you absolutely cannot touch it. If you do, the chrome "luster" will fade.
This stuff is incredible looking for sure
@@barbatosrex9473 well I had to redo my project. Left it alone overnight at least 15 hours and it was still wet! Wtf. What is the cure time? Doesn't say anywhere
@@xpectz dont wanna call you a liar but you are the only one ever who stated this.
Its impossible to be still wet after 15 hours unless you painted several layers without drying in between and the roomtemperature is way too low.
even in the video he tried to scratch the paint with his fingeres after one night of drying and it didnt do shit to the paint. Its clearly a bad can or usererror on your side.
I would like to see tape on chromes and left for a few hours before it's removed. Even overnight maybe. Thanks for all your videos. They are very helpful.
I can do that but I will have to spray another spoon with primer on it as I know just the bare plastic under it isn't going to pass the tape test
@@barbatosrex9473
Maybe not the "look " test either. Only when you have the time, no rush.
Is it heatresistant? I want to use this on my hub of my brake rotors which are rusty.
I’ve been really happy airbrushing Molotow chrome...not sure if I want to spend $35 to see if this is as good or better. Definitely close.
Screw rechroming my cars bumpers, Im hitting them with 1000 grit and two cans of this stuff!
Does the revel chrom need a gloss black surface? Or can a matt black surface work?
Any surface
What primer would you need to use this chrome spray? Please let me know...!
Do you think I can use the Revell Chrome Spray to paint 4 pieces of plastic silver trim on the side skirt of my car and have the chrome look? How durable is the paint over rainy day and winter salty road?
Sorry my friend, it wouldn't last a day. Very delicate, made only for indoor models
Thanks again for a great product video. Personally, I don't think any hobby paint is worth $40. I'm fine with Spaz Stix, and Vallejo Chrome (77.707), most of which I use for mufflers, tail pipes or a rearview mirror (if I lose or ruin the "mirror sticker.")
Looking to see when you but an other color over it ?
Have you tried Alclad aqua gloss on the Revell chrome? Literally can't find anyone who has...
Everything I tried on Revell didn't work but it will test it out. In my latest video I tested craft store clear on chrome and it worked so maybe that one will
@@barbatosrex9473 I just saw it. Deco Art DuraClear gloss. When you blended it with distilled water and alcohol it sort of looks like aqua gloss. Interesting! What paint was your test chrome in the video?
I am actually going to test it too aqua gloss on revell. What airbrush configuration do you recommend? I was planning on doing 3mm needle, 10 psi, and go light.
Have you found any clear coat the does not affect Revell ?
I haven't yet, it a wish list item for sure. But it looks like it stands alone
Face reveal on the chrome spoon haha
I have a 1950's Porsche 356A hubcap I'm removing rust from using evapo rust. The original chrome plate now 85% rust is gone is like a mirror. I'm thinking of resorting to painting it and the revel is acrilic. Painting chrome is uncharted waters for me and I'm wanting to epoxy clear coat it and want to know your opinion on paint and coatings? It be a display peice and even a $40 can is cheaper than having a wall hanger replated.
This is perfect for a display. One of the best chromes I've tested
have you tried adding aclad aqua gloss on it? incredible paint but easily dulls.
Definitely interested too @barbatosrex9473 make a video using alclad aqua gloss with revell chrome please!
But downside is can't clear coat it as a fishing tackle maker I'm struggling on finding a good chrome
Cool 👍🏿
it is the same price as Alclad. The Revelle has 5oz, Alclad is about 7,8,$ an oz.
I'd like to know how it stands up to decals and decal setting solutions.
I haven't tested that yet. Are you a member of my Patreon channel? I answer questions like yours with short form videos there
The best results I've had with Spaz Stix have been over Testors Gloss Black Enamel.
I think I might have used that originally. I will try that again this weekend. Thanks for the info
@@barbatosrex9473 I recently tried Spaz Stix over Tamiya TS-14 Black and Krylon Shortcuts Black Enamel. The Krylon looked dull and the Tamiya wasn't half-bad. Definitely didn't look as bad as yours. But when I compared it to the spaz stix I had shot over Testors, Testors looked better. I wish your video had come up a few days sooner as I just bought the Spaz Stix Black Backer. I'll still give it a shot and see what happens.
Even months later this is out of stock everywhere. In the USA the only way I see to get it is to pay 85 a can for it on ebay. I was willing to give it a go at 40, but 85 is simply too rich for me :(
Add it to your notification at Mega Hobby and they will let you know when it is in. It came in recently but it sold out in a hour
So this Can or. A Not be clear coated after?
Clear coat ruins the chrome finish
