"Yo! Son Goku and Friends Return!" Probably has the perfect modern Dragon Ball art style. The characters aren't shiny like Super (primarily the solid coloured hair looks better than Super's 3 toned hair) and it just looks like if the old art style was cleaned up a bit and put in HD.
Personally my only gripe is the characters heads dont seem proportioned.

@@dannysmi7162 DBGT is bad, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. There's plenty to like there too: most fans actually likes the music, SSJ4 and concept of overusing dragon balls are also rather well regarded. Execution on the other hand (especially the first half) is mostly bad though - that's where the hate comes I guess.
Fun fact: at one point during the fight against Omega Shenron, Saiyans gathered around and gave their ki to Goku so he could finish the fight. They were one Saiyan short from creating a Super Saiyajin God :)

Toriko's anime really butchered what was an amazing manga. One of my favorite shonen despite the final arc being rushed out the door.
5:24 - The original Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans was a game first, then an OVA. That's probably why there's context missing in just the OVA.

@@johnnygyro2295 Honestly, I dunno. Card game RPGs aren't really my thing. If you're looking for a good story, this ain't the place although for a game as old as it is, it does a decent job of replicating the Dragon Ball style action.

The first thing they did was have a ton of wacky adventures, it only got more action focused after the baby arc was starting up. Then after that the show continued to faze out the adventures and did more action stuff set on earth.
@@Shift_Salt Yeah I'm talking more about the tone set thru the music. But even without that you got Luud being creepy and the whole "The Earth and all your friends are gonna die unless you get the dragon balls" stuff. It's not like, super edgy but its there.
I'm disappointed some of these OVA's never got a English Dub. Though that's how it is most of the time.
Considering they are nothing special, you guys on the English world aren't missing anything.
I feel that way about most of the One Piece specials and older movies. I would've loved to watched Dead End Adventure and Baron Omatsuri.

why do people hate Tarble? I Legit love him. 10/10 best Saiyan. Shows that a Saiyan being nice and not loving combat isn't something unique to Gine, and can be found in all classes of Saiyan society, as much as their culture might hate and try to hide that fact. He quite literally makes Saiyan's functioning as a society make more sense.
Plan to eradicate the Saiyans has different endings and routes you can take. The story takes place during the animated segments and the gameplay segments, hence why it can feel jarring by just watching the anime version on its own. There are alternate anime moments too which you can find, but they aren't really worth anyone's time.
You haven't mentioned the Dragon Ball Fire Rescue Special... Traffic safety Special... Oh and the Telephone (Terebikko) Game DBZ Special... And if you want to be really nit picky, the DBZ summer vacation special...
Also One Piece and Dragon Ball have a crossover animation which aired during a amusement event in the 2000s. Luffy and goku team up and fight around in the Japanese Skyline. It is better than the Dream 9 crossover.

Yo Son Goku is probably my favourite look that the series ever had. The pastel colours and the clean art direction sell it so well for me.

To be honest, i’m having trouble looking at dragon ball as a legitimate storyline in these OVAs, i see it as fan service (Bringing back Dragon Ball for Yo Son Goku and his friends return, Luffy meeting Goku, Super Saiyan Bardock, and bringing back movie villains for Plan to eradicate Saiyans). There is little to no emotion, cliche villainy, and continuous, continuous, obvious finishes like a Kamehameha or a combo of some sort.
TheHardcore Gamer Not all of them. In stories like Wrath of the Dragon, and Dragon Ball Suoer: Broly, the antagonist isn’t actually a Bad Guy, so in doing so, it gives the Film a sense of reality, and character. These Villains have humanity in them. So while both of them end in a big attack, They have emotion, and antagonists that go off the Dragon Ball spectrum.

Well two of them are promotional OVAs meant to drum up publicity rather than act as an actual release. Then again Mark has pointed out before that all the DBZ movies were like that, to an extent. These ones were just more direct, basically commercials. Plan to Eradicate Saiyans is game cut scenes, right? They're fun to take a look at but they don't belong on any tier list.

I have to say, i've always loved the Yo Goku and his Friends Return episode. I love how, compared to the normal dragon ball theme, it is very light hearted and the isn't any real threat at all. It's just pure fun! i love it!

I actually like Tarble. It’s like whatever civilized, family-focused genes Vegeta had to discover inside himself were just automatically installed in Tarble. And instead of learning how to be a family man, Tarble has to learn how to be a warrior. I wish he was in the main series, I just think he adds to Vegeta’s lore.

Making a point to go back and rewatch all your content (priority to Dragon Ball) again. Sucks to see what happened over the holidays and sucks to not see as many videos come from your channel. With that, I know I a lot of us are waiting to hear more of your thoughts on the upcoming movie this April. You’re one of the biggest voices to a lot of folks on DB character progression and story/narrative arcs. Too understandable that you’re probably still apprehensive over the whole ordeal I’m sure you’re still battling. Regardless, have to let you know, the viewers still love you Mark. I've been having a rough few days, new year blues I imagine, so thank you for posting this today. I've really enjoyed this series so far despite being a very casual dragonball fan.
As for missing parts of the story from game-related movies, it's fairly reasonable to assume that some of the information is given during game-play.

You also missed the old PSAs (which are available on the Dragon Ball Dragon Box from Japan), the year end reviews/recaps (with Gokuu and Gohan wearing matching white tuxedos) and these two live action-animation hybrids they did after the Freeza arc where Freeza comes to earth to take over Tokyo and Gokuu and other anime characters from that time join in to stop him. There was two of those.
I probably sound like I’m making those up but they were legitimate tv specials and the last ones got a bit wild and out there.

Hey Mark I really like your videos and one that stood out to me was when you rewrote the Buu saga and I was wondering if you were ever going to do another one. One I had in mind would be like trying to write your version of making another Broly(DBZ) movie which takes place after the Buu saga. I’d love to see your take on trying to make a cohesive story in which the challenge being to make broly an interesting character.

Fun fact: in the Manga EOS Toriko could actually give Goku a run for his money. Though it helps that the power scaling is easier to grasp in Toriko
I've gotta say, I've LOVE how the crossover was handled. Having no winner shows respect to all 3 ips. It doesn't take itself too seriously either so the winner/loser isnt important for it to work.
There's still a weird tv special that aired in Japan where goku uses trunks's time machine and goes to different times and makes quizzes for the viewers, it's very weird but it has a touching moment where Goku meets kid Goku
