The band was a guest on the show during intermission of the featured presentation , which were B movies from the 1950s . The tv station was based in Buffalo , New York . That show is long gone now .
There's an uncanny resemblance between Natalie and Mary. By no means near twins but odd that they somehow ended up with a replacement that closely resembled the original. I love listening to both of these great singers.

This must be Bryan Ferry' s most covered song. Made famous from movie 'Lost in Translation.' Debbie Harry does good version too but Ferry's original is definitely the most polished. Any one who attempts to cover song from Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry are very brave indeed.
I truly believe that instead of using a cover of a hit when introducing Mary, they really should have made sure they had one hit/beautiful song to give to Mary that would truly distinguish her from Natalie. I even remember when I first heard the song, I was in love with it, loved that Mary had a similar, yet different sound to Natalie but couldn't get past thinking: Man, a cover of a previous hit using a replacement Natalie. It was just not the best decision. Beyond the Blue was not good either.
This is a very mellow song with excellent instrumental arrangement. Better than the album version. However in my opinion the band was at its best when Natalie Merchant was the lead singer.There was a certain creative symbiosis in the band around the time Peace Train was released as a single. Persoanlly I think Natalie was at her best when she was with 10,000 Maniacs before she went solo.

Not a patch on Roxy Music though. That said it is an almost impossible song to do a la Brian Ferry and Phil Manzanera.....so still not a bad effort. They just don't get the subtle restrain in the original that holds the song slightly back...
