    I've been trying to figure out how the ultrasonic works on my one , I had a problem with the fan at the ultrasonic unit but I fixed it it's working like a dream, but I have no Idea how it vibrates the basket .
    My one was out of sink when I bought it and first time I turned it on it broke one of my jars 😂, but I figured all this sinking out , took me a whole day , thank for my Macgyver skills

    I worked on clocks and pocket watches in the mid 70 s. We had one of these in our shop. Fast forward to today. I work on food service ( kitchen ) equipment now. Hobart which is a industry standard in a lot of cases has a lot of mechanical parts in their mixers , especially the old ones. With you figuring out the timing sequence of this machine, I would affectionately call you a fart smeller. And if you know what that really means, it's a compliment. Your video is very well delivered and a 10 on the informative scale. Two thumbs up, and Thank you.

    That bulb is called a vacuum tube. There were many types. They were used in everything and were replacer by diodes and transistors which were replaced by electronics.

    Really neat machine! And good job breaking down how it runs. I found your video because I was searching for information on these, I just purchased a smaller simpler version of this... an L&R Master Cleaner. It needs some cleaning and the wires need replacing. Would it be ok the clean Jewelry in these? ... or would it scratch them up? Thanks!

      Hi Mr. Whisler. Thank you for watching my video and thank you for the positive compliment. You can clean jewelry in this machine with out scratching it. You wont believe how sparkly things will be when cleaned.
      If you have a speed adjustment...turn it down first and do a test run.
      All should be good once you find your speed setting. These L&R's are worth the time to fix and.... are reliable for years.

    I have one of these in to repair for a customer, the basket doesnt go right down during drying, and not going right down into the jars but starts spinning at high speed half way in the jar, then in the next jar it goes right down. (But by never having used one of these before, i'm unfamilier in how the cleaning cycly runs.)
    Could this be a micro switch fault? if so how does the carousel lift off in order to gain access to the may switches?

    • @watchesandwheels2093
      @watchesandwheels2093  Před 7 měsíci

      You should be able...if its the same model as mine to lift it right off the carousel shaft. From there you'll have to take the body cover off and have a look at everything. This is a very difficult machine to diagnose from my position. Without me being there to see it function.

    • @davidhochstrasser8658
      @davidhochstrasser8658 Před 4 měsíci

      If you are still working on yours the carousel has a large clip holding it in place.... Well it's supposed to!

    Very nice video! I have one of these and was unable to work on watches for several years. Over those years the machine sat unused. When I finally tried to use the machine again, the basket wouldn’t go high enough to clear the jars. Do you think that’s just a hydraulic oil problem or is there an adjustment for basket height? I’ve noticed that some of these machines clear the jar by a lot and others just clear by a little. Any help would be appreciated!

    • @watchesandwheels2093
      @watchesandwheels2093  Před rokem +1

      Yes for sure it sounds like a hydraulic problem. Mine did the same thing when I first got it. This machine has a dip stick which surprised me when I checked the oil. I hope that helps.

      @@watchesandwheels2093 thanks for the input. Yeah I have no leaks and the oil level is ok. Maybe I’ll try flushing out the hydraulic oil and putting new in. Any recommendations on a brand and weight that works in these machines?

      @@joetallon4968 Hi Joe. I use regular ATF fluid. No synthetic or blend of any kind. Let me know how it goes. If it is leaking internally....you might have to put in a new seal.

    Hello Brian, that is not a light bulb in your ultrasonic cleaner, it is a 312A vacuum tube (it says it on the base and on the glass). That one is a large air-cooled pentode, but I could not say what the exact purpose it serves without seeing a schematic.

    • @jptech57
      @jptech57 Před 3 lety

      Sorry, 812A. I misread it. Still not sure what the exact purpose would be.

      Well, I happened upon this document which answered my question. I suspected this since I know radio receivers use oscillation circuits. I'm just starting to learn about pre-solid state electronics. worldradiohistory.com/Archive-Courses/Radio-TV-Training-School-1949/Radio-TV-Training-School-Lesson-35-opt.pdf

      Mine only does that on one wash cycle.....the first one. I believe it to be a switch that is slightly out of phase. When I service the machine again...i will address that and do a follow up video for you.

      Hi Brian, Great video! I just stumbled across it when my machine went down........I have been using a Vari-Matic III for about thirty years now and about fifteen years ago it went down and I flipped out. After talking with L&R and others I found a guy that actually worked for L&R that was about 80 miles from where I live in Pa! So, the wife and I loaded my machine up and took it to see him, he and I rebuilt the entire hydraulic system and it worked great once again. He charged me a whopping 100 bucks which I thought was a great deal! The question I have for you is, did you have to take the whole platter off the machine to replace the micro switch? I just ordered 5 from Amazon as per your link, thanks for that. Richard Awiza

    your cleaning machine is still a little bit out of sync. solution in the jar will be slinging as the motor basket is prematurely spinning as it touches down into the jar. the motor basket should start spinning only after it has seated in the jar/drying chamber. u need to fudge the halfmoon dics with arm a few more degress

    • @watchesandwheels2093
      @watchesandwheels2093  Před 3 lety

      Hello. Good observation. :) It has always done that. It is spinning so slowly as it drops into the solution that by the time it starts the wash cycle, the motor has sealed the jar.
