From the natural resources growing around us to what’s planted in the garden, let’s walk around the property!
We all got hit with a cold and did not make much cabin progress this week. So, today we thought it would be fun to walk around the property and show off some of the natural flora and the projects we’ve completed to date.
There is still so much to do but we are proud of how far we have come!

Praying for you all to get well! You all have come so far already! Henry is just adorable. Your growing areas are really looking good. Becca don't be hard on yourself for not keeping your trailer up to a certain standard, you young lady have your hands full!
A little suggestion, if you could get just a couple sheets of Styrofoam insulation and put in your out house then get a small little buddy propane heater, hubby could go out first in the mornings, turn it on and you could go to a little warm outhouse later. I am sure Levi wouldn't mind.😅
I love Saturday morning coffee with y’all! You have come so far so fast! Henry is getting so big and he is so adorable! I garden here in Kentucky and my garden is coming along good as well! I think the best thing I could suggest for gardening is a referral to an Alaska channel that has amazing information on gardening there. Simple Living Alaska, Ariel and Eric are doing it all, gardening, hunting, preservation, chickens. They give amazing instruction on how to grow a garden successfully there. Keep up the amazing work guys you are living the dream life!

On our first trip to Alaska we met a guy chopping up Chaga into smaller pieces. I ended up buying $25.00 worth. Good luck with the garden and the cabin build. Love your channel . I just binged on it from the start. My brother has been in AK for over 50 years and the 49th state is the best of all 50. You two folks are a great couple and now Henry makes 3 wonderful people. Just a note on fiddleheads (which are delicious). Many ferns have a brown paper-like wrapping on the head but they aren't fiddleheads and may make you sick. A true fiddlehead has a distinctive triangular stem. We like them cooked in a pan with butter, olive oil, and cracked pepper. Yum

Honestly we live in Michigan on the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Our vegetable plants look like yours. It’s been very cool and rainy. Your plants look great. I canned rhubarb jam this morning. Very easy! You guys are doing a great job!!!

Our house in Anchorage was up against a city park with a lake in the middle. As it turned out the house was built next to the ancestral trail the moose used coming down from the Chugach mts. To the lake. Had to watch for moose when we'd go out to the mailbox . Even walking the trail in the park could be scary. Had one come up on our deck and look into the frontroom. Had to pull or german shepherd up stairs because I was afraid his barking would give us a house full of moose. LOL

We live in Eastern Colorado and do container garden, our soil has alot of clay. What we have learned doing containers is the plants do not get alot of nutrients. So we have to use supplements. Just a heads up. We make compost teas, fish liquid stuff, and So on. Hope this helps and doesn't come across as snoody. :)

when i went to Alaska last summer on a cruise, i bought some devil's club lip balm and it is amazing! i will be stocking up on that when we go back up on another cruise next fall. i also bought some devil's club salve stick which is great for abrasions, achy joints, sunburn and sore muscles made by snowy summit and i also will be stocking up on a bunch of it. it works great and it will be accompanying me to disneyland this fall because i KNOW i will have achy and sore muscles and joints after spending 3 days down there walking the parks. i would definitely study on ways to put that wonderful plant to use for you. love watching your channel and seeing the progress on your homestead.

Beautiful! So Usnea, Old man's Beard is a wonderful plant medicine. You can tincture it in alcohol. I use EverClear for it's high alcohol content but you could use vodka instead. Put the Usnea in a canning jar, any size, and cover the Usnea by two inches! Cover it with a lid and put in a cool dark area. Shake it daily if possible and let it sit for 4 weeks. Strain and bottle. I use a dropper bottle for dosing. For adults I would recommend 3-4 drops(can be added to water) on onset of cold, especially if there is a soar throat involved. 2-3 times per day max. I never use it more than a week. It works great! Anti staph and strep but if you think you have either make sure you see a doctor. It can really knock back colds! Garlic and oregano and rosemary are also very good for colds! I'm an herbalist/ herbal teacher so if you have any questions just let me know!Your garden looks great!! We are eating potatoes already but we planted a month early here in KS!

I love your baby carrier. We had one of the first of them over 35 years ago. I used it more than she did . We would go to the Swamp meet and I would take the baby and off I would go . Wife walks slow .

Rhubarb bbq sauce is good and u water bath can it, it is I'm the ball canning book. Beckya@acrehomestead has a delicious recipe she has adapted from the Victorian bbq sauce recipe. Has chipotle powder in it. That's what I make!❤ great progress u guys!

My sweet potatoes rotted unfortunately but I'll plan better for next year! I have lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, peppers and potatoes. Some strawberries and raspberries going in soon! This year is definitely trial and error. ☺️
