Ok, so they weren't released on release weekend, they were released immediately after. I wanted to do a short video diving into the highs and lows of these new lists, but it turns out I can't restrain my enthusiasm so this is a tad longer than anticipated. Maybe I will do something shorter for Friday (yeah right) but in the meantime here are all my thoughts on the Lizardmen, Skaven, Chaos Dwarfs and Daemons, Vampire Counts and of course the Ogre Kingdoms. We don't talk about the Dark Elves.
ALSO! I had some more thoughts on Made to Order... so stick it through to the end for those!
As ever, I can be found on Twitter, Bluesky and Instagram as 90Percentgeek so why not come and follow me there as well to stay up to date on what I'm painting.

My 4th Edition Undead Army is still my favourite after all these years.

Loved the video and I’m not trying to criticize you or anything, but I did notice a few errors.
The Lizardmen list does have Chameleon skinks (pg 7).
The gutter runners do have the ability to purchase the ambusher special rule, so they do have the ability to pop out like they would with the drill. The Skaven do have Warpstone tokens to boost their magic (pg22).
I’m speculating here, but I think WoC and Beastmen will be able to ally in Daemons. That makes more sense to me than allying in WoC and Beasts into a Daemon list.
You could mount your necromancer on a Manticore and count it as an Abyssal Terror, they seem pretty similar.
Couldn’t agree more with most of your issues with the Dark Elves and the lack of a Vamp Lord.
Overall, I’m happy with the PDFs and can’t wait to try them out. Thank you for the videos and keep up the great work.

By all means call me out when I get stuff wrong! I found the chameleon skins later on (they were obviously well camouflaged!!) But missed the warptokens (that's good at least and raises the Skaven in my estimation!) While gutter runners can have the ambush special rule, not being able to have a big warpstone drill is still a shame.
I did consider that the abyssal terror special rules are very similar to the manticore so that's something, but I got confused on Dieter Hellsnicht - he was nearly 1000 years earlier!!! Still have high hopes of getting a model of him at some point, will have to work out what to arm him with!

Great review, thank you for that.
VC are probably the best of the bunch, really focusing on more so undead and not just Vampires this time round.
It’s very fluffy having Necromancer and wight armies, instead of just generic vampires

Indeed! I am now on the hunt for a Dieter Hellsnicht model to run a Necromancer list with!

  • @jasonm5600

Thank you for being one of the first to do a full break down.
    For skaven a couple items:
    1. warpstone tokens come with the greyseer.
    2. Plague priests, assassins, and engineers, are one per 1000 point and effectively share the same slot.
This means in a 2000 point list you are limited to two of those heroes in any combination.
That also means the units which require them to take at 0-1 per are limited to a maximum of two in a 2000 point army. Therefore you can have two units of plague monks, but you would not be able to take any Skyre units.
Moulder and Eshin are the only clans that can be run traditionally.

My wishlist for Lizardmen: Make Saurus warriors cheaper per model currently 14pts/model; 15pts for a Saurus spear model, base cost in 8th Ed was 11pts for a Saurus warrior. I do understand they are heavy infantry, but still, its too steep a rate. Especially seeing that Skink cohorts are not available in Old World.

The change with iron fists is made so that the characters can’t access magical shields and improve their armor saves with magical weapons. The characters are so beefy they probably didn’t want their armor saves becoming too good

A 40mm round and square has the same footprint. Just put them in a movement tray and they are good for both games.
EDIT: As I watch the video I realise you are just doing it now (or yesterday)

Bah, rebasing, when did people abandon reason for madness.
Excited to see what they add as options in future for each faction especially Lizardmen, about the only Characters from Fantasy that would have still been alive then.

Interestingly not necessarily, I did a video about this point. Tyrion and Teclis were alive at this point, as we're a few others.

True, High/Wood/Dark Elves, 1 Dwarf Runelord, Lizardmen, Tomb kings, Green Knight and lady of the lake, Demons. Would all have existing Characters just a lot younger for the most part.

Better than not getting any rules to be fair. I like a lot of it! Hopefully, we get a full update in the far future. Also, jungle swarms are back, you have a use for those spare little creatures on your sprues again now folks!

  • @DenSluge
    @DenSluge Před 6 měsíci +2

Dark Elves noble and lord can't ride dark Pegasus. Such a shame.
Skaven Vermin Lord is gone. Giant rats are 10+ and must include at least 4 pack masters. That's 30 points for the unit of Giant rats, and 20 for the 4 pack masters. 50 points for a unit of 14 models. I guess they are the new slaves, but pack masters aren't cheap and one for every three Giant rats means a minimum of 4 expensive pack masters.

    • @90percentgeek

Gods, I had forgotten all about the Vermin Lord! That's a crazy thing to be missing from the army list!

@@90percentgeek And I happen to have multiple ones. One for Eshin, Pestilens and two of the good old metal ones. I wish for an errata that brings back Vermin Lords. Also miss the Bone Breaker and War Litter. Got so many of those, and the pestilens wolf rat conversion. But I can always play 8th edition I guess, with myself... As everyone is either playing ninth or old world nowadays. Never touched Age of Shitmar, never will.

Yeah, sacred spawnings could have been easy and nice.. yet.. They have GOOD stats. And the Lizardmen in 6th Ed, which all of it feels like the early 6th Ed power level, pushed it a little.. Not too far but they had a little better book than the early books. I like it that people have to use the actual basic stats a little bit more. And they aren´t bad!
Many players should stop drooling for Rare and Special and just think Core stuff is something annoying..

@@90percentgeek I think the Dark Elves look good - they have elven reflexes across the board, interesting spells and can reroll casting. Plus they really hate high elves which will help in that matchup

  • @ja37d-34

It feels like the 6th Ed Ravening Hordes times - balanced lists checked against each others. I like it! Stay at this power level please, no massive power creep, no retardation like in 8th Ed..

It does look like there has been put a lot of effort into these pdf's. However it is overshadowed by the shame, that they will receive no further support. It still remain hopeful that they will be involved further down the line, if TOW continues to do well, but recent communication from GW regarding this has not been encouraging. A side note: When TOW was first announced I thought I would start a new army. I spend a lot of time switching back and forth about whether it was going to be lizardmen, skaven or vampire counts if the chaos dwarfs didn't return....none of them did :D

not, they arent good, they are a poor zero work and effort example.
they just copyed high elfs rules but nerfed to dark elfs and exoensiver in points, then the same vampire counts have same rules than khemri but again worse and exoensiver.
its a joke how they have deleted these armys
