Love this British Gentleman and his advice, I've been watching this for a while and also love the mic scratching sounds (and I'm happy that the shop seems to exist, still). It's not a lost art at all. Shoes like this were always reserved for the wealthy and were always on a small, specialist scale. Most people wore absolute crap before the 1940s and if anything cheap manufacturing has opened the market to people with lower incomes. The fact that many people choose to buy absolute rubbish that falls apart in a few wears is neither here nor there. They are to essentially be ignored by the middle to upper price ranges in the market.

I've been fortunate to meet Martin Grey at the opening of the Cheaney shop in Jermyn St, London. A knowledgeable and very nice man, and he's still very involved working at the Head Office in Northamptonshire. Needless to say , I wear Cheaney shoes ever since I bought my first pair 20 years ago. Its a joy to wear them.
