  • In this video I go over the differences of the BMW E60/ E61 facelift and none facelift differences. LCI vs Pre LCI.
I had a hard time choosing between LCI and pre LCI variant. I spend countless hours researching the differences. It’s hard to decide whether or not it’s worth spending extra money for LCI e60.
I couldn’t find an in-depth review underlining all the differences. So, I decided to save your time and made this pre LCI and LCI comparison. This video will cover most important changes BMW made with e60 facelift.

When the E60 was launched a lot of people hated the design. For me I love the design. They learned from the e65 and made the 5 series look better.

I have a 2008 E60, and I’ve always liked the looks of that car. Expensive to maintain. I just replaced the stock CCC screen with an aftermarket one that has Bluetooth/Apple CarPlay (wired and unwired), along with a backup camera. It’s a nice, non-destructive upgrade for the car, and was < $400 US

N52 is also used in LCI. Both N53 and N52 are build from aluminum and magnesium - NO difference here. The only 2 differences are - N53 have direct fuel injection and the Valvteronic is not present. N53 was not successful an engine - you can judge by that N52 was still used in some F10 models.

Mine is a 2007 E61 530i msport and seems to be of mix. Its a Japanese import to NZ and has the LCI lights, gear shift lever, interior buttons but the N52 engine but later version with different CCV system. My warranty has expired after 3 years but decided to keep the car as just love it. I've invested money into preventative maintenance which I think a good idea if you want to steer clear of problems that will occur.

I think preLCI is the one to buy because:
    - it has the original E60 design un-altered. The LCI is already looking up to be more F10-like (if that is possible - very good joke). For instance: 1) The inner front door handle - what a cheap look on that LCI. 2) the rear bumper on preLCI has no extra reflexion lights on it - looks total bad-ass - THAT is how this design should be all muscle
    - it is more clasic from a mechanic's point
    - the innovations brought by LCI are irelevant from a 2024 point: night vision ?! Better display resolution? The only goog imrovement is the gearbox knob and the drive by wire thing.
    - LCI engines are usually sh..ty: 2.0d 177hp distribution problems, 530i N53 is full of problems..as well as 525i same engine..4.8i is also problematic.

Still old BMW screams lot of maintaining, so if your wallet is not so big and you dont know nothing about cars, then it is better to pick car like Toyota. :)

from personal experience i can tell you right away that e60 is very problematic and i am not even talking about engine here, i am mostly talking about regular shit that you would expect german cars don't have....This car requires deep pockets. I love mine and i will probably keep it for next 2-3 years but the cost that comes with it is really painful.. Someone who had this car probably knows what i am talking about.

Oh, I feel you. I've had my 535i xdrive e60 for quite a few years now so I can say that routine maintenance is costly. But, so many upgraded parts exist that once something breaks, find its upgraded equivalent for the same money as stock and build a better version.
Currently, my shocks are going to need replacement soon! I'll be replacing them with Bagged suspension.

A petrol e60 will do over 430,000kms with regular maintenance there plenty of videos here in Australia I've seen e60's with 530,000kms same engine and trans 😂

@@kaneclark7171 it's not my problem that i bought a diesel, it was the only choice in my country. Petrols are very hard to find plus if you do import one from outside then you are doomed with it forever since nobody will ever buy it. Besides, my car is maintanced pretty good, dpf is off and turbo died on me, but other then that engine is pretty good. THe real problem is shit around it, mostly electronics and sensors. Themostats and Glow plug relays die every year, i use only BERU. M57 is one of the best diesels but stuff around it is not satisfying BMW trademark.

Yes it is an old car - and anyone who says they "like" the looks of the car - could also probably say that they like how the design of ASPHALT (not the game... the road) looks - or that they like the design of a telephone pole, a garden shed - or their mum's buttocks. IT IS A BAD DESIGN - from every angle - Bangle is now designing toasters and fridges for Samsung - he should never have "ventured" into car design - and even BMW recognized that, by designing one of the most beautiful 5 series after that - the F10/F11 which I bought just a couple of weeks ago (2012 F11 530d xDrive). I recently parked my car next to an E61 at a shopping mall - and took pictures of both of them - and JESUS does the E61 look bad. The Hoffmeister's kink is all wrong - and the nostril grilles are all wrong (looks like BMW was ridiculing/raping its own gene pool - but that's nothing new for BMW nowadays, look at the monster XM). The rear trunk lid has the wrong angle (too vertical/steep) which makes the car look like some sort of raped Passat - which is understandable, because they wanted more cargo space litres - but guess what, the F11 still has more (as far as I know) - and even if it doesn't - I would gladly give 10 litres of cargo space - and in exchange get rid of that ugly ass (I'm transporting a freezer box once in a lifetime anyway - and for that I have the roof rails). The sides of the car (E61) are ugly AF - they look like some shapeless blobs with no form - from the sides, that could be any KIA or Toyota (sorry, Korea and Japan) - whereas the F10/F11 have the beautiful character line on the sides which starts with the headlights and continues through the door handles to the taillights - which actually suits BMW much better, complementing the overall much sleeker, sportier look. E60/E61 will forever be remembered as some of the ugliest 5series (don't worry, current owners - that title can still be awarded to new 5series any time - seeing how BMW's design has been constantly deteriorating for abt. 5 years now) - whereas the E28 and the mighty E39 (to some extent - also the E34 and my baby - the F11) - will always be remembered as some of the most beautiful and best-designed ones. The same story goes for interior - which in an E60 is simply BAAAAD. Sorry for the cold hard truth - and we know you all love your bimmers - (and there is one good aspect for the E60/E61 - they were still made with the manual boxes AND the largest engines AND xDrive - which do not exist on F10/F11) - but be honest about the design. It's bad. Thanks for the video - and best of luck from Latvia.
