      They are polished stainless. I don't want to bang on the fasteners just to mess up the finish. Plus a drill or impact doesn't tighten them to the same torque and over time lessens the torque value. Doing it by hand ensure you get the right feel.

  • @steveschramko2386
    @steveschramko2386 Před 8 měsíci

    Lowering VW's like this is a BAD, BAD idea. The safety concerns should be obvious. Also never mentioned are the mechanical issues. Placing the crankcase lower to the ground places it into much closer proximity to the road surface which like all aggregates is a thermal mass with a high heat gain. This causes the oil to be pre-heated and the engine to run hot. Air circulation (the only cooling a VW has) is further impeded. A litany of mechanical issues and premature failures can be expected. The German engineers who designed the car were the BEST in the world. The car was field tested probably more than any other car in history, using the full resources of the state. If the car ran better lowered than stock, they would have built it this way...they didn't ! Draw your own conclusion.

    • @AirkewldVWs
      @AirkewldVWs  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks for commenting Steve. This Beetle was lowered for aesthetics with the emphasis on ride quality at that height. Your statements, IMHO, are reaching, if I can be honest. If we are talking about a vehicle that we are driving everyday in traffic, heat gain is a fact. But no one cares because it isn't their daily. But just like cause and effect, there is always a cause to every effect. So everything you mentioned can be cured rather easily, but this isn't the place nor the time. You give these German engineers a little too much credit. They left so many areas of improvement, they were smart enough to make a car that was embraced by millions but lets be realistic, it isn't a 2024 Porsche....and yes I know who invented the cars. Back in the day, 60mph was ludicrous. Please compare apples to oranges. Customizing wasn't even a real thing in the 50/s, 60's and early 70's but it was bound to happen and it did. I appreciate you commenting again Steve, we all have opinions and if we can have an honest debate about things, I am all for it. Have a great weekend!
