  • There's only one letter's difference between the GSX-R1000 and the GSX-R1000R but what is the difference in the real world? Is the 'R' really worth the higher purchase price? Don takes a fast friend to Red Star Raceway to find out once and for all.

    What I learned from my Daytona 675 and gsxr 750 is that the more “technology” you jam into a bike means the more things that can go wrong and fail on you and leave you stranded on the side of the rode.

      To this day, I still enjoy my 2005 R1 (exhaust under the seat) where you had no assistance and nothing. Just your aptitude to control acceleration and breaking. I prefered it that way. Now, it is packed with technology and it also cost almost the double (mine brand new r1 2005 12300 euro vs around 20.000 now).

      @AJTalks Před 6 lety +12

      You lose out on cornering ABS, lightweight battery, and no fork internals can compete with the external cartridge on the BFF except for a complete set of ohlins forks.I did the math, you end up spending more on the base. Plus no sexy LED strips.

    • @juicer404
      @juicer404 Před 6 lety +8

      them brembos and even the showa suspenion be made for mass production so wouldnt be as good as the aftermarket stuff u can buy, bit like a ohlins damper on a zx10r, they be licence by ohlins to make but wouldnt be anywhere near as good as after market u can buy for it, same goes for the ohlins that come on rsv4, there never gonna be as good as aftermartket stuff u buy direct from ohlins, anyone i know that raced the zx10r that came with showa still bought aftermarket ktec cartridge kit or ohlins one... ull see nobody on grid racing with that R rated shit that comes on special edition bikes

    • @LucaBonato
      @LucaBonato Před 6 lety +3

      +Alex Johnson abs is normally excluded by riders because it's too invasive. the forks are not so good, even the standard ohlins for some bike are not real Ohlins... external cartridge is just cool to see but nothing extraordinaire. even on a small crash you can damage the reservoir.

    • @AJTalks
      @AJTalks Před 6 lety +4

      The external reservoirs are not for show, they isolate the compression and rebound dampening. The standard forks don't do that. All of the standard Ohlins equipped bikes also have separated compression and rebound. You can't add that feature to the big pistons

  • @jorgehernandez1294
    @jorgehernandez1294 Před 6 lety +11

    Basically, just buy the standard if you wont used it for the track.

    • @Zeebo1uk
      @Zeebo1uk Před 6 lety

      NewReefAddict ! For racers the base model is better because fork cartridge kits are used and rear shock replaced, also the sensor for the auto blipper on the R model is too sensitive (caused a few crashes already) so after market on would he better, both bikes have the same motor only a few differences between bikes which don't justify the price hike

    No mention of cornering ABS for the R? And why does he keep calling the BFFs big piston forks instead of balance free forks? The stocker has the big pistons.The forks are the same height as the base model with the option to raise the clip ons for more stroke under braking for the track.

      It's not Suzuki's fault, it's Euro4 fault. AND Suzuki did not put a huge bread basket under the bike (a la R1 and S1000RR, both looking ugly, and new Fireblade covering it up nicely with stretched fairing), instead making a bigger muffler...which is easily replaceable! Smart from Suzuki, as usual, their bikes are easy to work on.

The fun part of riding is mastering all the inputs with your own brain and skills. If they perfect that robot that rides will you buy that to and just have it ride for you? Seriously the world needs to step back and realize this is not progress.
