MASSIVE Marwari Rajasthani THAAL ( 25 + dishes ) in Gurgaon I Badiyan Faliyan, Govind Gatta & More

- In today's episode we will take you beyond the popularity of dal bati churma, kadhi etc, and introduce you to some classic Marwari dishes from the state of Rajasthan. For this we have come to Gurgaon at the house of Komal and Jatin Thanvi. They are a resident of Faloodi in Rajasthan. Komal is a budding home chef who shares her culinary activities through her CZcams channel ( / @komalgajjaskitchen ) .
They have invited us to experience a huge Marwari Thaal comprising both popular and lesser known dishes. For snacks we had mirchi vada, khoka and dal paratha with tea. Jatin shared so many references about the Marwari culture and way of life. After that we moved to the kitchen to witness the lunch preparation. There was a long line of dishes that Komal had planned for us like badiyan faliyan, govind gatta, ker draksh, kachar faliyan, lapsi, bajre ka paratha etc. Most of these dishes are prepared with native ingredients sourced straight from their hometown.
The cooking technique of most of the curries were quite similar but the taste varies due to ingredients. The everyday spices used in this cuisine includes cumin seeds, coriander powder, hing, kachari powder and red chilli powder. During the cooking process Komal briefed us about the dishes while Jatin informed us about the stories and cultural connotations associated with them.
Finally we all sat down together round the humongous thali with nearly twenty food items. As per the Marwari culture we started with the sweet and then moved on to the main dishes and breads. Also two very important components of such a thali are papad and pickles.
It was a scrumptious experience so do watch till the end.

Wonderful. First of all, the lady is so beautiful, humble and sweet. Smart cook too. Uses simple spices, cooked food in the mode of goodness and served with so much devotion 🙏🏼. My ancestors came from Rajasthan to Fiji about 150 yrs ago. We don’t much about this place. At least I learnt about some food items today. Thank you so much for this cultural experience 🙏🏼

Actually our forefathers were from Udaipur and we live in Karachi but our mewari culture is still present in food,language and wedding celebrations although as was mentioned in this episode we have a strong Gujrati influence,we speak Gujarati /Mewari mix language.

What a wonderful video of Rajasthani cuisine. The lady put so much effort to make so many dishes and was so lovely. I am not very happy that Anubhav did not bother to mention her youtube channel and encourage people to support her channel as well for authentic Marwari recipes. The name of her channel just popped up on the screen like a flash and disappeared. There are so many youtubers who do collaborations and mention each other's channels to support one another. And this was an actual collab. His channel is so large and now is developing this channel, so he needs to understand that she is helping his channel so the least he can do is mention her channel name and ask people to subscribe to hers. I hope he reads my comment and makes sure he encourages people to help other channels as well and not just his channel.

Absolutely delightful hosts. They stayed down-to-earth without sounding pompous and glorying their culture unnecessarily. Rajasthan has a very rich culture, spanning art, dance, music, fashion, warfare, architecture and whatnot! The nature of Rajasthanis not blowing their own trumpet of their rich culture is one reason, sadly, why it not too wide spread (IMO). Same goes for the north Eastern states.

He's right when he says "Rajasthani cuisine is more than "daal bhati churma". I've resided there for a year and I've friends from Jodhpur, and basing my experience I can authoritatively contend that one can easily explore the Heritage sites of Jodhpur in a single trip, but one cannot explore their rich cuisine in a 7 day trip. Even after residing there for a year, whenever I go to Jodhpur, I'm served with a new dish with completely different flavour. BTW at the same time I'll add that one needs to have friends from Jodhpur, like I've, so that one can explore that culture and cuisine.
