    • Delhi Food Tour - The ...
Alongside the swanky malls, office buildings and residential highrises that defines most of the skylines in Gurugram, there thrives the city’s oldest and busiest marketplace known as the Sadar Bazaar. Located next to the main bus stand in the old city, it remains a popular destination for most of the residents because unlike the malls the products here are more economical and there are more varieties. No wonder that the marketplace, which stretches more than 5 kms, has some amazing eateries, many of which are more than 60 years old. So in this episode we bring you our food explorations from the Sadar Bazaar, a foodie’s haven and the birthplace of the very famous sweet Dodha burfi in India.
We started the trail from the very popular Gandhi Ji Pakodewala whose fritters are the hot favourites among the locals. A family business in its third generation, this pakoda shop is one to impress. Here we tried an assortment of crisp and delicious pakoras like Soya Chap pakodas, Kamal Kakdi or Lotus stem pakoda, Paneer, Palak and Onion pakodas etc. along with and equally yummy green and dry ginger chutney.
So our next stop was Pandit Ji Ka Dhaba. This place is known for its Desi Ghee based pure vegetarian meals that has no onion or garlic in it. We tried their Thali comprising of two Chule ki Roti or firewood baked roti(their speciality), dal, potato curry with chole and Kheer. The spread was simple and soulful. So if you want to have a proper meal instead of snacks at this busy market then this place is just perfect. Also their famous kheer is available on Tuesdays only.
From there we went to Sardar Jalebi wala. The first thing that wondered us was the excited crowd of Jalebi aficionados and second was the irresistible smell of freshly prepared Jalebis. The stellar reputation of this seventy years old shop can be attributed to the quality of the Jalebis. The genial owner informed us that they make fresh batch every now and then and most importantly they don't add any flavour or artificial colours. The crisp and syrupy beauties were truly toothsome.
Next we reached Baljees restaurant to try their chole bhature which is deemed to be the best in this part of the city stretch. We weren't disappointed at all as the chole bhature were truly delicious. Along with the pindi chole we also had their paneer pakoda which was impressive too. This place serves delectable snacks spread at an affordable price.
Finally we reached the Sham Sweets an iconic establishment that is known to be the pioneer of Dodha burfi. Here we tried the deliciously nutritious Dodha burfi along with Kesar Khoya Ghewar. The delectable dodha burfi is a typical region specific sweetmeat that is characterized by caramelized and nutty flavour and granular texture. It is prepared from a mixture of milk, germinated wheat paste and sugar. The ghewar is again a seasonal dessert that is available during only during the monsoons. This honeycomb like sweet is preferred for its soft, spongy and chewy texture and luscious taste. If you are in the Northern part of India then you must try it along with Dodha.
After all those yummy treats we can easily say that Sadar Bazaar is a must try food destination in Delhi NCR.

GURGAON is a city near Delhi. It is a very good place for Japanese people. The software industry is growing rapidly at GURGAON. I also heard that security is very good. The expressions of the people in the video are also bright and friendly. The whole city is full of vibrancy, food is plentiful, and it is likely to develop more and more. Sweets look delicious. Thank you, God.

Gurgaon/Gurugram has a migrant Hindu/Sikh population from Multan and nearby areas. They must have brought this along with them. There is a restaurant called "Multani Theeya" in gurgaon . www.google.com/amp/s/m.hindustantimes.com/gurugram/mianwali-colony-gurugram-locality-of-migrants-from-pakistan-district-with-same-name/story-7Q4R1jiUayokatccanRA9I_amp.html

Gurgaon mein sab Multan side ke log zyaada aye thay. Mianwali colony bhi hai yahan. Rohtak mein Jhang ke. Hansi mein bhi Multan side ki zyaaya. Haan, aur Multan ka matlab saari Seraiki belt (tab Seriaki word nahi use hota tha). Chahe Multan ke hon, Layyah ke, Dera Gazi Khan ke, Muzaffargarh ke, Mianwali ke, Bahawalpur ke, sab apne ko Multani bolte hain aur language ko bhi Multani kehte hain. Seraiki word baad ka hai. Humare ghar mein Dhodha ko Sohan Halwa hi bolte hain. "Dhoda" word Khushab side ka hai. Sargodha etc ke log Dhoda-barfi bolte hain. Multani log Sohan-Halwa bolte hain. Ab to Gurgaon mein har mithai ki dukan mein milta hai aur Delhi aur aas-paas ke doosre cities mein bhi.

Dhoda Burfi or Habshi Halwa is a very old sweet. This sweet has evolved from Aate Ka Halwa. Pinni Sweet also belongs to this sweet family. If someone tells that dhoda is the invention of his forefathers he speaks lies. In ancient times dhoda was specially made in winters and used to give strength. It is also a misconception that a wrestler has invented it. It may be that dhoda is the favorite sweet of the wrestlers because of nutritious quality and long shelf life. Sprouted wheat flour, milk and desi ghee make dhoda an energy booster.

Its nice to see that how migrant from Pakistan side are doing well in India. Actually at the time of partition my forefathers migrated from kaithal to dg Khan and it's like partition was the transfer of people's. That people who were from dg Khan are now living in gurgaon and vice versa. Nice food tour of gurgaon with information.

Such good stuff you post Anubhav Sapra. I always believe its better to eat hot fresh food even if it is fried and calorie rich than eat stale and so called healthy food these expensive restaurants serve. Our small scale restaurants charge nominally and work so hard. I love the way you always prefer such places. I rarely see you pick an expensive restaurant.
If i might add, you can ask these restaurants for smaller or half portions when you go alone and still pay them the total fee. That way you make them happy and also you can easily finish the food.
