And you had to battle other girls for the boys. And if you "zapped them enough" you basically had a trail of ghost-lovers trailing up behind you, with different types of boys.
Holy shit...one type was even in a relationship. If you had enough power, you could rip a bound man from his gf.

I feel like what’s the saddest about this is that it’s such a unique experience growing up in the olden days of shitty flash games. It’s something that will probably never be recreated ever again (not really a bad thing though cause we’re all fucked). It’s just a rare experience that you will never understand unless you spent hours on your nasty old computer that could only run shitty flash games cause if you did anything more it would explode

What's especially sad is that I was one of the few kids who actually played these flash games at my age, I still have the save files from my Steven Universe and Warrior cats paper doll OCs, so old that I made a pink diamond character because canonically she didn't exist yet. Nobody my age remembers games like Animal jam and the water park games because they were too busy playing Roblox and Minecraft. I kinda wish I was born earlier because I can't relate to many people's childhoods, which makes me feel lonely when thinking about how fun these games used to be.

"Why did a flash game site targeted at tween girls start petering off in the 2010's?"
The 3DS, which was the next (and last) in the DS line, which was the most popular line of video game consoles among young girls, came out and so did Animal Crossing New Leaf, which was (at the time) the newest installment in a franchise that was also massively popular among young girls. It was also when we would get the pokemon games with the fairy-typing, themes of fashion, and introduction of a nintendogs-like gameplay mechanic. I think what happened was that the mainstream video gaming market just ended up striking a chord with young girls at that moment in time.

(not talking about tween girls specifically but) the DS and 3DS were extremely popular in their own right but flash game sites had the advantage of having wide catalogs of free games. Hey, Izzy! I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to you for bringing up the "Shopaholic" game series in this video. For over 10 years, I have been trying to find this game as it was a favorite when I was a child and it stuck in my memory. I had never ever been able to find anything, as even tough I remembered playing it, I couldn't remember anything related to mechanics, style, platform, etc. Nothing except a few scattered pieces. It was basically my "The Evil Farming Game" experience. Though there are other games I'd like to find from my childhood, this one was the one I remembered the less, so it's great to now know its name. Thank you!

oohh man :( i miss flash SO much, my entire childhood felt centred around it as I was also a frequent girlsgogames player, knowing its all gone makes me so sad, but knowing i was there for it also makes me feel reassured

Did anyone else remember like salon games? Where you'd have customers line up and drag them to various stations and run around to help them. There'd be upgrades when you got money at the end of the levels so you could improve your salon and other things, there were also customers that were more snippy about how long you took to get to them.
There was also a plethora of like pet games, where you would run around to various rooms to take care of sick or injured pets. You'd get an emergency alert that I swear would give you a heart attack, and you'd be rushed to a back room where an ambulance would dump out a ton of pets.
    Also the dolphin games...

I will say, Coolmath games has been working hard at implementing Flash emulators into their website to make some of these Flash games playable again! They don’t have a ton so far and it’s still clunky, but it’s still cool to see them trying

There's also the Flashpoint project, which is a publicly edited and funded free-to-download-and-play archive of flash games. I used to have it on my old computer and it worked great, but they haven't gotten it to work on chromebooks yet, which is what I have now. Hopefully they'll get it working on that OS too someday

I could literally listen to you talk about anything. I love how you present your information and personal experiences when able. It makes it really easy to keep up with and compartmentalize. I also love how you discuss so many topics in depth, especially if it's one I've had personal experience with as well.
This video for example I remember going on this website on and off and being really uncomfortable with how forced the "girl" in girls go games was shoved in people's faces. Also as a child I was able to see right through the weird fetish type games and stayed away from them entirely.
So for my experience with the website I found myself more indifferent to it while my friends at the time really liked it, so it's interesting to see it through both lenses of not really caring about the website and putting myself in the shoes of those who loved it and seeing the relic it has become.
