A friendly point, from a kindred spirit: I used to keep all my desk gains at -6 db (@ +4 dbu) on playback, too. I always had headroom problems, I'd have to take extra steps to rectify. Then I placed the pot at the +4dbu line, which is 0 (@ +4 dbu). That was the day I started cashing in.....
Love the desk
AWESOME TO SEE!!!
This song sounds great and there's a lot going on, I'm sure a lot of people would love to see a mix tutorial of this song.
+Scott Osterloh Thanks! This is a song I wrote and recorded two years ago. It's also on my EP "Zed Marty" you can find on Bandcamp. When I find the time, I will try to make a mix breakdown!
Maikel Zweers thanks for watching! Signal for monitors comes directly from the console. Drums are summed in Logic Pro X to a Stereo Bus, this Bus is then send to the console.
Hey man, I Just got one of these i would like to know if theres any videos in how to setup to use it with logic pro x
i like it!
Nice Mackie 32-8 man in good shape too!
This is an Behringer MX8000
how you build the Desk for the mixer?
how is this mixer? it gets alot of heat. how is the EQs?
hi ive.got.behringer.eurodesk.sx4882.it.powers.up.ok.but.when.switched.off.it.dos.not.come.back.on.for.5days.help.please
That's sounds really good.
I liked it a lot man!!! It's possible to mix like this with a Eurodesk MX9000? I want a lot to do this way, but I have no ideia how to configure it
Andrey Henrique Yes, totally possible! The MX9000 is basically just a newer version of this console - layout is the same. Check out those videos, thy might help: czcams.com/video/10Q01Ko-6Es/video.html , czcams.com/video/e2oa24rIQiI/video.html
LBmusicexperience Thanks a lot man!!!! was a big help :), congrats for your job!!!
BEHRINGER MX 8000...
Yes, i have a mx9000 too, i have a video of It on My channel
nice approach, but it seems you use the desk more like a summing unit rather than a mixer console because i saw you premix some channels like drums, you dont have complete separation of all tracks.
another thing i've noticed, you dont use automations on the desk because it doesnt have, but you dont also move the faders manually during mixdown on tape, so did you use automations in logic? i had this problem when mixing on neve 48 vr, using automation not on the desk but in pro tools, and I have to make a particular routing with send effect from the console on to the desk because if i do an automation in software the send on the channel works like a pre fader send and it is not good sometimes for reverbs etc...how did you solved this? i saw you put some external reverb on tracks using aux send on the desk...
Well, with 24 channels on the console you have to sum quite some tracks. It‘s like a template actually, every track in the DAW goes to a specific channel on the console. Like drums, bass, acoustic guitars, lead vocals,... It‘s very efficient and I can use external effects and compressors without using a patchbay.
I do all automation in logic as the console has none.
Btw I have a new console with 32 channels now, giving me some more options.
Itu pake bahrangermx 8000 gan...apakah di negara anda masih menjuall mixer tersebut...salam dari Indonesia gan
Hi, how do you manage your automations? Does that console have motorized faders? Thanks in advance!
Axel Bezzi hi, old school console - so no motorized faders:-) But, it's pretty simple when you set up a subgroup for it. You can basically route every channel to this group and record it back into the daw. I show that in this video: czcams.com/video/6ix3xSfdFnU/video.html
I also use the Waves Vocal/Bass Rider plugin, however I'm more the fader guy!
Great clip mate...just wondering what are you using for your recorded audio to be run back into your console...I see that you're making adjustments on individual tracks then it looks to be going into your computer.
edgeboys Thanks for watching! I have 3 Presonus Firestudio Projects in daisy-chain mode which give me 24 Analog Outputs. Those are connected to the Tape Returns of each channel on the console. The Stereo Main Mix runs back into the computer through one of the Firestudios. The Outboard gear in the rack is on the inserts and aux channels.
LBmusicexperience Right...Ta mate. Keep up the good work.
Oi gostaria de tirar uma dúvida?
Hello :) can you please describe your signal chain in detail? Thank you so much and good job :) Well done!
Hi! Thanks! Have you already seen my hybrid mixing series? You can see my whole signal chain there. First Part: czcams.com/video/10Q01Ko-6Es/video.html
I would really would like to figure out how to route my mixer to logic on my mac
Hi! I have a hybrid mixing series on my channel where I show all the connections and routings. Here's part 1: czcams.com/video/10Q01Ko-6Es/video.html
24 I/O interface or D/A converter.
Where is the signal of your monitor sound coming from? From the Presonus Main outs or the studio out/ monitor out @ your board? And how do you record your drums when you only have one drum bus going on @ your board. Or do you record your drums directly from the presonus ?
+Maikel Zweers obviously his monitors are from the output of the desk, he can pan solo and mute. its just the inputs for the console that the presonus gives.
+Maikel Zweers Yep, MrGamegast is right. In this video I monitored directly from the console. However, you can also monitor from the Mixdown track in the DAW. Have a look at this video: czcams.com/video/juxQkhiJ2vE/video.html
It's interesting that you have your drums on a stereo track and 2 sets of BVs. It leaves you very limited in what you can do to your drums. You may have to visit your kick or snare, or balancing in the kit once you get the overall song going. You essentially are giving yourself more flexibility for a background part of a song and limiting yourself on a MAIN section of the song. So I'd suggest submixing the BVs to one stereo track so you can at least get kick snare and then the leftovers. Also you rape that solo button! haha Sometimes you may make too small of movements in solo or possibly even make wrong moves entirely. If something seems a little too dark or bright, sometimes even +/- 1 db can help. For instance, you did so much work in solo and left a lot of low end in your tracks. You should give more attention love to high pass filtering. The lead vocal, in particular, had a good chunk of low end blocking the low end as well did the bass. I know we're hearing from a mic, but in relation to everything else going on and the fact the quality isn't terrible I know that's not the case. It sounds great! But learning to do these moves in context and not being afraid to HP will skyrocket your work! ;) Awesome video, it's definitely interesting watching someone in action and not doing a boring ass walkthrough that has absolutely no value.
+Jinjer 93 Hey, thanks for your input! Good points! That's only the drum bus on the console. The individual drums were all mixed ITB. Yes, I often use the solo button, but I always check back with the full mix. Also keep in mind that the audio in this video was recorded with the camera mic ;-) Thanks for watching! Btw, here's the final version of the song if you are interested: zedmarty.bandcamp.com/album/zed-marty
LBmusic Well, I assumed you had some processing in the box as well, but if you had to tweak settings, or ride down a little on the overheads, having that option at your fingertips makes for a better convenience than having to click back over. I mean, in my head that's how it makes sense to me. I also stated the camera mic too. :P Hey awesome song, though! Your voice is very Greenday, not entirely but your delivery and attitude. Everything sounds pretty static and flat-balanced. Whether it's squashed or just lack of critical automation, you'd know the answer to that and that's the make or break when someone who doesn't care a single bit about Eq/compression, aka the listener. It's very well written, produced and mixed (the highs are a bit abrasive, but that can be fixed with just lowering the volume) but the only advice is to really show some love to automation. Once you compress, and sum and compress and print your mix, then compress/limit on the master balancing becomes crutial not only because certain elements being louder or quieter, but say when the guitar solo came in, it didn't deliver emotionally what you poured into it, it was just 'remove vocal, insert guitar' almost flatlined and no real difference. So minute moves like lowering crashes if you have hotter overheads for a tight sound would make the work easier on the final limiter, in turn letting in work in the songs favor not reacting to something meant to provide support. Overall, though, I really like that! None of this was negative feedback by any means. Hell you do a hell of a lot better job than I do, it's just real easy to critique things because I understand how it all works, but being 'the guy in the chair' phoo. My perspective is whack, yo. haha! Again, awesome music man I'm really digging the vibe. Make us cry over that music rather than be amazed at your mix though! ;)
Jinjer 93 Glad you like the song! You are actually not the first one who said that my voice is a little "Greendayish"! Funny :) I get your point with volume automation. It really can bring a song to life and I use it a lot more nowadays.
Hey brother, Can you help me please? I have the same unit (its a second hand unit), and i have some ideas on how it works, but i don't know to configure the mixer like yours that when you press the SOLO/PFL button of one channel (Ex:CH24), the output sound will be that channel only. How did you do that? Is that sound coming from channel 24A? or from channel 24B/tape return? and also, where did you take the output? main mixA? B? Studio? CtrlRM? or which output? I want that configuration, Thank you very much. By the way, I don't have AD/DA converter and I don't do recording, I'm just using it for live band, and i really want to know how to output (Actual sound) one channel only using SOLO/PFL.
Hi! The outputs of my converter are connected to the Tape Returns, so I have the "Flip" button pressed. B-channels go to A-channels. In record mode I monitor from Main Mix and when in mixing mode I monitor from 2-Track. I have a Stereo channel for that in the DAW with input of the Main Mix and output to the 2-Track. Check out my 4 part hybrid mixing series where I explain my whole setup. First video here: czcams.com/video/10Q01Ko-6Es/video.html
I have already watched hybrid parts 1 to 4 since last week, there are lots of ideas I got from your videos, thank you very much dude.
So, here's your set up:
1. Your channels' direct output go into the A/D front,
2. Your main mixA output go to A/D front also
3. Your DAW main mix, go back to D/A then to 2-track input.
4. Then channels from the rear of A/D D/A go back to tape returns.
In your video "Hybrid Mixing Part 4: Recalling the Mix", time 7:44 / 12:04, when you press the SOLO of channels 1 (drums) (that's what I need to learn), And that's coming from tape return with FLIP button pressed? so tape return/channel 1B/2B go to Channel 1A2/A right?
i tried to feed 3 different cellphones/music inputs to return channels 25,26,27, then i pressed the flip button of these three channels, . now when i press the solo button of channel 1/25, i still get sound coming from 2/26 and 3/27, -_- im jealous with your set up. haha. how to mute 2/26 and 3/27 without pressing their mute but just by pressing solo of 1/25? 😭
Do you monitor from Main Mix? Make sure you have Mix-B not activated in the Monitor Section. Press the Flip button at the Top of the channel strip. In the Mix-B section of the channel strip, de-select the Source switch, so it's in the out position. Also press the Source switch on the Meter Bridge if you have it.
+LBmusic i finally got it, haha thanks dude, i depress the mixb on the monitor section and it works exactly what i want. thank you very much.
So the fire studio has individual outputs for each individual track to plug into an analog console line in?
yes exactly. In my case I have 3 Firestudios giving me 24 Outputs.
I'm running my actual setup in a similar way,by my interface outputs via patch bay in the single channels of my desk but I only got 10 outputs, how did you got 24 separate outputs sources? I'm buying the same mixer and I wish I could use all the channels as you do :D
+Jacopo Lando 3x Firestudio Project = 24 analog outputs. You can daisy-chain them, up to 4 units.
I've seen your video about basic routing, it's insane how versatile this mixer actually is, what about if I put a preamp in the aux send in order to have it sent to all of the channels?
I will definitely go for this kinda setup for my studio thank you for sharing your knowledge all across the community, subscriber earned
+Jacopo Lando thank you! Well there are no rules of course, but Aux sends are usually designed to feed FX units. You can also use them for headphone monitor mixes for example.
Hi I have a question i Noticed that I have all my equipment hooked up wrong Because you was using a DBX mic preamp.. But you are controling your vocals from the DBX and i want to connect minds up like your set up I need help can you help me I appreciate it if you can I'm a new engineer learning the game
+manmann lee hi, sure I can help! Do you mean the dbx in the first slot in the rack or the second one. The second one is a Alesis compressor and I run my vocal parallel through it. It is connected with an insert cable to one of the group inserts.
Thanks for getting back I prescient that
witch interface did you have vor this setup ?
Presonus Firestudio Project, 3 of them in cascade mode
what are your drum bus compression settings?
+Drumstrocity depends on the material, but usually somewhere around -1 to -4 gain reduction. Ratio 2:1, slow attack, fast release.
LoudBox Music thank you so much!
Apa judul lagunya
Why didn't you capture the main left and right channels so we could hear the mix clearly? hahaha
i would like this console if it had motorize faders
Pielo Deejaay yes, that would be great! Something like the Allen & Heath GSR24M, although that console is a little more expensive. Maybe ask Behringer if they have something similar coming up :-)
hi, i've a question for you man..How do you plug the converter and pc?
+Mad Studi0s Computer -> Firewire -> Converter -> Outputs -> Console Tape Returns/Inputs
+LBmusic so your converter have firwire input/output?ps I love your studio..;)
Mad Studi0s Thanks! Yes, the converter is connected via firewire to the computer. The Outputs at the back of the converter are connected via standard 1/4" audio cables to the console.
+LBmusic Hi, can i also do the same setup with a soundcraft 32-8? thank you
the model is soundcrfat spirit 32-8
What do you think about Behringer SX4882? Thank you for your videos!!!
+Renato Poveda Hey! I didn't have the chance to test it but as far as I know they changed the EQ and the Preamps slightly - which is great. I don't use the Preamps on the MX8000 very often, because they don't work very good with Gain hungry microphones. They get quite hissy at 40dB upwards. The board itself is fine for mixing, you get a lot of features for the money!
LBmusicexperience Appreciate so much for your answer, your workflow inspire me look for a hybrid mixing, sound is different, plugins are great but with a analog console results a better sound. Ths...
Renato Poveda No problem mate!
were you recording it to that little tape?
Drumstrocity yep
LBmusic how'd you connect that?
+Drumstrocity Main Mix out from the console to Tape inputs and back to the converters.
Hey man,. what console are you mixing on?
+Yannickl96 Behringer MX8000, 1. version
how happy are you with it? When I finish my degree I want to build a hobby studio an I'm looking for a nice console that won't cost me my year's salary as a CS
+Yannickl96 I‘m quite happy, I have it now for about 4 years. No problems so far. The preamps are not the best as they don‘t take gain hungry mics so well, but as long as you have outboard pres this is no issue. But the routing possibilities are great, especially the subgroups and all the inserts. Overall it‘s a very clean and neutral sounding board. You may also look at second hand Soundcraft or Allen&Heath boards, they are quite affordable now.
Thank you for your replay, mate! I'll take that into consideration!
+Yannickl96 no problem!
Hi i need analog system
