I gotta catch up on these headphone videos, because strangely enough through all trials and tribulations I keep landing on the same things you own as the best stuff and value the same plugins you like. I think I may have pretty close hearing to you. I even landed on the same Sennheisers. Would be nice to have your room in the plugin! Maybe someday ?
    I don't really know what to think about this kind of plugin. If I need to work with someone on an other pc and if that person does not have the plugin, that will change the sound I have in mind if working on a daily with the IVS.
    I like so much the sound of my HD650, I know them pretty well and feel very comfortable about referencing with other tracks. Just taking it away and I have the same sound everywhere.
    Maybe using IVS as a reference, to activate at some point to check as the same way we check in our car or whatever. Not sure about mixing and mastering with such a plugin.
    Anyway, just a matter of taste I guess ?
    Great video tho, love the honest reviews like these.

    QUESTION: I know that studio monitors (and a treated room) are the better way to go for mixing, but I wanted to know if a good pair of open back headphones (like the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro) with correction software for producing beats and basic mixing could be used forever? I may also get a budget pair of monitors (like the Presonus Eris 3.5) only for refencing, and not mixing if I an doing a session with other people.
    I only plan on producing beats (with some level of mixing involved), but I don't plan on doing mixing professionally.

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  Pƙed 2 lety +3

      Definitely, I have to say that more than half of the producers/beatmakers I work with do produce in headphones, I myself start productions in headphones many times, usually because when the ideas hit, I really don't need to turn on a full blown mixing/mastering studio but yes, for production and basic mixing that is totally a viable solution

    Slate VSX offers the same rent to own option. I would love to compare them. I heard some examples of VSX and even with the wrong headphones it sounds pretty good, plus you have more than just studios to compare and check your mix (club, car, different headphones). My worry is that these headphone compensation profiles vary so much from different manufacturers using same the headphones (sonarworks, realphones, siena...), while VSX headphones are designed for that exact plugin... and it's 400$ WITH the headphones.

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      It depends, do your mixes not translate because of your monitoring system? If so, maybe. It is the monitors? The room? Can you improve any of them before getting one of those things?

    • @123ATank
      @123ATank Pƙed 2 lety

      @@mixbustv thanks man, as far as I can tell, the monitors seem to be pretty flat, my room has horrible phase cancellations in the lower frequencies especially. A few mid frequencies get cancelled, but not too much. My mixes seem to translate pretty well except for the sub and low mids and mids which after doing a few checks with different monitors and systems, I can usually get them dialed in pretty well. I just want to EQ to make up for my room acoustics which is mostly untreated. I don’t have enough knowledge to know what I’d need to do to fix the room so I figured a good starting place would be room correction SW.

    Anyone looking for Headphones for mixing/editing work and whatnot, and want something different/better than the Sennheiser 650's/600 series try the Audeze LCD series out. Now the LCDX's are THE HEADPHONES TO BEAT! They are seriously the best sounding mixing/mastering/editing headphones and I'm not the only one saying that. So obviously do your own homework. And yes Headphones have their own problems, and NO headphone or speakers are completely flat. But what I've learned over 25yrs in the industry is that when looking for new headphones that you want to be relatively flat, you want headphones that their tolerances are within 2db in the dips and hills of their frequency response! Cause every headphone will have dips and hills in their frequency response, but you want the smallest values in those dips and hills! For instance a set of can's that has dips and hills that are 8db in variance are not gonna be as good as a pair of cans that has 2db variances for our purposes! So that's what you wanna look for! Not which set of cans has no dips at 80hz or goes up to 50khz or down to hz....blah, blah, blah. You want can's that have lower values between the dips and hills! And Audeze, as a company, have this down pat versus other companies IMO! So as a starter headphone my personal recommendation would be the LCD1's by Audeze. Hell I'd even recommend their gaming headsets as well! But if you can swing it go the LCD-X's open back for mixing/editing! Closed back for singing vocals and whatnot for recording! Not closed for mixing if you can! I'm not too sure about these types of software. Not a huge fan myself but...to each their own! But I do know that certain ones, work better on certain headphones! Not 1 program works 100% excellent on every headphone! For Audeze LCD1's the program from Toneboosters works better than Sonarworks and whatnot.

    I currently have 2 pairs. Seinheisser HD 280 Pro and Audio Technica’s M40X. I bought the 280 pros cause they say you can really hear what a normal listener would hear and that it’s a flat headphone. M40x’s have a little bass on them, more for just hearing music casually on them I guess.
    But my questions are which one out of those 2 would you mix on if you had to pick? And what are some better upgraded headphones to mix on if I wanted to upgrade but still on a budget? Thanks and sorry if my typing was a little confusing 😂

    Dude: you seem to be on top of your data, - would love to have you on top of me! Was looking for good headphones and then I started to drool. You are very distracting!!! I think I would buy anything you’re pushing!!!

    What about just buying a really nice set of headphones in the first place (like Focal Clear MG Pro) and calling it a day. I'm not quite sure what the point is of trying to emulate some other studio or other headphones. Call me Captain Cynical if you'd like, but just because you can sorta hear what it sounds like in Echo Bar studio won't do you a damn bit of good with your own mix. I'm a "gear whore" as much as anybody, but this seems illogical and gimmicky. You're never going to become confident with your mixes if you're constantly changing your monitoring source. Learn...your...gear...and stick with it. My humble opinion.

      Hopefully it's obvious to everyone, including Mr Gnozzi, that when I use the word "you" I'm not talking to the host of this video. I'm addressing the folks reading it.

      Who said I hate mixing on headphones? I don't NEED to mix on headphones because I have half mil room and monitoring system. Missed that part?

    Sorry but the r70x are better overall, better balance, better for vocals.

      "Sorry but the R70X are better" Title of the video: R79X. Makes sense lol also a pair of headphones better for vocals, that's a first 😂

      @@mixbustv reason im saying this cause some people think the HD600 are better. but from what i hear is they are good for sound stage.

      I have the hd600 and they've been my absolute fav headphones for over a decade. Headphones are like monitors, at a certain (quality) point, it's a matter of preference. We all hear differently
