If you're interested, I recommend you watch "a deep dive into mordetwi".
MordeTwi didn't _just came out of nowhere one day,_ it got made infamous/popular in late 2011 to 2012 after a fanbase for it was formed; especially made infamous when, much later on, _that drawing_ started making rounds - which is what this meme/trend was mostly based on.
