The wall being vertical isn't the biggest problem for a solar panel. It would decrease the efficiency, but not as much as the fact that the sun travels East to West, and the wall will be South facing.
If you told someone this story...they wouldn't believe you. America......heading for the dark ages.....again.

No, it has more to do with automation / robotics, and the fact that practically every other form of power generation is more efficient than coal.
mondovb Firstly the Fukushima disaster only occured because of a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and one of the most damaging Tsunamis and didn't do all that much damage either.
And let's not forget the Chernobyl incident occured under the rule of the USSR, one of the most tyrannical countries ever to exist, infamous for not caring about its citizens. It was easily avoidable and only occured due to no regulations or safety. Meanwhile FFFs have the potential to kill millions through drought, flooding and hurricanes. So yeah, I'd take nuclear energy over fossil fuels any day of the week.

The solar wall facing the ramp into Mexico could work? Easy out option, but, surely it would be one hell of a width to get it to 20ft+ in height? Esp. with a 15 degree incline or whatever panels are placed at for effiency. Maybe a solar array fixed to the wall so they are tilted but the wall is vertical. The best part is not, that the wall won't have much space for Solar Panels but, that Solar Panels aren't very efficent in heat. The key element is light. Not heat. They might be more efficent on a sunny winter day than on a hot summer day.

So Daily Show didn't do any research into this? Because solar collector walls are already a thing. They utilize something called a Sunflower shelf, where the panels are on a mechanical swivel that is motorized and allows the panels to move so they're always facing the sun, like how sunflowers turn to face the sun throughout the day.

There's no such thing as a "solar wall." It's a wall, with solar panels built ONTO it. The wall is going to cost whatever it costs, regardless -- plus the extra cost of building/installing the solar panels. If the energy generated from the panels is enough to pay for themselves plus dig into the cost of the wall as well, then he should be installing these panels whether there's a wall or not.
Except, where does the energy from the panels actually go? To whatever power company builds and maintains them, obviously. So, best case scenario, that energy provider gets paid by the government to make something that gets them a bit of extra electricity, which may or may not result in cheaper electric bills for their customers who happen to live near the border (but probably not). And again, if solar was at the point where it was actually profitable for power companies to see a profit on, they would all be doing this regardless of anything Trump wants.
