I'm really excited about the glaceable widgets and the topo maps however it sounds like it's going to be pretty lacklustre at this point in time (cant save maps directly to the watch, can't use topo maps/navigation for mountain biking, cant load your own GPX files, cant have navigation within the workouts app etc) but it is a step in the right direction and shows that Apple has the intention to make it a proper activity watch so even if this iteration isn't perfect, it should eventually get there. Cant wait to try it when the public beta is released.
Great video. As a cyclist I was excited about the power meter feature. I have a bike with blue tooth electronic shifting so I'm wondering will this work on my Apple Watch SE? Do you need to have a later version of the watch? If it does work, how is it accessed? Thank you.
One burning question 🔥 Can we assign different Action Button functions via Focus Modes ??
Did they have any comments around battery life for the apple topo maps integration at wwdc? I loved the work outdoors app and I'm excited apple is finally adding that feature, but 1-2 hours kayaking or a long hike would kill my watch.
the question is there : what will be my next watch ? Garmin forerunner 265 or apple watch series 9 ? I'm just doing cycling every day, walking like everyone else and some swim stuff but I love health data ... and also battery xD
Thanks, great news. I am looking for training readiness, load, recovery time
Nice, was hoping you'd do a video on this. I'm guessing this wouldn't be enough to get you to switch from garmin for your main watch? That being said, it's hard for me to not recommend aw to people running 50k- now.
Great video! I’m torn. I have a Fenix 5X Plus that is no longer reliably charging. I had my eye on the Enduro 2 but now these two options seem great too.
Seems like apple will be adding full maps soon as you will be able to at least download maps offline to your phone which should transfer over to the watch. I’ve really enjoyed my Apple Watch ultra so far. It does everything I need it to do and I charge it ever 3 days or so which isn’t a big deal to me. Covers as my daily (hospital work) and a fitness app I can use with great accuracy. Excited to see where they take the watch.
I trained and competed with Garmin as a triathlete for 5 years, last year gave the Apple Watch ultra a chance… sold my Forerunner 955, and not going back. Apple needs to step up the health app, with things like recovery time, and gear. That’s it, everything they just added is fantastic, and surely they have more things to show later this year with the next Ultra. Good job with this video, thanks!
Yes it's so much believable.
And Apple has to improve battery life by 10 to 20 the time.
You got me excited, even though I don't have an AW/AWU 😂
Love these new features. The potential to not need to buy a bike computer is very interesting. I’ve been avoiding getting one for a while now lol
Personally I enjoy the tech stuff, that was how I found the channel. But I've found myself enjoying your running videos too recently. Keep doing you though man. Love your work.
Great video. Can you tell me where you purchased the yellow band and case for your watch? It looks great.
The yellow band in this video is the Yellow Apple Ocean band. There's no case on the watch it's just the Apple Watch Ultra. Hope that helps!
Do you know a way to add or remove old racer routes. I started mine a year ago and they are short compared to the routes I ride now, and would like to extend or make new ones, but can find a way. Any Ideas? Could you ask Apple?
Hi - are you still taking AG One?
If so why or why did you stop?
What's the software version on the latest Epix Pro? The normal Fenix 7 and Tactix 7 got the 13.22 a week ago.
Can only view metrics on the iPhone for the cycle workout app
Jay,
Yes, your topo maps are downloadable for the Apple Watch. Hopefully like you said the maps app would let you plan a hike using trails and way points on the topo maps. My question is are the maps going to be a regular layer you can pick from like Explore ,Driving,Transit and Satellite? I’m hoping this is across all devices. It would be nice if they had a nautical map layer too as well. When you get the beta for the Watch,I hope you will make a video with a full explanation of the new topo maps. Thanks for a great video.
From what I understand the maps will be stored within your phone, not on the watch which is kind of a bummer. It means you'll need your phone for your watch maps to work. I'll have more follow up content around this once the public beta is available as of now it's still in developer release.
5:00 is it safe to breathing all that fiber from he insulation? I workout downstairs as well and put plastic up, I can get a small film of fiberglass over everything if plastic isn't up
Can't wait to finally have offline maps from the main os
Would be nice if rowing on workout app registered strokes
I was just about to go back to Garmin. I missed my sensors.
Great run down thanks, what I want to know though is if the iPad getting the health app means I can actually connect a watch to it and not need to have a iPhone to use it.
You're not alone. I will be testing that as soon as possible!
Oh Dave … why NOT Snoopy is the question. I may be incorrect, but I believe people are saying the offline maps will be on your phone and then the watch can use them. Kinda defeats the purpose of not bringing a phone. Baffles me that WorkOutDoors can easily implement such an important feature, but Apple lags this far behind (or doesn’t care?). Thanks for the video!
Help… guys…. Do you know how to read blood pressure with Apple Watch series 8??? They will include it? Or not?
What about CZcams? I’m tirof seeing the same face ( Forward, play , Rewind ). We need a MAJOR UPLIFT on that CZcams App for Show. Will it be a CZcams update?
In my opinion you can’t install offline topo maps on the watch and it’s only available for hiking. You can download maps on your phone and the AWU needs a connection to the phone. This is disappointing. Maybe they fix in 2024
I just switched back to Apple Watch a week ago from Garmin after around a year. I was glad they are moving slowly to where Garmin are as a Sports Watch. However, they are still way behind with there watch battery. One thing that really got me excited was the Apple Watch and IPhone integration on the bike which you went in this video, really looking forward where they will take this with other applications.
idk if they will ever catch up because its a smart watch.......
@@TheMCEagles a smart watch that has a more optical hr and sleep tracking than a garmin.
@@30mattdavies well yes exactly... and does 100 other things that a Garmin doesn't... it's gonna be quite a while before the battery life can come even close to a Garmin.
Stop expecting Apple Watch to have battery life of Garmin watches, you wouldn’t expect Garmin watch to be able to pick up a phone call or as a remote to take a photo like Apple Watch could, one is a smart watch with sports utilities, another one is a sports watch with smart functions, when will people finally realise that
Not a very good battery but Apple Watch does the most important things much better: GPS and Heart Rate precision. Garmin is terrible.
As an AW Ultra user who enjoys the benefits of a smartwatch at work (hospital) and a fitness watch on the trails/road, I was really hoping for bigger news. It’s baby steps in the right direction (trickle-approach to software updates) but is it enough to stave off my desire for an Epix Pro? Not sure. I feel like more will be revealed as it gets close to September/October. Fingers crossed.
Unfortunatelly whapple is all about baby steps and their own interpretation of users' needs.
It’s been baby steps ever since the original AW with regards to proper sports and fitness features and this update is one of the bigger updates they’ve done in this field so I wouldn’t hold out hope for much more before this time next year. As a Garmin Fenix 6 owner I’m on the fence as to what my current watch will be replaced by but if I my watch broke today then I’d buy another Garmin. You shouldn’t need to buy the Ultra model to get passable battery life (my 4 year old Fenix 6 still has better battery life than the Ultra) and I’d like to see Apple introduce some equivalent of the training load/recovery metrics that Garmin do (although if they released a standard Apple Watch with 5 day battery life then I’d overlook those features)
@@valdius85 but yet they produce a more accurate watch than a dedicated fitness watch provider… android not even in the picture and garmin can’t even sleep track properly or get a decent optical hr sensor lol
@@30mattdavies
Fair points actually.
Just FYI Foothpath is an amazing app for all things routes and hiking. 🤠
So, this new topography map isn’t available yet, right? Because I was lulling myself trying to find it. Lol.
It seems that way.
1- Can i have my iPhone and Apple Watch in different interface languages.
2- is it okay to have cantacts names in the two devices in two different languages.
They were actually pretty clear, in both the documentation and later videos, the offline maps will require your phone to be with you. So not fully downloaded to the watch, but still pretty cool. Not good for a run without your phone, but usually when on a hike or trail run outside of cell coverage, you would have your phone.
Seems silly considering how much storage these watches have. Hopefully they can change that down the road!
@@ChaseTheSummit I agree. Doesn’t seem to be a technical limitation. Maybe it’s a licensing problem, they do use others data. Hope they figure it out.
I was hoping for some new information, or your experience with it. At least trying some demo or beta version
Unfortunately there's an NDA in place on WatchOS 10 so you won't find any real "hands on" information on CZcams unless someone decided to break the rules. Stay tuned... Lots of follow up content to come!
Love Snoopy 😊😊
The apple ultra wil always be behind the garmin fenix 7 because of its battery life and it’s simple GPX capabilities from map apps onto the watch.
Being able to follow a route on the fenix 7 is an essential for hikers like myself.
You can achieve this with third party apps like WorkOutdoors but it’s still not quite on the same level when it comes to navigation.
If you have little kids that Snoopy watch face will be a much needed Godsend!
I would really like to buy a rugged Apple watch. The Ultra is just a fancy watch, I mean an actually rugged smartphone.
will have more from this version or this is all what have ios 10
There’s lots of other features these are mainly related to the sports and fitness updates.
only interested in a built in glucose monitor lol
Is Topo available for UK users?
Not yet, it will expand over time though.
10:58 thats gonna come out next year I feel like
Definitely an interesting release from Apple. Will it be enough? 🤔
The go to bike computer, it will come🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I really wanted recovery metrics.. 😓 sticking with Garmin!
They’re not accurate anyway, once you understand the algorithm
@@30mattdavies the recovery metrics? Garmin’s metrics are, even if it is an algorithm. Not sure about your workout routine, but I think my recovery/workout stress is fairly easy to compute based on HR and pace and sleep… I just want my watch to do it for me
Have you use athlytic with an Apple Watch? Pretty good, basically turns it into a better whoop imo
Yeah I had to get a separate app for this. Fortunately it was recommended on this channel actually lol
@@smashthem1 personally I found Athlytic to be really inconsistent. I find the Garmin algorithms to be much better and more consistent.
Can you connect a spinning bike to the watchos10? so you can get cadence and speed native in workout app? And not only outdoor use.
That would be awesome. I'm sure it's something in the works considering their investment in Apple Fitness.
Great question, I'm in the process of installing the developer build and I'll be sure to test that!
@@ChaseTheSummit give us a shout out what u figure out! I have a Yeaoul S3 apinning bike, that bike sends every detail from my ride to every other app. But i want the native to work with it😄
My biggest question with TopoMaps on the ultra similar to Chase is the offline accessibility. The offline maps is the only reason that I get Garmin over Apple, id be really interested if apple made maps accessible offline
I mean if you workout and are a runner there are multiple reasons why you would pick garmin over apple
@@dnice362 not really lol.
@@Ryezn5057 explain
@@dnice362 exactly, they will never b able to explain.
Sadly so many news are for the US only. Live in Norway, and so many functions are not available.
I'm sure it will come to you in due time. Typically they start in the USA and expand after that. Thanks for watching.
Not the weirdest thing is I have the Apple Watch Series 5 when I ride e scooter my Apple Watch thinks I’m working out but the reality I’m just standing on a scooter, pushing down the throttle and showing me that I’m burning calories and it’s telling me that it looks like I’m working out in reality. I’m just standing on the scooter in the scooters, doing all the work for me, I’m barely moving except the scooter and it’s telling me that I’m working out so I don’t know if the Apple Watch is accurate with Fitness including bicycles it might actually under or overdo it most likely over do it
You do realize that the new SOS icon in the Hiking Map leverages Satellite and not cellular communications as mentioned.
From what I understand it leverages ANY means of making an emergency call. That could be cellular, or using satcom.
It is just cellular connection. Not satellite
Interesting. If Apple continues to add more useful features year after year, which I expect they will do, without having to upgrade the hardware, the watch will become much more useful. Now I’m really curious as to what the new model will have later this year.
When are the top maps going to show up???
If you're in the USA they already have!
Not around Mount Mitchell in NC@@ChaseTheSummit
I looked around the USA and its appears Apple only has topographic maps for out west, not he east. Any idea when we might get them? Its kinda one of the main reasons I bought he watch ...
All I want is a one button physical lap button
Great video BRO. OFFLINE MAPS should be HUGE we need it so badly Google maps does this and that’s why I have it still in my phone 📱 Apple please 🙏 fix this. @apple
4:59 Dude, cover that insulation with sheetrock! Insulation dust is deadly.
Only deadly if disturbed. The ceiling isn’t touched so the fibers stay in place. Very common building practice here in the North East.
Garmin still way better.

Much appreciated!
The problem with using your phone as a cycling computer is the heat the phone creates as well as when full sun is on the display. It will overheat.
Yes, It's the wrong type of ($1000) display to have bouncing around on your handlebars. If it doesn't overheat it will still smash the battery life because peope will want to leave the display on, and full bright.
That's why he specifically said you can choose a cheap phone for that task.
I don't even care if the maps are routable, I think it's crucial if they'd support GPX import and showing that while hiking / trail running (plus things like distance to / from, elevation profile.). You don't even need a map for that. It doesn't even have to show anything, just the GPS breadcrumbs. This is honestly the only thing that still keeps Garmin on my wrist.
There’s lots of apps that support that functionality like WorkOutDoors.
@@ChaseTheSummit But do you get for example same battery life out of it, if you use 3rd party app? It feels kind of weird tbh to have to rely on an app to get such a basic stuff...
"Oh boy..." a 13 minute advertisement, brought to you by Apple.
So why can't Apple allow the ability to add TEMPERATURE to the Apple watch workout screen? Maybe in Cupertino this isn't important, but in AZ it is. This is the 10th OS version. Its time.
I stick with Garmin. Ordering the new Epic Pro
I like the features that were announced but i was expecting something even more
7:10 sport? 😏
Charles M. Schulz has ties to Sonoma County. macOS is named Sonoma. I think that’s why they did Snoopy watch faces.
Well there ya go!
Imagine getting an Ultra because you’re an elite athlete then having to pay a monthly subscription to use the calendar feature… then realising that it’s stock on the cheapest Garmin that is $1K less.
Offline maps super important, can't imagine they'd drop the ball on it basically 2 years in a row ( should of been there when the ultra announced ) I still dislike all the watch faces , to me there either kids faces or suit and tie office workers faces, none to me where useful outdoors , also I don't see any body metrics, body battery etc unless I missed that
BLOW UP ALL THE METRICS💥💥💥
Nothin Apple released with this update got me excited. Only thing I care about is that cellular connection. Everything else I want my Garmin FR955 has 👍
Twice the price of a good cycling computer from Garmin. I'll stick with Garmin.
Is the update out?
Nope. Only available for developers right now.
@@ChaseTheSummit If you are a Public Beta tester may be worth checking as I don't have a developer account but OS17, Watch OS 10 and Sonoma were all pushed to my devices today.
I was perfectly content with my Apple Watch series something old until the Ultra was released. Then I read all the comments about Garmin watches. So I bought a Fenix 7x and it’s the best piece of equipment I’ own. I track my workouts better, track my recovery better, I don’t get lost in the park, and I can find my lost earphones under the bed with the flashlight. I’d like to thank Apple for introducing me to Garmin.
If they it doesn’t have offline GPS then it’s useless IMO
Oh man I’m a union carpenter and runner but seeing your basement or garage.. Dude you need to put something over that insulation. you don’t want to be running with that pink panther insulation just there. Preferably drywall but anything is better than just like that in my opinion.
Haha, yeah I’ve heard this before. In this region the basements are always like this and from what I understand it’s fine unless you “disturb” the fiberglass. We do plan to cover it up soon. It’s a new house… still lots to do!
I’m just glad it’s not another LGHDTV+ update.
For me, Apple has to pimp up their health app and the battery life.
You can’t see why they added the Snoopy watch face but you have no comment or problems with the p;r:ide crap being forced on everyone?!?
Nothing right now can touch the Fenix or epix
As a enduro 2 user I agree 😂👏
I won’t touch one either
I’m all about offline maps but outside of that what does any of the Garmin watches do that’s worth their stupid price. What some gimmick body battery? Lol. They are mostly plastic trash. I’ve owned both and now have neither! Any so called smart watch that a user can’t even reply to a text or take a call on isnt one! Unless one’s health compromised do you really need a watch to tell you your ox level and BP? Just a over priced gimmick for anyone dumb enough to buy into it. The offline maps now that’s a whole other topic!
@@bigmaxcc the watch face is way to big
Mapping is the biggest fail withe the Apple Watch. No built in hiking routing app is terrible vs Garmin. The normal Maps app is always in dark mode. With my eyes unusable. Can’t see a thing. Can’t make out different roads or anything. Why is is it not looking like the iPhone maps app? Big Big Fail.
Apple will kill Garmin and others in near future 😮
Why doesn’t anyone talk about the removal of the app switcher?
So, i dont own anything apple. I will stick with android. Its bad enough i have to charge my phone once a day or day and half. I love only charging my GARMIN 7X SOLAR ONCE A MONTH.
Photoshop? Didn't heard about it.
Ma navigation on apple watch? Didn't seen it.
🤔 Hmm..
Lets make a video.
Thousand words. Zero sense.
Not sure I understand this comment?
Apple Ultra Is A POS! Worst GPS on the market :(. I use the Coros vertix & the POS Ultra. Ultra is waste of money.
The new Watch faces are garbage, trash, stupidly, laziness… I know snoopy commemorates something on Apple Watch but I don’t care. Disappointing. The new cycling updates are cool. They could have work in allowing users to use any data field in any workout… as it is right now I prefer to use WorkOutDoors. The only reason I’m still using my old Apple Watch Series 5 is because I’m a graduate student and hence I’m broke (I’ll be defending my PhD thesis in neuroscience within a month!)… but no matter what my next Watch won’t be an Apple Watch, hopefully a Garmin Fenix 7 pro…. Apple is again and still behind Garmin in almost every regard (physiological parameters, topological navigation, data display, battery, construction… everything except perhaps heart rate sensor). Can you please confirm how the new Garmin Fenix 7 pro and epix pro compare to Apple Watch? Anyone?
They are different watches meant for different things. Sick of people trying to compare them
Apple for people wanna look cool, Garmin for practicality.
@@Dubai892JK weird, my Apple Watch is way more practical day to day than my fenix ever was
In what way? The battery only lasts two days, the maps cannot be downloaded offline and use satellite, and the screen is hard to read in direct sunlight
This is just another guy who talks fast and yells.
? Would this guy ever talk face to face with another person like this? If not, isn’t this sort of blather dehumanising?
Yes he makes me anxious .. slow down🤣
I was in the backcountry at Death Valley a couple weeks ago. While hiking the watch went into compass mode (I was offline) and showed me where my car was 4.5 miles away, great. Well, not so much. It was dark and did not show the forks in the trail I took in. It basically shows you a straight line back to car. Not very useful if there is a hill between you and the car. I hope Apple gets the Topo map thing right this time. They advertise the Ultra going to the desert, high mountains and so on. Are all these places within sight of the parking lot?? New update will tell otherwise here I come Garmin Epix Sapphire Pro!
I call that hellicopter mode. You need a hellicopter to fully utalize it :) A pointer back to your car can be worse than nothing because it lulls you into thinking you have the tools to navigate properly.
After my second Garmin Edge 520 died unexpectedly I decided to try something different - the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt instead of the Garmin 530. Boy! I'm glad I did. czcams.com/users/postUgkxXZCtB-wGdHVTBSz8RswePK5vllHNi06N The display on the Wahoo Bolt is much easier to read. I like the configuration of the display more (up to 7 items visible on page 1 without scrolling and the first item chosen is larger characters than the next 3 rows that have pairs of items (still very readable). I also like the configurable item selections. The Bolt synced with my Garmin ANT+ Speed sensors on both bikes easily so no additional investment was required there. While the rated battery life is a couple hours less than the Garmin 520/530, I easily get a weeks worth of 1+ hour rides before recharging (and it's never really low on charge). At the end of a ride syncing to the Wahoo app, Strava, and Apple Health app is painless.
