"Learn tricks you don't wanna learn" is great advice. I had never learned varial flips because I always saw them as an illegal trick but I just tried them the other day and they were surprisingly easy and kind of fun.

Whenever I felt like I wasn't progressing or I was getting bored with skating it was mostly because of not really learning new tricks, in the early years of starting you never get bored because you have so many new options as basic tricks. I got back into skating earlier this year and I mainly stopped because I wasn't very social but decided to just skate on my own and if I meet new people that's a bonus :)
I usually spend a good amount of time each session trying to figure out something new, obviously I warm up a bit with tricks I'm fairly consistent at then I'll go for around an hour or so trying new stuff out then return to my regular tricks to get confidence back if I didn't get that new trick or if I did, try and work it into a line.

The only rule for skating is don’t be a dick. Everyone starts out somewhere, and not everyone evolves the same speed. There are people who think Rodney, Hosoi, and McGill are lame. Those are the skate gods.

My biggest obstacle right now is essentially fear. Was totally fearless when I was 19. Handrails, blocks, etc were no problem. Took a break to focus on music, came back at 27 and now I struggle to even hop on a round bar or down 7 stairs without multiple run ups. Have no clue what it is or how to break it. Was never like this before I took those years off.

You know I think I really needed these tips, i'm still very new to skating i'm 22 and work alot its hard for me to find time when im not exhausted from work, I've not been skating as much lately I've been stuck on my ollie for a while now mainly getting it while moving but I really like the idea of just learning random tricks to create the muscle memory. Skating is still fun for me its just hard to find time and especially right now with it being 40 degree Celsius+ days

Skate at night dude. I'm in qld and the heat is too real. It's hard after work for sure, smash a banana before you skate, think more about the fuel you need to skate. I'm 30 so it's getting harder to skate with the same intensity I did when I was 22. But food and recovery has made the biggest difference in getting me enough energy to skate after work everyday.

Just cause it flows well doesn't necessarily dictate whether or not it's a kook trick though. Cause what about shuvit tail grab or kickflip roast beef, gotta admit both those tricks have that sorta flow aspect where it works perfectly and easy. For instance if the shuvit rockets a lil it's right there perfect easy for the grab. Same thing with kick roast beef, that particular grab is perfect for catching the board when it flips that direction and flows together nicely. But they still get classified as "gross" tricks and usually not very highly respected.
