    Great to see you again! The doctors told me surfing made a a huge difference in making my heart surgery recovery so much easier (2 years ago now). Just turned 73 and no plans to quit but have to admit I'm not all that good. Still have fun on the smaller or inside Southern California waves. It's all about having fun isn't it? Look forward to seeing more as you're ready to post!

    Love the ONE TAKE shots, so much more honest and off-the-hip than most CZcamsrs. I appreciate that - refreshing. I'm definitely feeling the weight now that I'm late 30s. Early 30s I was right there with you at 210-215 and I've crawled up each year since till now. Definitely got the volume board to compensate - would love to see some videos on training and getting weight down naturally without much gym. I prefer the natural aerobics of activity for sure - I still feel super athletic, but all my weight gain is in my stomach area. The worst for me is denting my board on top with my knees doing bad pop-ups lol

    Seriously appreciate this post. Thanks brudduh for making it real and it seriously hit home.. exactly how I feel..but my major downfall and cause of the weight gain and loss of fitness was a chemical spill I stopped to help for. Took my lungs out..which put heavy strain on my heart, mind and soul..
    I want so bad to get back on the water..if only just to paddle and get at least some exercise..I have always been a water brat.. so this video continues to inspire me. I've been trying to find a board or shaper to build me a long or short board but it's not an easy task I'm 275 now.. and I gotta get my assets in gear..
    Finding a board that has huge volume that's 23' to 28" width without killing you when it comes to adding the volume making it super flippy is a nightmare.. and if I'm going for a nose rider or something fun for myself and my wife I need something that isn't so wide I can't paddle and can handle 430lbs

    Good stuff as always. Over that last 2 years I lost about 27 lbs. I did it through diet change, and surfing more frequently. Since then, surfing stamina has gotten better, I’ve been able to progress in my surf much faster, and overall I feel great. It all starts with diet though, low sugar and low carbs, those two things can’t be hard on the body.

    @kerry9125 Před 3 lety +1

    I can tell by looking at the board when you're paddling, ducking, etc., that it really isn't a high volume board when compared to your weight. I'm guessing you're volume to weight ratio is close to the same when you were lighter. Regardless, I don't agree that experienced surfers will necessarily be happy increasing their prime volume/weight ratio. Higher volume boards are harder to duck and harder to turn, which means less fun if you're used to shredding. I would try a different shape before going up in volume.
    Also, if you're getting older, don't rush out and buy a high volume board because you had one bad day. That's just part of getting old, the next day you might own it again.
    -Just giving y'all a little different perspective.

    Knees and hips are problematic for most guys over 50. Static weight stimulates cartilage growth but bending to much under load can do more damage.
    You're never too old to surf but don't be ashamed to ride a log.

    Drinking is way better than surfing nowadays. Big floaters are easier too just done in the crapper!
