So I think the takeaway here is that co-wash is an alternate form of moisturizing your hair not an alternate way to cleanse it. My hair loves co-washing, but I never use it as a substitute for my weekly wash and deep condition. If it works for you, then keep doing it, but cleanse your hair frequently. If it doesn't work, just stick to the LOC method of moisturizing.
Anyway, I always love these videos. They're so informative

I really love this video alot. I think alot of people have issues with co washing because they're litterally using regular rinse out conditioners to cleanse their hair but I recommend anyone who wants to co-wash to use an actual co-wash cleanser that is formulated to lightly cleanse the hair and scalp because it won't build up on the strands like it would if you use a regular conditioner that's not meant for cleansing impurities and oils.

But after these last 7 years of not cowashing and waiting for one day to wash my hair, my hair breaks and never grows. So I'm back to cowashing. Crazy how everybodys hair reacts diff! The closest I ever got to cowashing in the beginning of my natural hair journey was mixing a conditioner with my shampoo. Later on in my journey I would switch to use the coconut cowash from As I Am. Honestly, my head would be itchy after four or five days so I set up a routine to cowash biweekly and shampoo biweekly. Of course, that was when I was desperate to hold moisture in my color treated hair before I big chopped. I think I'll only cowash again once I get my routine on deck, or if I don't use heavy products.

I used to wash my hair every week but now it’s every two weeks because my hair felt brittle every week after washing. This video was very informative. I tried co-washing when I first started wearing my hair in its natural state. I didn't like it because I have overactive scalp that needs to be cleansed weekly. It just felt like there was gunk on my scalp. Also there was no noticeable difference in the moisture level of my hair. So now I just clean my hair with a sulfate-free shampoo, use a rinse out conditioner (usually from the same line of products so that I can maintain the pH levels) and deep condition for 20-30 minutes every wash day. Then I use the LOC or LCO method for styling. If necessary, around mid-week I add a lightweight lotion to add moisture.

Kersha Beaver I tried doing that when I stared transitioning and when I tell you it might not help your hair in the long run. When you do the conditioner first your applying moisture in some way but then when you wash it with shampoo your basically rinsing out your moisture.

I actually put apple cider vinegar in my conditionner (something acidic) when i use conditionner to wash my hair, making sure it strips (??) and leave the least gunk as possible.

For there last couple of days I've been watching these videos and I'm like at an "Aawwwwww". As long as I can remember I would put conditioner on my hair and scalp. Thank you, I will not do that any more. You've shown me within in these few days in how to keep up with my hair then majority of videos I've watched that had me question should I continue with my natural journey. Thank you so much.

  • @GinaJonesStillettoQueen

This is exactly why I use an ACV rinse when I cowash. This actually works for me. But than again that's clarifying the scalp so maybe that's the reason I don't have issues lol

Thank you so much for this video. I've been cowashing with Neutrogena's Triple Repair conditioner for a little while and all of a sudden certain spots of my scalp are very sensitive to the touch. I don't know if it's because of that product or not, but after this video I'll never use another conditioner on my scalp ever again. Shampoo, clay masks, and black soap only.

what about cleansing co-washes that are different to the normal rinse out conditioners. these are said to have surfactants to cleanse your hair.

To be honest I don't like the marketing tactic of calling a product a "Cleansing co-wash". That's an oxymoron. A product is either adding something to your hair or removing something from your hair. It can't do both. So, if you see something labeled "cleansing co-wash" treat it like a very mild cleanser that won't strip your hair. You will still need to use a clarifying shampoo once a while to remove built-up residue once a month or once every 5 to 6 weeks. I hope this is helpful :-)

Green Beauty Channel ™ thanks for the response. I agree that your hair needs to be thoroughly cleanse and one can not simply wash hair with cleansing conditioners only. honestly I use As I Am only about twice a month. the other week I use shampoo or clay. I will look into getting a moisturizing shampoo and phase out my As I am.

I'm glad you made this video because I was considering co-washing this winter. Great advice. My question is what are your thoughts on No-Poo (specifically Deva Curls No-Poo). Is this a cleanser or co-wash? Can it be used in the scalp? Would I need to shampoo at some point?

Hi, love your videos, very informative!
So, I go the gym every morning and naturally my hair will sweat, does this add to product buildup and should I wash it daily ? What would you recommend?

    • @GreenBeauty
      @GreenBeauty  Před 7 lety +3

Sweat is actually really good for your hair if its mixed with your sebum (a.k.a Acid Mantle) and its spread evenly on your hair strands. So after the gym, massage your scalp then scritch and preen your hair to spread it evenly on your hair strands. Here is a link to a video where I show you how to scritch your scalp and preen your hair - czcams.com/video/CrEBRWkPJLM/video.html
And here is a link to a video that goes over what the acid mantle is - czcams.com/video/5gb7mPM_J8E/video.html
