    the formula is
    pressure = force / area
    don is right each segment as to withstand greater force which in theory should propel you further and be super responsive because the force you exert in each segment goes back to you to push you forward

    You are right the small surface area makes each blade absorb two to three times the weight witch means if the rubber is good they should have great traction

    Surface area doesn’t affect friction(physics class). Two reasons why its slippery.
    Less surface area means more friction per blade means more wear per blade means smoother rubber outsoles over time means less friction
    Or the rubber isnt tacky in the first place

    Surface area does not have an effect on friction.Friction is dependent on the material and weight(Fn in this case is weight)

    Hello, I can explain the surface area thing on the shoe. A shoe has grip because of friction, you all know that. Friction depends on mass rather than surface are. Because as one of you said, there will be more mass per square inch. So ur grip (friction) will only decrease if the shoe that you are lighter. Some of you might ask then why do cleats have more traction. On a grass pitch, they dig into the ground and u run faster; it is not related to friction, rather it is related to leverage. It also depends on material, obviously a rubber sole will have better traction than a plastic. So yeah, there you go.

  • @ishaaqxo
    @ishaaqxo Před 7 lety

    My springblades were used for basketball. I say they lasted 2 months. The front blades on the left shoe where it is glued on came off unfortunately. Also like they say in the video, there is no surface area, it is hard to dribble in and out of players. Plus I have nearly twisted my ankle a good couple times just sheerly for the fact of how high they are. I'd say use them as running shoes, not bball. Or just get a pair of Ultra Boosts 😂🤘🏼🙌🏼

  • @XxAssassinYouXx
    @XxAssassinYouXx Před 7 lety +17

    the traction says the same even if it had 100% surface area.
    Because friction is force applied/ weight.
    a block that has a weight of 20lbs and is 5 inches tall and 1 inch wide with a force of 2lbs pushing the block left or right. will have .1 mu (coefficient of friction)
    now let's say a block with the same mass, same height, and same force pushing the block, but it's now 5 inches wider. it will have three same value of .1 because the only thing that matters is the force applied, and the weight.
    surface area doesn't effect anything.
    mu (coefficient of friction) changes on the type of surface you are on and how ruff the object/ surface is.
    let's say your playing basketball on ice mu (coefficient of friction) will be like .01 or whatever, and now let's say you are playing basketball on a nice clean NBA court mu (coefficient of friction) will be much higher, a good thing in basketball, it will need like .3. Because it takes more force to get the object moving. rather on ice it will take less force to get an object moving.

      @andrewgaspar8961 Před 7 lety +4

      but with more surface area, there's more available traction to catch the ground when other parts are clogged with dust

    • @XxAssassinYouXx
      @XxAssassinYouXx Před 7 lety +3

      Andrew Gaspar I knew someone was going to ask this question.
      let's say we are in a perfect world were dust, and small particles of stuff don't exist. everything is easy to calculate.
      now let's turn on the dust particles switch. it's a lot harder to solve for an unknown value of count less dust particles.
      this is true the more surface area you have the more likely you are at attracting dust. and you are able to solve it with a lot of completed calculus.
      I explained it this way because it's easy to get your head around it. when you are thinking to hard, you start to make things more complicated than it actually is.

    • @andrewgaspar8961
      @andrewgaspar8961 Před 7 lety +3

      Lol, I get why you said it, but saying that "the traction stays the same even if it had 100% surface area" just isn't accurate in this case. We don't live in a perfect world where the formulas of physics are always easily calculated, so you can't really use them to explain an everyday phenomena.

      George Rosebush because they last longer :) the higher performance a car is, the more it uses its tires, that's why you see supercars with wide tires and normal cars with thinner ones.. The surface area in any case has no effect on the traction

      Yeah. There was a brand called APL (Athletic Propulsion Labs) that pretty much stole a lot of Nike/Adidas concepts but added their own tech to it and claimed their basketball shoes made you jump higher. The NBA banned it from being used on-court due to the claim.

    traction would not be determined by surface area. the friction would be the same with a 20 foot surface and a 2 inch surface as long as its the same material and pressure. the only things that affect traction would be the pressure on the surface and the material. not surface area
