You getting rid of 'the stranger' and 'the kite rider' gave me a video idea for you!! Maybe you could do a video where you only read books with the same title/almost the same title. So for example read books that all have the word 'stranger' in them, and see if they all have the same theme or not :)
as someone who's seen book series with the first book missing in a secondhand store many times, not once has it crossed my mind the person donating it might have not donated the first book. i always just assume someone bought the first one before i got there
Jack: puts the phrase "ALL" in the title Me before watching the video, horrified at the thought of Jack not having books anymore: JACK NO YOU CAN'T GET RID OF ALL YOUR BOOKS
I mean...it's also his job so that makes it a bit different. Also he gets gifted a lot of books too. I've decided that it's insane to spend that much money on books and just go to the library when I actually want to read something. That's another point, it's nice having a collection but nowadays I get bad anxiety from having all this stuff that I will never use.
Your channels have helped me to make reading a priority in my life, something that it has not been for probably 10 years. You have helped me to escape a years-long reading slump, reading not just when I am "free" during the summers but at night during the week. My life has improved so much over the past few weeks since I found your channel - thank you for your videos, your joy, your knowledge, and thank you for sharing all of them with us!
The Orphanage is one of the most popular books here in Ukraine (especially now). I haven't read it (yet) but the author is a great person, so I hope you'll enjoy it)
Seeing you get rid of The Secret Life of Bees is so sad bc I absolutely love that book! It’s a excellent book set in the civil rights movement that shows how strong bonds can be between both blood and chosen family. My cover in America is so much nicer with just some bees and a honey jar on the front, so maybe look for the American version!
I failed my driver’s license three times. There was a rule that you have to wait for three months if you fail three times but I literally moved to France for Uni a few weeks later. Here we are, 14 years later.
I think what Jack doesn’t know is the hardcover version of ‘Gone With The Wind’ is actually way better than the current paperback version. Maybe the former would change your mind.
You made me feel so much better about unhauling books!! I always feel guilty whenever I have a book and know I will never want to read it but I feel guilty about not giving it a try. It’s sometimes okay to say that this book just isn’t for you!!
I have the whole hitchhikers series in my native language from my mom in a rare but beautfiul 60/70s edition I believe and I recently came about your english versions of the books and own only the first one. Would be interesting to compare the feel now that I am older and having it in the original text and not translated. Something tells me to collect them another voice inside me tells me I do not need another set ugh
as a book lover, reading enthusiast, unhauling my books for the first time was scary. u r right, i started being honest to myself.. i needed more space, i dont want to be materialistic anymore, i need to be smart with my money, and i need to be sure on what i read so that i wont waste my time.. all personal decisions. ive unhauled my 200 books on 2018 and i now purchase (very carefully and thoughtfully) online and read it ebook style. best decision for me
Highly recommend watching the Gone With the Wind movie! It’s on HBO, at least in the states. Also recommend watching Princess Weekes’ video on the book and it’s legacy. As someone who has an emotional connection to the novel but wants to be a mindful reader, that video was a thrill!
Peach blossom spring was one of my all time favs of this year!! I read it months ago & its still sticking w me. Since i started watching The Untamed in 2020 (then every other c-drama i can get my eyeballs on ever since lol) ive been really into chinese culture books as well so this was good timing being the exact kinds of books im actively seeking out 😍
I'm proud of you for unhauling so many books... But we all know that this just means you're gonna buy more books (and might end up getting books you originally got rid of)
Unhauling books is difficult. After many years and household moves, I had to deal with my book situation this way: current reference books, comics (read and unread), my TBR, and books I know I will re-read. I am a habitual re-reader of my favorites and also have a long list of comfort reads to cheer myself up. The move before last, the movers said I had a literal ton of books....
Crying at you giving away Snowflower and the Secret fan, it is a great character study and cultural insight into foot binding. I hope you at least give one of the new books by Lisa See a go, my absolute favorite is the Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane ❤️
I'm genuinely surprised you didn't go to donate all your Dickens books and then get too impatient and end up lighting them all on fire live on camera. Maybe that's the next video... 😂
You should definitely read The Orphanage! Such a great book and for me, it's kind of the time to read these kind of books, that tell the story of what's going on in Ukraine right now. Like, gives you so much perspective but is also really universal like any good book. Such a relief when you put it back to TBR!
your mum chiming in to roast you and then going straight to 'one killer, 13 victims, a million viewers... that can't be the title....' had me in proper stitches lmao
Jack, Do you still keep the books you didn’t enjoy/ didn’t like? Cause I don’t keep anything 3 stars and below. Keeps my space intentional. Especially since I love buying books, no matter how many TBRs I have 😅
I bought my copy of "Secret Life of Bees" from my local charity shop and when I saw the cover I thought to myself " wow, this is really hideous " but I heard lot of good things about the book so I bought it anyway...and I am glad I did 😊
Glad you kept the Orphanage. Haven't read it yet but I still would have questioned everything I thought I knew about you lol. I like that Gone with the Wind cover bc it's like the original movie. But now I can't unsee her looking at me.
Jack’s mum: “perhaps you should read that” ICONIC 😂😭
That was so savage nooo 😭😭😂
I legit cackled at that.
09:22
The way I GASPED when I heard that
I cracked up so hard at that. My whole family looked at me like I lost it.
Jack talking about these books going to new families like they’re kids being adopted is something that’s so dear to me
unhauling ALL my books god you’re so dramatic
I mean we are talking about Jack sooooo
He should have gone to school for drama/theatre because of how dramatic he is (I mean this in the lightest way possible)
😂
😂
the full stop adds so much drama as well 😭
your mum's an ICON please "you should read that" i love her

This is such a cool idea ngl
- Me when I read Normal People, Anxious People and The People in the Trees all in succession lol (they were not the same)
Or just ‘books Jack bought which he thought was another book’
@@user-es7ui5mc1m You should read Ordinary people then lol
watch him run to the charity shop now and re buy these books
It’s nice to see you unhauling books. I hoard like I’m saving literature for when the apocalypse arrives lmao
I will be ready for the apocalypse as well the way I hoard books. 🤣
BRO I WAS LEGIT THINKING ABOUT THIS THE OTHER DAY
Same same
Same! But I also re read my books and unhealthy amount of times.
As we should
as someone who's seen book series with the first book missing in a secondhand store many times, not once has it crossed my mind the person donating it might have not donated the first book. i always just assume someone bought the first one before i got there
Same haha
Alternatively, you spend ages not knowing that there’s a first book.

Jack deciding to keep a book while unhauling is giving very much ME energy & I support it!!
the “perhaps you should read that” from your mum omg 😭

Yes. This 112%

I love it, I'm here for it.
Don’t Cry For Me is SOOO good, glad you kept it and definitely prioritize that one! i really think you’ll like it
Jack’s range of references are just so cool! Not the Keke Palmer reference that so many of us love.
