    --------------------
    Welcome to my video on DX Chogokin Giga Phoenix [DX 超合金 ギガフェニックス] from Seijuu Sentai Gingaman [星獣戦隊ギンガマン]!
    I am back for the second of the weekly videos in December. This time I chose, pretty much at random, to take a look at DX Chogokin Giga Phoenix from Gingaman. Oh boy, lots to say about the toy itself...but I'll get to that in a bit. Gingaman was getting into serious mecha overload territory by the time Giga Rhinos and this hit the scene, so you think they would be just a stand-alone mecha similar to Red Puncher from Ohranger. Eh...nope. Both of these new mecha were five pieces...and they arrived at the same time. How about those Gigawings?
    Giga Phoenix is made up of...
    01. Gigawing 1 ギガウイング 1
    02. Gigawing 2 ギガウイング 2
    03. Gigawing 3 ギガウイング 3
    04. Gigawing 4 ギガウイング 4
    05. Gigawing 5 ギガウイング 5
    Giga Phoenix features firing fists and uses the Gigantic Boomerang [ギガニックブーメラン] as it's weapon.
    OK, so I really don't like this one. Like most of the mecha I own, I bought this one brand new in box to hopefully avoid any issues. I have to assume the color of the plastic is the root of the problem, but this toy is SUPER brittle. I immediately broke something inside of Gigawing 3. No idea what it was... When I opened it up to investigate, some broken bits fell out and now the wings slide in and out with no problem. Success? I had a very hard time getting any of the moving parts to move without feeling like it was going to disintegrate in my hands.
    That's all well and good, but how is the design? Lousy. OK, I'm going to come clean. This wasn't at random. I wanted to get this turd out of the way before I get to Giga Rhinos, which is way cooler. I know technically Rhinos is first...but I could bear to spotlight this depressing mecha right before Christmas. At least, it made me sad. The lackluster design really doesn't do much to salvage the poor quality of this somehow Chogokin toy. It really doesn't have much in the way of intricate details or flair of any kind. I didn't even shoot video of the fists being fired off because they just kinda flop on the ground. I really tried to give this one a shot, but yeah...it really isn't for me. I'm sure someone out there loves Giga Phoenix.
    This was released in the Power Rangers Lost Galaxy line as the Stratoforce Megazord. I can't imagine it being any better or worse than it's Gingaman counterpart. Heh.
    Come back next week for my look at Giga Rhinos. I supposed the cat's out of the bag... Then again, only you and like four other people read the description box so maybe it still is a secret..........

    My sister in law has that toy in her basement, not Gingaman but Power Rangers Lost Galaxy.
    That one.

    I remember having the gold on the chest of Stratoforce Megazord rubbing off with little effort.

      Seems like that would happen. I think that's why they've been moving away from chrome. It only took them forever to figure it out.

      I love chrome on toys, when done right. Sadly toys today that do it, have it in poor quality.

    The thing is some of the Chogokin mechas are very fragile. It's the plastic. Senpuujin broke every other second for me. Same here. The plastic I think have these little gold flakes that put voids in the plastic the weaken it over time. GigaRhino has it but it's less of an issue.

      Really? I actually have three Senpuujins and none of them seem to have any issues. In fact, this is the first DX Sentai mecha to break like this for me. The only other time I had an issue like this was the Nendora from Zyuranger...but that thing grenaded itself far, far worse. Transformers fans pointed out that it likely suffered from Gold Plastic Syndrome.

      I had to buy another dolphine for my senpuujin since mine broke. Hurricanger had some nice mecha but the line is known for gold brittle plastic.

    I have the Deluxe Stratoforce Megazord (the only toy I got from _PR Lost Galaxy,_ btw), and the only place it has die-cast metal is the shoulder-strap bars and the hip joint section. Since it's also a Chogokin figure, does the Ginga Phoenix have die-cast metal anywhere else _other than_ these two areas?
    EDIT: I got Stratoforce Megazord because it was the only one of the four robos that year that I _really liked,_ and I find it quite unique amongst the pantheon of Super Sentai combining robos!

    • @CCLemon99
      @CCLemon99  Před 6 lety +1

      So you're the one guy who likes it. Hahaa. I think I just have something against monochromatic mecha that aren't Galaxymega or Red Puncher. I need colors, dammit! Timerobo is one I never really liked as well.
      Bull Taurus is really cool. I think that might be my favorite of the Gingaman line. That and Gingaioh are the only two that deserve the Chogokin name...except Gingaioh way overdoes it.

    • @EVAUnit4A
      @EVAUnit4A Před 6 lety +1

      Well, I tend to think Ginga Phoenix/Stratoforce Megazord is physically a prelude to Geki Touja/Jungle Pride Megazord, in that it had a fit/trim body profile for a fighter that doesn't have any ranged shooting weapons. If you look at Ginga Phoenix, it actually is quite slim and has a grace to it that is usually ignored in the _Super Sentai Series!_ (Read: Senpuujin Hurrier)
      If it were recreated in CGI, I can imagine Ginga Phoenix would be quite atheletic in its combat style- bouncing all over the place like Yoda on crack.
      Oh, I am absolutely in love with Galaxy Mega/Astro Megazord! A lack of color pallet doesn't get in the way of that shit!
      Yeahhhhhhh, I am _not_ a fan of the mecha from _Gingaman;_ the fact that I bought none of the Megazords that year was the first time I intentionally skipped a _PR_ toy line [a mistake I later ammended by _only_ getting the Dlx Stratoforce and black/gold Astro Galactic Megazord(s)]. That none of the robos combine with each other was a huge turn-off. I _almost_ got the Dlx Defender Torozord, but... no, no.
      EDIT: _Really!?_ You're one of the very few I've come across who _doesn't_ like Time Robo (asside from the fact that the TimeJet Gamma is so similar to the Icarus Hawken).
      PS: You didn't answer my original question.

      (pokes)
      Other than the shoulder straps and hip connectors, is there die-cast anywhere else in this?

    I guess I am one of those 4 who reads the comments. I got this guy at a toy show for 10 bucks, and honestly, the Rhino one is better. Better built, better looking, and it has a better transformation.

    So weird they go out of their way to design these as 5-piece combiners but individually they can't do anything. Seems like an awful lot

    • @CCLemon99
      @CCLemon99  Před 6 lety +2

      Agreed. I think I would have been more on board with Giga Rhinos and Giga Phoenix if there were five parts between both mecha AND they combined together somehow. As-is Phoenix in particular is painfully underwhelming.

    I didn't really care for any of the Gingaman mecha; the Lost Galaxy counterparts didn't appeal to me, either.
    That said, Gigaphoenix was fast...and that's about it. Wasn't there something in Gingaman or Lost Galaxy about the original Seijuu/Galactabeast forms being separated into parts (VERY similar to Go-Lion/Voltron)?

    • @CCLemon99
      @CCLemon99  Před 6 lety +2

      CCLemon99 Having seen the Defender Torozord version for Lost Galaxy (before the Gingaman original) turned me off to that immediately. Only thing about Kurokishi I really liked was the Bolt Riot (aka Magna Blaster in Lost Galaxy); granted, the toy in sword form looks more like a sai than a sword...which ain't all that bad...but that other form is AWESOME, and probably the ONLY pump-action shotgun in Super Sentai or Power Rangers. (Though the Mougyuu Bazooka from Shinkenger/Bullzooka from Power Rangers Samurai kinda comes close)
