    Diagnosis of a persistent overheating issue on a 1998 Kawasaki STX 1100 Jet Ski. I have been in the process of restoring this Jet Ski, and keep finding issues to repair. The ski has been running great, but would start to shoot steam out of the bypass port after about 15 minutes of running in the water- watch this video to see what the issue was and how it can be repaired!

    Absolutely true. People run in shallow all the time though. Newer pumps have a screen built into the inlet. That ski does not..just an elbow at the pump. Not that it would stop that fine sand though.
    Very true..great skis! So great to see it running.

      I can’t believe they used biaxial roving! That hull is so strong it’s crazy! Compared to the Yamaha 1100 the Kawasaki has so much more room in the engine bay to work on things

    That's Crazy! Hopefully that's all the sand and doesn't clog your new hose.

      This time I took the thing completely apart to make sure no more sand hiding out..

      @@JDsWaterWorld Best of luck! Can something like that happen to our skis??

      100% the oil cooler and stator output housing can get all stuffed full of sand the same way…the Ultras DO have a filter block on the pump, but it is very coarse and not designed to filter out sand. If you flush regularly there will never be a build up..my old STX apparently the prior owner was not that good about flushing…

      That’s crazy who would have thought that was the problem good catch! What do you think of the old Kawi ultra 150’s? I prefer to ride my 150 over my 310x it’s just a lot more fun to ride.

      @@JDsWaterWorld Wow! I religiously flush the intercooler and engine after every ride! That is always the chance you take with buying used equipment. Thankfully, you know how to fix everything!! Thanks for the reply JD!

    I still regret selling my 2004 STX-12F. At the time I didn’t have room for 2 skis and a boat. For those that don’t know, the 12F was a 125hp little brother to the 15F. Was made from 2003 to 2007. Best years of the model were 03 and 04 then Kawasaki thought it’d be smart to advance the ignition timing on the ECU which would foul your injectors once you started getting up in hours. So yeah I miss my 2004 12F it was pretty bulletproof. So JD, please get one if you ever find a good deal on one

      12f was a great ski. Probably the most fun "first 4 stroke" of any manufacturer. Actually came out in 2003. I bought one new. Great ski. Sold during divorce. Later bought a used 2007 in 2010. It is still running strong after selling to friends in 2020.

    Hi that's great video, it's a problem I had now, still try to figure out how come it is always over hit with the front engine! And still didn't find out yet! Will double check with all the horses after what's your video now. Also I'm looking for the 1999 Kawasaki stx repair manual, if you can share it! That's would be great!!!! Again thanks for great videos!!!!

      Yes there are many small holes on the gaskets for the head and exhaust, and they can become easily blocked! Check the lines all first and then you may need to check the head, exhaust manifold, and tuned pipe gaskets! Also check the stator housing cooling lines. If the cooling channels are flowing properly, you should be able to keep you fingers pressed against the top of all cylinders while running on the hose. When the cooling system has blockages the front cylinder tends to run hot. Of course also check your fuel mixture and oil lines (if you have them, mine is pre mix) and do a plug chop to make sure it’s not a lean condition due to an air leak or bad stator side oil seal. Email me and I’ll send you the manual

    I just bought the same ski. Took it out it runs great but overheated to limp mode within a minute of use on the water. Got it home and popped the seat and the hose that goes from the top of heads basically above the center cylinder head to the top of exhaust was disconnected.
    Could that be it possibly?

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  Před měsícem

      If a cooling hose popped off then that could be part of your issue..There are lots of hoses you likely need to change and lots of things you need to check it’s a 26 year old ski…many cooling passages susceptible to clogging
