What is your most nostalgic memory of the 2600, 7800, or any Atari VCS? Are you going to smash or pass on this? I'm genuinely curious to hear why, either way!

first saw the 2600 as the sears telegames version in a local sears store as a kid probably around 1979/80, playing air sea battle (telegames version of it) at sears, later we ended up getting one after i begged my mom, remember getting space invaders, missile command and finally asteroids. never had a 7800 because I went the home computer route via C64. this is great because it looks like the og 2600. but this is not original hardware it's a rom dumper with emulation. I understand why they went that route but I will pass because of it, since I have an OG 2600 and symphony cart

My first console was the Colecovision. Instead of purchasing the Atari 2600 adapter for the Colecovision I purchased the Coleco Gemini a 2600 clone console from Sears. I really liked the Gemini console especially the controllers. The joystick and paddle were combined in one controller. This controller actually improved my game play the paddles worked fine but the original paddles are better. As for the Atari 2600+ it’s the console I’ve been waiting for I’ve had multiple 2600 consoles over the years. I enjoy collecting for the 2600 so many great games I still enjoy today!

def smashin on this ;D my favorite memory was waiting in line for pac man on natl pac man day back in 81 or 82 when the game came out, dad and i went to skaggs alpha beta (grocery store) to buy it day one, there was a huge long line, we got the next to last copy for like $50 (which was daylight robbery back then lol) but it brought me so much joy as a 6 yr old with pac man at home, even it was the 2600 version, i didn't care or realize it was any different than the arcade version lol :D still love it

Brilliant video, you covered the 7800 as well, no one else with videos has seemed to bothered. This is a great buy for someone that loves the 7800 as well and more should have been done to promote that system. Its just a shame there is not a way to play 400/800 games as well, if there was this would be a killer system.

    • @NEONBattleBitch

Thanks for watching! Agree the 4/800 would be an incredible add-in. At the very least perhaps sideloading those games will be an option since it runs Stella :))

Great video! The 2600 was my first console. I have been revisiting it a lot via emulation on the Steam Deck. I think this new console is great. I don't have a physical Atari game collection. It's on my radar but not sure if I'm going to get this yet.

I was born in 88 and I got into games via the SNES. Honestly I enjoy the simplicity of the retro games and I really want one of these and build a collection of 2600 and 7800 games

Because, here in Brazil videogames started being sold in 1984, including the Atari 2600 (there were only some clones in 1983) and the Odyssey2, it is very much part of my childhood in the 80's. I believe me and my late brother got one from my parents in the 1984 Christmas, when I was 8, with River Raid and Enduro. It was magical, and I have found memories of this console, much more than the NES, that I played years later, getting mine in 1991 only.
So yes, if this is ever released here in Brazil, I will get one.

I had the atari 2600, then eventually 7800. I totally loved the 7800 and still have it, but I'd like to get this as my CRT TV is old, and I'd like the easy plug in play of this atari 2600+. Food Fight was one of my top 5 games I loved. I was a fan of Dig Dug, Joust, Centipede, Asteroids, in the arcades etc, but it was playing those games on my 7800 that was so memorable. So much so, when Arcade1up made their versions of the cabs, I had to get them for nostalgia reasons. The 7800 also had a track ball unit which made playing Centipede much better. I hope I can still find that. Great review.

I remember my dad playing pitfall on 2600 and he ended up getting a patch for taking a picture of his score or something. Very nostalgic for that game and the 2600.

Atari is producing new 7800 pro pads. Those were the European controllers that were modeled after NES and master system pads.

Thank you for watching! 🙏🏼 I’m glad you’re enjoying yours as well, and appreciate your feedback! I actually was able to pick up Kaboom, so I can really use my paddles now lol! Random side note: I was thinking, since it runs Stella and is basically an SBC if there will be a way to sideload games 🤔

      @bobbus_74 Před 9 měsíci

@SheLionGaming KABOOM! Is such a hectic game. Good fun though.
As for side-loading games, I'd expect that was entirely possible. Would be be handy for the carts that aren't (yet) supported.

Great video! The 2600 was my first console, and have a large collection of 2600 and 7800 games. Still waiting for this to arrive. I have a sealed Desert Falcon, too! Lol. Pitfall II won't work since the cart dumper can't read the custom chip which provided the game with enhanced sound and graphics. Maybe we'll be able to sideload with a community update? We'll see.

I grew up in the 80s in the UK which was more about the ZX Spectrum, C64 and tha Amiga. So I have little nostalgia for Atari consoles. But I do concede that the woody design is a beautiful classic. Probably my favourite design ever. So my plan is to try and get one of these cheap one day and gut it for a Retropie box. I could use an original but this is that little bit smaller, which I like.

Hi great review so my self personally I never played a Atari system and have always wanted to buy one to experience so I ordered one with the 3 game carts with spinner and hopeing they continue to release games for there system just look at evercade they are on a roll releasing carts and I dig that eco system Atari has an opportunity to really get out to the masses by releasing older titles or remastered titles thanks have a great day

  • @classicarcadeamusementpark4242

I would like to see if it works decent on a CRT with the adapter you showed.
I run my Atari games via Stella software emulator to an arcade RGB CRT monitor via PC emulation.

My biggest problem with this is that it’s still emulation. Sure it’s using carts, but that’s just to temporarily download the game into memory. Might as well stick with a raspberry pi. At least then you’re not unnecessarily restricted to just the carts you own.
