      It is called a calico bristlenose pleco. It’s a little more complicated than just albino and a regular, they are more related the the ‘super red’ line.

    I used to have a bristlenose pleco but he died a few weeks ago I miss how every morning I'd feed the fish I'd find him attached to my pump waiting to be fed I always imagined him having a voice like Patrick Stewart and saying morning to me miss him always looked happy

    Our Common Pleco, Kirby, just died a few days ago. He was about 10 inches long ... and 20 years old. Yes, 20 (twenty). Our LFS had Bristlenose in, and since Kirby was really too large for our tank (though, obviously, he must have been content enough to live that long in it!), we brought home a tiny baby (1.5") Bristlenose (the common brown spotted color) yesterday. I'm already thrilled with him, and finding your videos so very helpful and informative. Thank you!

    This is the first video of yours that showed up in my notifications. I’m glad I checked it out.
    I bought 5 pleco from LFS and I made the noobie mistake not understanding size. I’m figuring out a home for my common who’ll need to go in about 6 months.
    With the help
    Of aquarium support group I figured out I have a bristlenose. He’s in the tank with my Betta fry with tons of plants and wood. He gets Zucchini, fresh cut canned green beans. Being a fry tank I change 50-75% of the water every other day.
    I’ve been looking for this info!
    I have 2 more I am trying to identify.
    Thank you.

    Hi Ryan, so happy you talked about this species of plecos and their needs. I will admit I think they are poop machines. LOL. However, I think there are a lot misconceptions about them and their nutritional needs and you cleared that up. Great video!

      @WildFishTanks  Před 5 lety

    I am the surprised BN pleco breeder! I had 7 fish in a 29 gal tank, not thinking they were old enough to even breed, not sure which were male and female, except there were to larger fuller finned obvious males... Did not know they had bred until I saw the first fry at maybe 2 wks old .... They have since spawned another batch less than a month later. Moved several out of the tank and have a 55 gal set up and just finished cycling, so MOVING ON UP! I have 3 LF dark males, 1 LF dark female, 1 LF albino female, 2 blue LF albino PLUS in another tank, 4 SF females (brown , black and albino) not planning to breed. Single SF brown male in a 10 gal, SF are all looking for new homes!

It's have been like that from day one I got it as a fry it was only a week old. My friends did not really they kept theirs in prefect breeding water. They had like 300 on a 20 long with the parents and one male cobra guppy. I begged for the guppy. He was beat up from the male pleco.

    In my opinion, keeping driftwood with Ancistrus (Bristlenose) plecos is a necessity. They include the wood in their diet. As for variety of the fancy Bristlenose there are many: standard brown, albino, calico, super red calico, L-144 (blue eyes), green dragon, lemon drop, etc. Plus there are Longfin versions of them. I really like the Ancistrus sp. “Super Red Calico Longfin” - great colour!

    I see you, and many other, aquarium pros use a kitchen knife to keep the veggies/zucchini from floating. I'm an old lady, LOL, and my fish education began 50 years ago, so my information is old. However, for many years I heard that you should never put metal in the fish tank. Is the stainless of a kitchen knife an exception, or is that caution just outdated? (Loving my brown Bristlenose. We named him Yoshi.)

    Idk if I could pick just one. I love the pleco it's self. They are adorable lil fish. I have 2 females, I learned how to actually sex them correctly. Mine have shorter thicker bodies their noses are very broad and hard. My albino is ruffly 4 inches, I named her Lilith. She has a whole 40 breeder. My other is brown as you said with nice white saddle marks on her back and throughout her tail. I got her when she was a week old. She is going on 8 months of age and she is just over 4 inches. I named her lil one. She was smallest and I did not know the sex of the fish. She has the 20 long to herself. I would like to get one for my 30 tall. I have had my eye on a super red long fin, or a albino long fin. I definitely want a male. The Barbs they are are wild and love it. My neighbor has a striking male. His is brown with yellow spots, and full head dress. I have thought about breeding. I do have enough filtration for it, plus I'm not lazy and I'm about testing my water, ans I'm on top of water changes. I have one fish a male betta he is my OG. Gilbert. A.K.A Grumpy Gill. His 3 gallon keeper I can do much too, he is a sensitive man. Last time I cleaned his keeper he chewed his fins. I haven't dared to scrub it again so he has a jungle of algae for plants and seems to really love it. I throw ghost shrimp in there to clean up some and I have some pond snails. He also raise's my one mystery snail I keep from clutches that I raise for puffer food. They have prefect shells for it. Oh yeah and my plecos for veggies, get green beans, blanched kale (which all my fish love.) I give them a a crab pellets, algae tabs, they will also eat blood worms, and brine shrimp. They also clean up the dead ghost shrimp as well.
