I now feel more confident to work on a '70 dual-quad Hemicuda with a shaker hood that's been sitting for a long time.
LOL dude that was awesome nice
Let's face it, we've all been there. Every 12th grader has one.
😂
😆😆
This is not driveway rescue. The guy has 30 or 40 of these.
I know this is a joke! I’m not even sure I want to finish watching it
Hands down the best Detroit ever had and ever will have to offer!!
Myles deep I T Totally agree with you on that pure Mopar muscle to the T and they just don’t make em like that no more!!!!!!!!!
@@25008272 yep they dont make under powered rust buckets like that any more...
wrong...these old cars were crap..will never be better than the newer ones....go back to your fiat
With Mr. Stephens money, why does he need a Driveway Rescue, he has plenty of people working for him that can do the job. This is like Chip Foose rebulding John Force's school bus, just for the Overhauling show!!!!!!
Its more like the T-Bird they did on Overhauling that was owned by the husband of the producer of the show. And he was a $180K+ a year sheriff...
My sediments exactly. The money he has made selling Mopar parts, he could have a complete restoration done 10 times over. Other than involving a vintage Hemi, a waste of funds that could help someone more in need.
It’s funny when you call there for a part they don’t give any brakes on pricing so you know he’s not paying it forward AMD rebuilt the whole Daytona he had in his yard
That's the one, THEE muscle car!!!!!
The last 1970 Hemicuda built had a black hood scoop instead of grey. It was built on the last day the plant was open for the 1970 production year and they were out of the grey ones and the black ones had come in so, they used a black one.
@2:00 homeboys face expression was borderline creeper 🤣🤣
Gotta appreciate a rare gem when you see one though 😎👍🏼
Lol
LOL. I went back to watch that to see who you were talking about. They both had the creeper vibe going on!!
I had a chance to buy a '70 Plum Crazy Hemi'Cuda automatic in 1978 for 4 grand $. Still kicking myself that I passed it up.
BFG radials one side and Goodyear bias ply's the other. Can't imagine it drives very well.
look at 3:50 and 21:30 it looks like they replaced those BFG tires with all Goodyear polyglass tires the owner did say something about new tires.
Anytime, anyone brings a Cuda to life, he brings me back to life. Cheers, to you all!
Everybody knows you take off the carbs fuel lines with vice grips and a hammer
I love this 😂
I usually use a torch.
Only if your name is Derek....😁
Facts.
💯
Cool car but when I was street racing back in the 80' and 90's in California a Hemi Cuda was No big deal. I ran a 10 second 67 468 BB Camaro. After 100's of street races only 2 losses, a 440 Dart and a 440 Roadrunner. Both had less horsepower but they hooked like they were at the track.
In los angeles late-60s my brother in law ran a modified ac cobra 427 with racemasters on the street he said those hemis were no match, he had more work running souped-up Willis coupes.
A good friend of mine used to work at a local mom and pop garage. They did body repair. Engine repair. Oil changes. Stuff like that. Anyway,....the garage had quite a large clientele. One of which would bring his gorgeous black Hemi Cuda in every 5000 miles for oil change, plugs, plug wire, and tune-up. My good buddy had never worked on a Hemi before. So he calls me about the best way to go about changing the plugs.🤣🤣🤣So I tell him. Next thing I know,....he is pulling up in my driveway with a sad and dejected look on his face. He cross threaded 3 of the 8 spark plugs in that Hemi.🤨 I was completely floored that he had managed this. And to this day,.....he won't even look at a Hemi anything.
Sad part is it'll probably set another 15 years since the owner is "too busy" to drive it
SO SAD TO SEE SUCH A CAR JUST SITTING AND NOT BEING ENJOYED BECOUSE OWNER IS (TO BUSY TO DRIVE IT) A REAL CAR GUY WOULD NEVER DO SUCH A THING TO A BEAUTFUL CAR ITS LIKE HAVEING A SUPER HOT WIFE AND NEVER TOUCHING HER
Exactly! How can’t you find a half hour a week to drive that? Drive it to your busy job(s). Drive it to the hardware store. Drive it when you go out to eat...just DRIVE it!
@@user-yt6dw6rd1x a real car guy doesn't have the money to afford this car

Re the brake reassembly: my old man was an engineer at Bendix his whole working life and back in the day - before cellphones - his common sense advice was “do one side at a time so if you aren’t sure, you cab go look at the other one.”
One thing you forgot to mention. When changing Oil on these Engines, you must use an Oil with a High Zinc Content, to prevent ruining the Camshaft.
Nice video, you did the rear wheel cylinder, what about the front calipers along with the Master Cylinder? No one addressed the Transmission Fluid and change the filter, also the the Rear End Fluid, the exhaust is good--probably not!!! So much you missed, or is this TV...
The exhaust looked good go re watch it. When he pulls the back wheel off.
Oh man! What a treat guys. Nothing like waking up Saturday morning to a beautiful 70 hemi cuda.
I'm a Ford guy that pays the bills doing LS swaps and I confirm, this, is the best MUSCLE car
The amazing thing to me was the INTERIOR. It looked practically brand new.
Hang on, did the air filter not get changed? Looked like the old one went back in.
When they say numbers matching baby we mean numbers matching 🤣
@@PACKERMAN2077 it's the realm of numbers matching factory original condition

I watched one of their episodes where they took the whole front end off the car from the frame and then replaced it with an aftermarket using the same 30 year old frame bolts to put it back in place. Everyone knows that once they're torqued they've been stretched. Not to mention 30 year old degradation and metal fatigue. Saved a whole $10. One would think that's not the place to cut corners. These guys are just a little too "contrived" for me to watch very long. You wouldn't talk to your friends they way they present to the audience. C'mon man! We're all car guys. Lighten up and be natural.
Here’s a trick for you guys that no one seems to do when you put the carb back on after a rebuild just before you go to start it use the vent tube to fill the bowl on the carb so you don’t have to wait on the fuel pump to get fuel up there especially on a system the hasn’t had fuel in it for years like this one that you put the new pump on too
Back in 1973 my two buddies and I were going to buy a Hemi 4 speed Cuda to race in Super Stock. The seller was asking $2,100 at the time (gas crisis) and we agreed on $1,800! Each of us needed $600 to own a piece of that baby! Sadly one guy bailed and myself and the other guy couldn't afford to build the car ourselves.😢 We already each were racing our 340 Super Stock Demons and a Dart. What a mistake that was letting that Hemi get away! 3.55 Dana rear and perfect shape! About 20K on the odometer I believe? Love to turn back the clock 48 years!😀
turn back the clock to what? These were crappy cars, the 440-6 was only 325 net horsepower and 426 only 350......any 2022 sedan with 5.7 would blow them off the road today....
That's a real "goin ta town unit" Derek- Vice Grip Garage. A feller might want to drive it to get a wobble pop.
That CUDA is the price of a house but i love it
All that work and didn't put in a new air filter 😂
No exhaust clips, no revving, no burn outs, no drive by shots, nothing.
Im so glad to see Daniel on a show! He is not your average"car show host". Dude knows his way around a machine shop, and the inside and out of an engine that your average mechanics just have no idea about. And you do not learn it by watching CZcams videos, or even reading. Well yes some reading, but mostly being mentored by a master.
Make the Hemi 'Cuda your work.
Great video with some excellent tips and tricks

Take the crush washers off the plugs !!!!Ask uncle tony
Oh, just seeing this one hurts.....
I had a '70 Hemi Challenger. The key word is HAD. What happened to it, you may ask? Well, let me give you guys some advice:
If you own a -'70 Hemi car, do not, and I repeat, DO NOT....get a divorce.
And I lost a 1960 Impala Sport Coupe to a divorce. Will never forgive her.

Two rednevk's in Genoa, Ohio had a 1970 Hemi Cuda around the early 90's. I have been trying to locate where these guys live. I hope someone has rescued that car by now, but my curiosity, and just cause I love to cruise, I will keep looking.
They go through all those steps,YET stick back on,that Nasty OLD air-filter on top of it!!!
Now we're talking! 😳😲😎
Does anyone else love the sound of that starter?
I hear you , Love the sound of that Chrysler Gear Reduction starter , Awesome sound !
I agree! I always thought that was an outstanding sound!
Not enough time? Yeah right. Dude you could at least drive it for 30 minutes maybe every two weeks or so even if it's just thru the neighborhood. I would if I owned it and worked a lot. I would drive it to pick up lunch when I take a few minutes to eat while working, that way the car gets some exercise. There's always some way to get it moving.
No engine oil change? DATS NOICE
Okay anyone else think it's weird that they have the same last name except for one letter boshers/ boshears
Yeah, I want to hear the official word on that.
Glad to see a Hemi Cuda rescue. However, it seems the owner has other cars sitting in a large garage.
He makes enough money to make such investments, but too cheap to maintain the vehicles he owns?
He is a business owner, obviously a fairly successful business!
He has the means to rescue his own car.
There are more people struggling to make ends meet with a vehicle that needs maintenance they can't afford!
Good luck 👍
Very nice!!!!
All the way across from the uk.
I'm surprised you guys don't have a ultra sonic cleaner for cleaning parts
When my Dad was a young man a buddy of his bought one just like this except it was a 4spd he says that thing could smoke the tires in every gear! 😲
fantastic show..👍🚗🚗!
??
Anyone else wondering if the intro animation scene is based on Special Stage Route 5 from Gran Turismo? Particularly the upward right turn at 21 seconds, where it goes onto the main straight and then you have the view of the city skyline.
These cars were designed to drive, not be stored for years on end.
I've owned a number of Mopar Muscle Cars from the 60s and 70s, and all were daily drivers, as they should be.
My uncle has one just like that same color, but a black interior, and he is the og owner bought new!!!!!
Cheers
Nice!
You should have drove up to the owner and told him the way to fix it is to sell it.

How come we so often hear a hot car fire up and the sound is immediately covered with music???!!! They must use video editors who are not car guys.
Got to cover up that copyright strikable V8 😝
Please take care of that under side of the hood :)
Transmission fluid and filter. I guess these guys forgot to go to auto zone.

you guys ever finishing the cadi herse ?!??!!??!?
I have heard you remove the washer on the spark plug so it doesn't dig into the bottom of the valve cover.
No excuse not to drive it. You still have to go to work. Sometimes you need to go to the post office for stamps and such. You can always find an excuse to drive. I just drove 532 miles getting the Corvette out after winter slumber just to get an new pair of bath slippers. You need to find the reasons to drive.
Man, when your busy running your business and running errands all you need is a vehicle to get you from A to B. To drive a car like this around daily especially while working would be a pain in the ass. You are constantly having to be prepared and worried about something breaking or someone bumping into or crashing into your car and if anything goes wrong which eventually will happen your whole schedule for the day is screwed. Its a fun car for the weekend or just to cruise in but when your mind is set on working or doing something important car troubles are the last thing you want to deal with. You also gotta remember that this is a 6 figure car so if someone opens their door into the side of your car and wrinkles a door or quarter panel that could easily cost a few grand to fix this isnt just a 2 thousand dollar disposable import car this is a rare and almost irreplaceable collectors car.
@@briang4470 Start small. You're running a business which means you're used to getting up earlier than everyone else. Tomorrow morning get in the car at 3 to 4 AM go to a 24 hour gas station and get some coffee and donuts. The coffee may be a bit stale at that hour but whatever. On the other hand in my area (SE Wisconsin) they restock the donuts every day at about 1AM so they are nice and fresh There will be little traffic so you won't have to share the road as much with the typical shitwits you find during the day driving slow in the fast lanes. You can have it all to yourself essentially. Get far out of town. Small towns in the country are the best for a good destination. Often there will be no one at all in the parking lot of the gas station so door dings are nothing to worry about. Use an on ramp to the freeway once everything is up to temp and let the engine breath. Once you get home you will be very energized and most likely more productive that say. Repeat once every two weeks for best results. I know the feeling about trying to keep your car as pristine as possible but just look at all the expense you went thru to get it back on the road just from sitting. Give it a try. Let me know how it goes.
Drill needs to be in reverse to prime a BBM/Hemi - with a CCW rotation. Looked like the drill was spinning CW.
I'm sure he figured it out.
Where did you find high test gas or did you use race gas?
Should have changed the trans oil and filter, rear gear lube and that shaker air cleaner.
Ive never experienced the problem of gas in the crank case. What happens if it ignites? Just blow out the pan or what?
I always love the "no fender covers, grind the dirt into the paint" approach. Lets grind more dirt into the paint. HACKS :-(
Never ever put a poppet style thermostat into a big block Chrysler. Use the balanced sleeve thermostat. It flows better it controls the flow better, and I've yet to see one fail.
I don't know who last put spark plugs in that engine. They didn't take the gasket off the bottom of the plugs. When you have those drool tubes that you're putting those plugs into the you are not supposed to put the gasket on the plug.
If he dont care more than that about it I wouldn't waste my time with him
The man owns the largest Mopar salvage yard in America. They've bought cars and rare parts from Mr. Stephen's over the year.
