I had a ‘93 Honda Civic 4 door sedan that was our family of four hauler for 10 years. That thing was rated at 90ish horsepower and did fine. A 150hp motorcycle is more than adequate.
PO of a DL650. You'll definitely miss the 1k cc. Usually better MPG and torque..
I'd gladly ride the 1k for a while. 😊🙏🏻
Torque is king for street and highway riding speeds and situations as far as I am concerned. And if 150 HP is not enough for you then I don't know what to think.
I owned 2 liter adv. bikes (VStrom 1000 (2014-2018) and Africa Twin Adv.Sports DCT (2019-2021). NOW: I am very happy with my 2022 VStrom 650. This bike is so easy to use (compared to the heavier others), you feel this immediately when you pick it up from the kickstand, and the V2-engine is such a wonderful transformer. It follows your mood/purpose of the day: either commuting, cruising, 2-up or sporty! The message: don´t fear a smaller engine or less torque - unless it´s proper engine! The lighter bike (comparing to 1000 cc ADV bikes) contributes a lot to happyness. Of cource: not to forget the difference in cost!
Agree, for solo riding, the 650 is an excellent choice. I certainly enjoyed mine. Cheers.
Great podcast! I have a 2018 Vstrom 650 w/roughly 6200 miles (low mileage for a 6 yo bike). The Akrapovic exhaust I have just illuminates that V-twin w/o being obnoxious. I'm a bit height challenged with a 30' inseam but do manage to stay creative when riding/maneuvering at garage speeds, however - do wish I had slightly longer legs. My son got into riding and bought a Ninja 650 and having rode it home at the time of purchase (he was yet licensed, etc), I was floored at the fun I had and the ease at which I could ride that bike. So much so - I bought one which I now have (2023 KTR edition). Well low and behold - I'm at MotoAmerica Road Atlanta and had a chance to test ride/demo a Suzuki GXS 8R. And WOW, what a bike (even an inch lower in seat height from my Vstrom). Just enamored with the 8R (comfort, balance, torque, HP, etc) and now wondering whether I let go of the Vstrom (and perhaps even the Ninja to pls my wife's desire to limit my inventory to a bike of 1).
I think I would swap an vstrom 650 for an 8R if I was only riding locally - they sound like a lot of fun with a real world engine...Tough choice. Good luck!
Coming from a world where 24hp is all I need to get things done….150hp is tons!!!!😂
Same for me. It's amazing how much hp you don't need.
I have installed the Oxford pro heated grips on my z900rs. They have integrated controls, so no unsightly box. Plenty hot for me as well.
I'll have to look those puppies up - I didn't know about them. The Guzzi is looking for some heated grips - that might be the solution. Cheers.
They also have an auto-shutoff feature, so can be wired directly to the battery. Cheers !
BMR, I watch this video entirely. Good to see your Happy Face. 🙂
I would like to invite you to a British Columbia Motorcycle LiveStream at 5pm PST tomorrow (Saturday)
We will be on "Freedom Biker Tours" Channel.
Thanks for the invite, Angel. I missed that one. Cheers though!
Do you want to mark down March 2nd & join us for the next one Sir.? 🙂 It's being hosted my Canadian MotoChannels you probably know (or should know-of) I feel this is a way we can support each other.
My biggest question is one that probably can't be answered. How does a guy in his 70's (me) get the money to buy ANY motorcycle? I've been looking for a part time job but have been very unlucky in that attemp. I dream of cycling again. It's been 7 years since my last back surgery (where I didn't think that I could ever ride again and gave my FJR 1300 away) and I feel great, but don't have anything to ride. My wife doesn't say anything as I think she'd rather I didn't ride at all even though I was riding when we met. I have a Steinway grand piano for sale, but nobody's interested in paying what it's worth.
That's a tough one, Scout. A steinway - wow. I wonder if someone would trade a bike? Plenty of cheap, great value bikes out there too. A nice DL650 won't set you back much. Good luck.
Sounds like you might regret one day not having had another bike.... In this case you should find/accept a way to get the buget. Good luck!
