Summer Solstice 2023: Act 2 "Desert Sands"

At this Summer Solstice lunch time recital, the beauty of the rabab, a 2500-year-old stringed instrument from Afghanistan, was illuminated by award-winning musician Qais Essar.
Qais Essar is a contemporary Afghan American singer, composer, and producer, most well-known for his original piece ‘The Cown Sleeps,’ created for the Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated film the Bread Winner, produced by Angelina Jolie. The piece won “Best Original Song” in the Canadian Screen Awards.
Joining him was John Ball, a talented player of the tabla with more than 20 years of dedication and devotion to Indian classical music.
