  • The Case for Cassie
Is Cassandra Thomas from "Promising Young Woman" in the right, or is defining characteristic a fatal flaw?
Is Shain's makeup snatched, or is their face just incredibly handsome and perfect?
The choice is yours! (But not really.)

Great video!!! Your opinion made me see the movie from a completely different angle!
My initial view was that the movie was kind of condemning the rape-revenge power fantasy that these type of movies usually serve us. That when cassie dies we are being told that there is no meaningful revenge one could take against rape culture, so continuing to live and take care of each other is vital. Which made me see the ending where she *does* get her revenge as contradictory.
In this case, Nina's mom becomes the character who speaks the theme explicitly, "You can't [make it better], Cassie. Please stop, for all of us." (Or something to that affect)
But your point about Nina's mom becoming a mirror of everyone else wanting to sweep Nina under the rug is really interesting! This has completely changed how I'm understanding what PYM is telling us. Something else is the script that supports your view is that the original song planned for the ending scene was "No Regrets" by the Walker Brothers & that Cassie's last statement goes as follows:
    Al: "You're insane!"
    Cassie: "I *honestly* don't think I am."
    Go Cassie!

Thank you! Yeah, I think that's a valid take. I'm basically taking a position in this video that's a bit of an extreme version of how I felt watching it. I definitely feel that personal happiness and fulfillment needs to come first in life, but I also belief that happiness isn't always gotten through traditional means.
