it's so weird to me that so many people thought aang lying was inconsistent to his character. like airbender tactics are all about evading and avoiding to sidestep conflict whenever possible, just not always in a literal sense.

While I think the idealized version of Katara discussion is an interesting one, I think the video really dragged there. It probably could have been its own 'controversial Avatar video' topic.

Thanks! I see what you mean, I felt it getting a bit inflated in the drafting, but I couldn't decide quite how to handle it. Something to learn from going forward. That part about Aang's ending being wrong really was the point of the video, though, I just could have balanced it out better.

I agree that the Great Divide is underated and overhated... I disagree with basically everything in the middle.
I believe it gets just as much hate as it deserves
Truly the greatest shortcoming is that this episode has caused some people to give up on watching this show.
Even though it is one of the greatest shows ever, one bad episode can be enough to turn people away. And this episode is the landmine that some people have to walk their friends and families around carefully to get to the other side.
1:06 some people have attributed the major hatred for this episode to how many times it was rerun

Ohhhh interesting! I guess I do vaguely remember it being on quite a bit. Many episodes tie in to the series story and this episode doesn't as much. I was one of those kids watching the show as I was channel flipping and it was difficult to get a grasp on the full story in just the hour or so between school and homework, so episodes like this were more common.
@@timecapsule7842 I didn’t get into it until they started doing the rerun start to finish on Nicktoons which they did a LOT and they had a LOT of marathons of it esp right before Korra aired so I only ever saw it in order tbh
@@SebastianSeanCrow ahh got it, I didn't have cable then since I was in college, so I watched all of Korra online. It's always fascinating how the switch from tv to streaming changed our perceptions and memories of shows
@@timecapsule7842 yeah I watched all of season one Korra on Nicktoons and all of avatar in Nicktoons and then I couldn’t watch it by the time Korra got to seasons 2 but by then or by season 3 they were fucking with distribution so much
Didn’t get to finish Korra until avatar hit Netflix and cuz I couldn’t afford to buy CBS on Amazon I ended up pirating it (and then literally right after I finish the whole series it hit Netflix which I did have 😭)
But I only ever saw avatar in chronological order and any time I saw it while it was active and not reruns was only small snippets

8:22 they didn’t even bait Zutara until the Ember Island Players episode where the extras that would pop up on screen would say they originally intended them to be a couple as a parody of that is played out on screen and I missed the ending extra but apparently it was just a sike
And like idgaf honestly they should do what they want with their story the thing that gets me is they had to **weigh in** on fucking shipping discourse. I heard about that edit they did of fanart at a convention and basically blasted the Zutara shippers and like…. Y’all are fucking grown ass men?? And you’re acting like **children?!** the insult to the shippers + Brike even **thinking** it was a good idea to fan this fire just pisses me off
Absolutely, and it's so shitty because they clearly had shippers on deck. Both the Ehasz's clearly thought the show was going that way; Bosco and Whitman thought they should have been together; apparently Jack DeSena ships Taang (king shit, honestly). So like, why are you gaslighting a bunch of kids who were just reading the clear subtext you were writing into your show, and then mocking them for it? So cringe, I don't think it would fly today in the same way.
I agree with pretty much everything you say, except, well, The Great Divide is still really boring to sit through.
