ABOUT DANDY CLASS
One of our best tools for self expression in life is our clothing. Whether in a crowd or in photographs, our clothes tell the story of who we are before we even open our mouths. That’s why a complete and carefully crafted wardrobe is so important. It’s a visual calling card that signals to the world who you are and even who you want to be.
Wardrobe Building is a course I’m providing (available in group and one-on-one sessions) to help you tackle all things sartorial. Think of me as your personal style consultant, here for questions, advice and to bounce idea off of.
In the interactive group sessions we’ll go though the basics of a wardrobe. We’ll talk about inspiration, resources and the practical implementation of building your wardrobe with these things in mind. We’ll cover wearing hats, pairing ties and shirts, integrating color and color coordination. We’ll talk vintage and best practices for buying/maintaining pieces and how to achieve certain looks with modern brands.
In the one-on-one class, I’ll be working with you to define your style, develop looks that speak to your personality and work for your daily life. We’ll go through your existing wardrobe, examine each piece individually as part of a whole. We’ll build wishlists, digital mood boards and create actionable goal to achieve the wardrobe you hope to achieve. From basics for everyday to dressing for business to formal occasions, we'll cover it all and more. Along the way, I’ll teach you tips and tricks I’ve learned from of developing my own unique personal style.
Building a wardrobe from the ground up isn’t about buying the hottest trends or wearing the look from a mannequin. It’s about developing a working wardrobe that is personal, practical and cohesive. Developing personal style takes time and effort but with patience and collaboration, anything can be achieved.
Which outfit was your favorite?
They're all really candy sweet, but how you slam that pink - that's just magic right there!
The tie in outfit number two just really pulls everything together! Fantastic!!
That pink sweater vest outfit was one of my favorites. The one with the yellow squared-off tie was great too!
I like number 3, the yellow tie is such a lovely contrast to the teal.
All SO good, but really liking #2.
The Pink and Teal combination was *chef’s kiss* and the name that popped into my head was “Cotton Candy Dandy”.
So glad you liked it! It's a favorite.
Me: hasn't really considered building a vintage wardrobe
Dandy Wellington puts out a video
Me: starts outlining exactly what I need in a dark academia-meets-vintage wardrobe
I got a story for you. Back sometime around 1987, my eldest brother came to visit me in Cambridge, Mass. He took me to visit a former colleague of his in Hingham, on the South Shore. The suit his colleague friend was wearing was almost the exact same fabric of the Simon James Cathcart suit demonstrated in the second half of the video. Teal-colored herringbone. And it was custom; I can't remember whether he went to a person in Boston or whether he had it done somewhere else and shipped to him.
I just remember how well it fit him, and how a good suit could make a guy look and feel great. I have never forgotten this in my relationship with my tailor, Sallieu.
Love that story and its true a suit can do wonders! Thanks for watching!
I just wanted to say Dandy that I recently introduced your videos to my boyfriend who wanted to start dressing more dapper and vintage and he really admires you. Thank you for continually guiding us!
Thank you for watching!
OMG your singing with your outfit-ting! That made me so happy!
The pink sweater vest with those knickerbockers tho...
I might just have to get my Katherine Hepburn game together soon... You're showing us vintage gals up!
Oh yeah, I was definitely thinking that suit wanted a bright pink top paired with it, so happy to see that right off
Thanks for the shoutout at the very start!
27:13 is timed perfectly!
Naming that tune: that was a Louis Armstrong MOMENT! ✨
It was indeed!!
I love how the teal color shifts from blue to green, from subtle to vibrant, depending on the lighting and the color shirt & accessories you choose
I love Darcy Clothing and its only 40 miles away from me down in Brighton UK....
The pink is simply phenomenal, but I do think the yellow is fabulous against the teal!
That teal😍🥰😍🥰, now I want to source some of that fabric to make the American Duchess Cult Cape.... all the looks are swell, but the pink look pops. As another commenter said #cottoncandydandy for sure!
That new suit👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💙
My fave combo #3 and 2nd was with the pinkish.
I recently bought a suit from Simon James Cathcart, probably one of the best suits I’ve bought!
This is the best video by far that Dandy Wellington has made to my mind.... very engaging... big thank you for the upload..
Thanks very much for watching!
I don't think I'll be in a plus four soon, but enjoyed your master class and appreciation of the fabrics so very much. Go, Dandy!
Thank you so much for watching !!
That fabric is to DIE for!
It’s interesting to me that the trousers fit you so well if the suit was made more for someone who is tall and thin. I thought if there would be a fitting issue, it would be in the toosh. I was surprised that the pants fit and the jacket had issues.
The pink and teal was great. But getting a lot of love. I think I’m going to go with the yellow tie and the boater at the end. The whole middle looks like such a classic stereotypical suit, then you have the boater and the +twos (fours? I now can’t remember what you said it was) which bring it back down a little more casual and just work together so well.
Wonderful video! Thank you for talking about the parts of the suit, different features, and the difficulties of those with different bodies.
I do not have a little Jamaican back there. But I have a short torso and deep lumbar lordosis. So my body fits like it’s got a little Jamaican back there. And wow is it hard to fit clothes when your torso is less than 1/3 your body height and you’ve got a waist shorter than the width of your hand.
I love it! This suit seemed so much like you. Congrats on the addition to your wardrobe. Wishing you many years of enjoyment wearing.
The outfit with the flamingo tie is perfection!💖💖
I can already tell, from this video, that your information for curvy body types in your upcoming video for afab people is going to be super helpful
"Gentleman Farmer" suit with a city flair. 👍🏿
pls update us when you get it tailored!! i’ve never gotten anything tailored and id love to see what they would do to solve this problem :>!
Just caching up on your channel. That looks with the plus fours, blue shirt with club collar, tie, jacket and flat cap was amazing.
What superb quality of materials and that lining material too! I wouldn’t wear a plus four suit but a vintage suit of a different style, made with such quality fabrics, definitely! Subscribed.
"Made by the two sisters, Polly and Esther..." 😅😂😂😂😆
Anyway, love the second and third look 😃😏😎✨ (...as someone who thinks that plus fours=Tintin's trousers the second look (plus four+flatcap(...applejack? Forgot the exact name 😅😫🙈)) easily takes the cake for me 😏😆)
Hello! I was sent here by someone who spoke really highly of you and I can see why. This is lovely.
I love the last outfit. The yellow tie screams "sunny day" and the checkered red and white shirt complimented the tir. It makes the blue within the till suit more pronounced. You've got a great suit!👍🏿
Wonderful video, Mr. Wellington. You rocked that new suit and I love the way you dress and present yourself. Also, thanks for the list of companies that sell new vintage styled clothing. I love Thomas Farthing and I appreciate the tips for the other two.
I just stumbled on to this video looking up Darcy Clothing, and oh my goodness, I love your energy. Such a fun person to listen to, keep it up!
Glad to found your channel. Great review, very clear
The jamaican comment had me IN TEARS . My father from bacon Georgian and asking him to do anything cold other than iced tea will get you jumped asap also I'm so happy you got the blue over the rust imo
It's fantastic with the brighter colours, like the pink, and the single streak of sunshine yellow from the tie.
I love this suit! And I love the timelessness of menswear. I aspire to a Katharine Hepburn type of menswear-inspired uniform. Right now, though, I live in the tropics, so it's all about the shorts and t-shirts. So I live vicariously through folks like you!
love the cap and tie combo
Looking swell there sir!
Your new suit is fabulous and you look so handsome in it. I love to see a well-dressed gentleman who appreciates fine fabrics. Are you familiar with Zack Pinsent? His style is earlier than your favoured era but I can see you two gentlemen being fast friends.
I had to pause the video and walk around after seeing that suit! Whew, stunning.
She's beautiful right?!
Dandy, just wanted to let you know I discovered your channel a few days ago and binge watched like 7 videos so far. You totally ROCK! I freaking love you man. Your style, sense of humor video editing qualities etc... you are doing awesome. TYVM for making all the vids. Looking forward to watching them all
2:45 I think you forgot Rjw shirts, nevertheless, amazing video!
Good video…I hope you start making more!
Love all your videos.
Thanks very much. Your video was excellent. Some practice in the mirror and now I've cracked 👍
Thank you for another inspiring presentation. Your knowledge and enthusiasm are a joy to receive and OH, ALL THE COLOURS! 😍
I wish I had a plus four suit 😍. The one you got is spectacular. Thanks for sharing all those brands. I love how you paired the suit with pink.
Looking good! That's a fabulous suit, I like the more muted blue, because it should allow you to pair it with a wider range of colors. Bright and basic colors both look fabulous with that.
Question: Do you color match your accessories with the lining of your garments? With the jacket closed, of course, you don't see anything, but with it open, flashes of inside color can be seen on occasion. Is it worth coordinating with that in mind?
always lovely to see your new videos dandy!! do you have any outfits that you don’t like or outfits you think you could improve on? i think it would make for an interesting video in the future, cheers!
Wow. Such an informative video. Love the look(s) too! Thanks!
Thank you !!
You have some beautiful suits!
This was such a great video, thank you for making it! I've been interested in vintage fashion, especially from the 20s and 40s, for so long, but always felt unsure about where to start or like it was too expensive. Your channel has really inspired me to pursue my love for it. I love the suit you chose!! The teal is such a fantastic colour and it's cool to see how well it works with your other clothes. You have such a cool style! I hope you have a good day :)
By spending a little extra money on a quality item, you’ll find that you save money in the long run. Good fabrics and exquisite design will never be out of fashion and will look good on your grand children when you are long gone.
You look great!
That suit colour is delicious! I would definitely wear it, even as a female 😂.
I think the pink vest and pocket square combo was my fave.
Are you aware of Chester Cordite, very good for 30s & 40s suits and separates, shirts and the occasional jacket. VERY authentic, ethically made and lasts well!
My good....... Such highwaisted knickerbockers....... Amazing...........
So highwaisted! It's magic
Check out Walker Slater too.
Exquisite! Quality shows, doesn't it?
100% there is so much quality in this garment!
I would gladly save up to buy an outfit and try to wear it. A part of me feels like people would like to get more into wearing what they like if they knew where to buy clothes for it. I think the stores are nice places to get started. I also wanted to know how do you wash and how often do you wash your clothes? Most of my clothes had polyester mixed in with them and I heard that for things like Wool and Linen washing machines and especially dryers aren't recommended and dry cleaners use chemicals to clean clothes and not the best for the environment. Seeing vintage clothes or getting a more expensive item I am a bit hesitant to get them dirty, wearing them, and then being able to wash them and having it made of more natural materials with idea of them being less resistant then polyester. I would like to know if there is a daily or weekly thing that you do to wear them regularly.
Not me rushing to follow all those brands on instagram
Looks comfortable. Gotta give it to people that lived in the early 20th century, they dressed really well. Even poor people dressed better than today's common man.
Hi, just found your channel today. Its good to see some diversity in this community. The other one I found recently is "Not your mamas history". Now I'd like to find some Latinos who are apart of this community as well. Do you know of any?
One Question I have: how do you call those Stickers, you put sometimes on your Reverse?
What is the website for Cordova caps? are they in the United States?
Do you like gurkha pants? 👖❤️💪
Where do you get your socks ,I have wide feet and thick legs and men's socks fit me better.
What’s vintage style not vintage values
what it says!
@@Methodsaimon what are said vintage values.
@@stealthysam7761 well the racism and how we judged by class how people overall were treated if they lacked certain things it wasnt all that great back than! but the clothing yeah the clothing was indeed great!
everything was expected a certian way for example if a women wanted to work in construction that was seen as absurd even tho why not she could become a great carpenter!
Ok thank you for clearing this up for me.
