    Brilliant wee fly. You'll need to show us all how to tie the lightning bolt (chartreuse tube and gold conehead 🎣😉)

      Hi @G78,
      I have been trying to get out for a days on the river since the season opened on the 15th of March and it hasn't happened due to the rivers around me being too high or blowing a gale..Hopefully we will be on the water very soon and I'm glad you liked the fly..

    You earned my respect over the last few days. You've got q20k suvs and thousands of comments yet have taken time to answer all my questions. I have a single video with almost 1 million views and only dozens of comments, and I can not keep up. How do you do it?

    Great pattern, very interesting thoughts. I'm up the spey in a few weeks and this would be a cracking fly.
    I don't have any jungle cock feathers, what are you thoughts on them, worth the outlay?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Hi @Rustyboyyy1,
      I do like using Jungle cock on some patterns as I feel they do add something special but some of the best flies out there don't have jungle cock on them like the Willie Gunn, Cascade and the Ally's shrimp which I have lots of faith in as they have caught me a few fish over the years so it all comes down to what you like and gives you the confidences to fish with..I'm glad you liked the fly and thank you for the kind words..

    Hello Davie. When it comes to Jungle Cock, it looks extremely good, but have you ever considered substitutes or not using it? I bought a cape myself 25 years ago, and there are still some feathers on it. I catch more fish now, and use less Jungle Cock.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi @JustGoneFishing,
      I have used a substitute jungle cock on some flies and I've also filmed a fly here on CZcams using it a few years ago and many did like it..I do fish a few flies without it, one of my favourite salmon flies the Willie Gunn doesn't have it so I would be happy to fish without it if I didn't have any...If you have faith in the fly you are fishing I feel this is more important...

    Amazing pattern Davie. I’m not familiar with Artic Runner, is it a type of deer hair?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi @hirkojs,
      Arctic runner comes from Iceland as far as I believe and it's a type of horse hair...I'm glad you liked the fly..

    Nice tie. If you were starting out dying your own material, mainly for trout, what 6 colour dyes would you begin with? Best wishes, Mike

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi Mike,
      It would be hard to pick just six colours even though you can mix many to get certain colours just as an artist would do although it doesn't always work like that as I have had some weird colours over the years doing this...I would say Yellow would be my first choice as I can dye natural coloured capes to get certain colours like a natural grey will give you a lovely olive if dyed yellow depending on how light or dark it is right up to a natural black which will give you a lovely sooty olive..This also works with natural browns from light ginger to dark brown...The colours I use mostly for trout are black, red, hot orange, teal blue, Golden Yellow, Brown Olive, Cinnamon, Ginger, Fiery Brown Claret, Blue Dun and Magenta though this is only a third of the colours I have..I hope this is of some help to you..
      All the very best Davie
