    Comes with small bezel screen with no power LED cutout or logo but if you insist on having both (there is still no power LED on these console motherboards), you can purchase a replacement screen meant for other kits and use that instead. Game compatibility is mostly hit though there are a few misses. Most games seem to work fine via a specific combination of menu options. Those specific options may require experimentation to find. Original Game Boy games tend to work better on the GB core and newer games tend to work better on the GBC core.
    Everdrive and EZ Flash Jr MAY or MAY NOT work, depending on your specific hardware variants and the specific game you're trying to load. It's basically down to luck of the draw. If this is a red flag for you, consider skipping the cart emulator entirely and stick with an Anbernic or Miyoo or similar. You'll have a much more consistent experience. Funnyplaying has stated their intent to make these carts compatible but as of v1.04 firmware on v1.1 hardware, compatibility is STILL hit and miss.
    This console ONLY works with game carts. You can not load ROMs and run them directly.

    I love the idea of this product
    Not for what it is, but for the idea of what it can become
    Integrated game genie, game shark, Integrated everdrive (They can use the space for the IR receiver for a micro sd slot)
    This product has the potential to become a better and cheaper Analogue Pocket🤞
    And with a price of $90 versus buying a GBC and a backlit screen kit is definitely in the right ballpark
    Even if it increases by 10-30 dollars for the functions I just mentioned

      It doesn’t have the potential to be better than the Analogue Pocket. It has the potential to be cheaper than the analogue pocket if you only care about GB/GBC. But right now, even just those two cores are so far from the quality of Analogue’s that they have a long way to go.

    At this point the continued use of the tri-wing screws are a statement to the ingenuity of the community. The security measures those screws used to offer have been defeated. What was once a difficult tool to find, now we have tri-wing screwdrivers easily available for next to nothing. We even have easy access to identical tri-wing screws that we use in reproduction parts. Tri-wing screws used to actually offer security due to the rarity of the tools. Now, we've adopted them to such a degree that continuing to use them has become a middle finger to those types of "security" measures. I love it!

      It's not just you. It sucks ass. It's stupid that they even bother with a proprietary boot logo. Just use the regular GBC one! Clearly they don't care about infringing on any copyright since they're a Chinese company and they literally print "Nintendo" on their 3rd party shells.

    After I updated my v1.11 Board, the Console did not boot anymore. I made sure I used the right files for my Board Version (in this case files for v1.1, because there are no files for v1.11) but the moment I copied it over, the console stopped working. The screen and speakers still work, but screen is black and speaker just has low noise. It doesn't boot.
    I tried every update to get it back to it's original firmware but the console does not boot anymore. Only black screen and a little static from the speaker. The PC still recognizes the Drive when I plug it in and trun it on, so it is not completely broken.
    I'm still waiting on an answer from funnyplaying what it could be or how to solve it.
    Is it possible that the Boards v1.11 need separate files for updating, not the files for 1.1? I mean if you update a v1.09 Board with v1.1 FW, it also stops the console from working (after what I read online). I'm very frustrated right now. Maybe someone here had the same problem with a v1.11 Board and knows how to solve it...

    • @makho
      @makho  Před 3 měsíci +1

      V1.11 and V1.1 boards use the same firmware. The behavior you're describing is either caused by flashing the wrong firmware (e.g. for v1.0 boards) or by an incomplete flash. Ensure you're using the proper firmware and try updating from another device. Since you're on v1.1 based hardware, you're not limited to windows devices only for updating.

    im still missing the IR, and also really wish they would opensource the firmware, because i fee like it will still be lacking on its potential if we wait for them to implement stuff... (one exemple is that they say they will implement grid options, but i dont like their grid options, the grid shouldnt be black to emulate gameboy, it should give a "reflector colored" grey impression, it would also solve the loss in brightness, also dont like how they managed the fake "rgb" one)

      I got another of these FPGBC from Funny Playing and the speaker didn't work, I tried another spare speaker and same problem, it was the board that came defective. But I contacted them and they send me a new board, problem solved. Maybe your board is having issues, better email the supplier, Funny Playing and RGRS have amazing costumers service.

    your palettes in pokemon are messed up, because pokemon red and blue (and yellow) are NOT gbc-games, they are true gb-games (even tough this gets confused very often due to their colored cartridge shells). these (and especially the donkey kong games) are basically the only true gb games with a non-grey shell (igoring japanese games and things like the gb-camera an rumble-games. some special rules apply there for certain titles). the gbc does heavy pallet-swapping-trickery to give the illusion of more colors when played in a GBC. This is very impressive, but it is still a classic gb-game (beisde that they released some time before the GBC). However, 2nd gen pokemon games (gold and silver but not crystal) ARE indeed so-called "hybrid games" as well as basically every game with a black shell (early ones are remakes of popular titles and share the appendix "DX" in the title).
    note on this: there are even some true GBC-games, that can detect, if they are beeing run in a GBA (the two legend of zelda oracle games are the most polular example). the best way to demo this difference on screen like you tried to do is with "legend of zelda - links awakening DX": on a GBC you can enter the special color-dungeon, on a regular GB you cannot. this is a special dungeon where you must solve some color-puzzles as some kind of showpiece in-game content to feature the GBCs capabilities to display color.

    • @SnakebitSTI
      @SnakebitSTI Před 3 měsíci

      I'm guessing they didn't replicate the lookup table the GBC uses to assign palettes to certain games like the GB Pokemon games. Or if they did, they didn't get all the colors right.
      By the way, Pokemon Yellow is a hybrid GB-GBC game, except for the Japanese version. The use of color is pretty minimal though, hardly an improvement over playing on Super Game Boy.

    I got one... and I am a bit disappointed.
    I updated to 1.04, i also have hardware revision 1.1.
    What I find frustrating is the big screen. While it's cool to have a bigger screen, I would much rather have
    a cool logo at the bottom and a battery indicator on the side than having a weirdly stretched image.
    especially on pokemon games, (crystal f.e.) you can see the right eye being weirdly off.
    not only that, also the navigation of the OSD menu is crazy... version 1.04 also has an update OSD menu... which looks pretty fucked up tbh.
    but fixes compatibility with EverDrive GB Model 17 and fixed the weird funny playing startup logo (i would much rather have the gameboy color logo back, but that's just me)
    what i really like about this is the gameboy color colorpalette for normal GB games.
    the reason i was interested in the fpga system was because:
    A: cheap
    B: new manufactured hardware
    C: bigger screen
    due to the bad way they implemented the bigger screen, I am not interested anymore...
    since this fpga system is basically nothing else than a normal GBC... and a normal GBC with an IPS mod is just as good.
    while the idea is awesome, the system is definitely at baby shoes level currently.

    • @makho
      @makho  Před 4 měsíci +1

      1. v1.06 firmware fixed the OSD transparency already. You should update if this is a sticking point for you.
      2. there's a battery indicator in the OSD and it's infinitely more useful than guestimating charge levels based on LED brightness
      3. I already discussed and linked to alternative parts if you prefer having a logo over screen real-estate. Read the video description.
      4. The new firmware update also has a patched bootloader version.
      5. Even if you don't use the full screen option, the 4x integer scale option is still about 2.6" so that's still larger than the 2.45" stock GBC screen.

    The problem that I have with all of this is that it's overpriced... With the amount of compatibilty issues right now this should be like $40-50.... Not at the original price that they want for this. I'm going to say the samething about the parts as well. Yes we can get a cheap shell for roughly $10.00 but worry about the plastic cracking.... I would love to get one of the shells from Retro Game Repair Shop and the metal buttons but they are overpricing that stuff as well... Shells that should be $25.00 buttons should be like $10-15.00.... It's kinda insane... Unless you buy all of the cheap parts to keep it under $100.... You are better off getting a Myoo Mini that has better parts and is cheaper...

      I'm in the market for real GBC and can't quite pull the trigger on this kit because the core inaccuracies (poor speed approximations, poor flashcart / game compatibility) are unacceptable. In that regard using a Miyoo Mini or even homebrew emulation on, say, a DS makes more sense than a FPGBC right now. If FunnyPlaying could perhaps look into improving their cores (or look into licensing use of an existing mature GBC core such as the one on MiSTerFPGA / Analogue Pocket) I'll probably jump on it immediately.
