    Hi Darren, this is abnormally good stuff. I am just 20% into your video when writing this comment - alone the hint about to get full screen mode with basic controls is worth watching.
    And, I just got me a sheet of paper and a pencil to write down the most important learnings of your video - wow, never did this before on any other tutorial.

    I went with the Studio version right out of the door and love it! I wasn't sold on the mainstream Premier Pro or Final Cut Pro and couldn't be happier with my decision. This software far exceeds my capabilities and understanding but that's the beauty of it. There's so much that it can do and so much for me to learn! Great video!

      @@hunter8980 Hi Chetan. I always have a notebook handy so I always write down subscribers suggestions, but usually an episode idea is triggered when I'm using Resolve in my daily colour grading wrk and I just think something would make a good tutorial, either for intermediate/advanced users or a good beginners one. I try and base them all on useful info and I dont have to try too hard to come up with ideas. I just wish I had more spare time to record them. I am booked until Mid-December on colour grading jobs so 1 every two or three weeks is about all I can stretch to at the moment as they take 1-2 days to make.

    Nice job again, Darren. Adding a little tip: you don't have to drag the OFX to a node, you can also drag it on a link line to add a new node with that effect.

    • @DarrenMostyn
      @DarrenMostyn  Před 2 lety +5

      Hi Robert. I find you have to be very specific exactly where you drop the effect in the node tree to be efficient - I graded 660 shots today for a BBC documentary - no time for errors, far easier to drop onto a node than make a 'new line addition' - but I appreciate your valued input and you are correct. All the best, darren.

    Welcome back to the YT world. "OFX tutorials "- great idea.
    I have been using the texture pop lately as well. Works really great on mountain terrains - so easy to make them pop with that OFX. Not sure if you know or not, but the Gamut Limiter OFX question - Is it just hard clipping gamuts or does it actually work like an audio limiter where it is a catch all to smoothly limit gamuts with varying intensities? I threw one in to my fixed node tree to safeguard the transition from a wide gamut into a LUT. Seems to work but don't know what's under the hood.
    Anyway - in depth OFX is something everybody should be looking forward to. I know I am.
    As I said to you before, there is hardly any reliable info out there on how, and where to use these effects. Even the great Davinci Resolve manual has hardly any info on them. ( rare for the Resolve manual ).

    Hi Darren, how are you? :)
    Just picked up a new 16" M1 Max (I'm sure many have), and with the 1000Nit Screen, it's going to look radically different to my 285nit (max) screen on my 2014 MBP, and I'm a bit unsure if I should be leaving it set to 1000 NITS or changing it up and down depending on my intended output.
    Could I be a bit cheeky and request a tutorial at some stage about how changing to a brighter screen may effect your SDR workflow, how to keep results consistent before and after the change, and how to get started with HDR?
    (And also... maybe a separate topic here, but with so many HDR screens out there now, how to make sure content looks it's best no matter where it's viewed?)
    Thanks for all you do mate. :) Best content out there.

    • @akyhne
      @akyhne Před rokem

      You should always change the display's output, to match.
      If you work in a dark room, the nits should be around 100-120 nits, for SDR.
      For HDR, it should be 1000 nits.
      Netflix demands 100 nits, and 1000 nits, respectively, and that you're in a dark room.
      I don't think there are any professional guidelines, for if you're not in a dark room, but you should strive, to be in an environment, as dark as possible.

    I have a Quick question. I just got DR studio and I’ve been editing some c200 raw footage that typically always need NR because there is no in camera NR being applied. Whenever I add NR in resolve my laptop lag bad but that not the issue I’m cool with turning off the NR node until the end of the edit but my problem is when it’s time to export the render take forever like 0.5 fps. I was thinking to get an egpu do you think that would speed up the process of exporting? My current laptop have a AMD Radeon 555x 4gb vram. I was looking at Blackmagic egpu.

    • @DarrenMostyn
      @DarrenMostyn  Před 2 lety +1

      The egpu will help a bit but you are only on 4GB Vram - this is pretty low if you use NR all the time. You wont suddenly get much faster - possibly double. NR at that frame rate is not unusual depending how much you add. NR and magic mask and neural engine is always intense on the system.

      @@DarrenMostyn hey, thanks for the reply. So I did some testing and I see that if I transcode the raw footage to prores LT I get about 3fps during export with the same grade so that may be my solution for now until I upgrade my work station or try an egpu with atleast 8GB vram. I do t always have to use NR but for shots with slot of shadows on the c200 cinema raw footage just be noisy in the shadows.

    Hi Darren ! Quick question. I’ve made a video on iPhone 11 Pro Max . Awesome quality footage in the sunny daylight. Edited in Davinci Resolve. On timeline it looks awesome , very good colours. After exporting the footage looks darker. After uploading to CZcams it looks a bit more darker than on timeline. Am I doing something wrong ?

      Are you on a MAC?
      There's an issue (or was?), in the Apple ecosystem with color management. Therefore you have to use the output colors pace Rec709a, instead of Rec709, in the project settings.

    Hi Darren, Will you be buying the new Apple MacBook Pro with the new M1 Max chip? Apple says in its presentation, the M1 Max is faster than the fastest intel Mac Pro with After Burner installed. As we know you have After Burner, also you use Davinci Resolve for living, will you have a chance to review the latest M1 Max, and let us know if it can really replace the most expensive configurations? Many thanks...

      @DarrenMostyn  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi. It is certainly tempting, but no laptop would replace my mac pro grading suite set up even if it were quicker - the cooling couldn't possibly hold up to rendering out 4K jobs that are an hour long or 90 mins or even features. If I get one, which Im very tempted, I'll certainly review it! All the best, darren.

    Great!
    is there any step to mark automatically according to the beats in the music/sound wave form?
    Say for example, if the audio contains a repeated beat, do we have any easy options to mark those beat?
    Is there any step to snap the play head to move on the markers?
    Please help!!

It's mostly just general overview videos and rarely do they sell the effect's purpose at all.
