On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

The way planes like the Su-57 and F-22 move through the air feels like it defies physics.
Pretty great that Maverick's signature move is ultimate what netted the kill for the F/A-18.
Once again goes to show that when even normal dogfighting fails you, a cobra maneuver CAN save your life if properly executed in a 1v1 dogfight. Well done dude!
Technically not a cobra, but yes, the one in one hundred situation, stalling might work.

@Asghaad the SU-57 would be destroyed in HOBS by the F-35 though. Lol. The F-35 DAS can achieve lock on at any angle, above, below, behind, wherever, it can see and lock on, that's not even counting the fact its electronic warfare suite would blind the Felon and render it defenseless before they ever even merge.

If they had given Tom Cruise a Raptor, it wouldn't have been a Navy recruiting film. That's why the Navy needs a Tomcat II--an absolute missile-slinging beast with a long loiter time and enough stealth to make you wonder if you're being watched as you're approaching the carrier group.
Sadly, there will never be a tomcat 2. The best the navy can offer you is a single engine F35 with a zillion software bugs and no Find-my-F35 app.

GS has had the F22 vs F35 tested in a dogfight and it is F22 win every time.

I have never played DCS, but I wanted to know when you are shot down do you have to go back to base and go through the start-up process on the plane and take off, or is there a by-pass or "continue" option that respawns you in the air with your armament so you can pick up where you left off?
If Mav would have gotten a F-22 I would have asked when he left the Navy to join the Air Force :D

For most of the video it looked like Felon was simply playing with you :D Last kill was nice though. So technically there is always a chance, but it requires to bet everything on one very risky maneuver, and if you mess up you're done.
F-22 would kinda devalue Mavericks amazing, otherwordly piloting skills, so it would be then more about the plane than the pilot.
To say nothing of it being an aircraft with which he has no firsthand experience suggested in universe.
If you want to do the Top Gun intercept you should do a 4vX situation with the 4 Hornets on the deck and however many Su-57s you want diving in. Definitely feel like this channel is missing wingman coordination stuff which would do a lot to liven up content.

To be more like the challenge presented in the film, the F-18 should be heading towards a specific geomarker with the Su-57 starting at BVR range and closing in where the Hornet might not be able to see

Pretty much all missiles do, the aim 9x can pull about 60 Gs, it's just about nose positioning relative between the aircraft

In DCS, the Felon is a formidable adversary, apparently on the level of the F-22. But in reality, it seems that the Felon isn't all that respected as a fighter jet. Or am I missing something?
It’s mostly due to the fact that there aren’t that many of them, and antagonism against just about anything Russian at the moment. In reality the Felon likely already has combat air-to-air kills (against planes mind you, not balloons).

Well top gun 2 if it had an f22 would mean that they would've had to take off from an airforce base. As well as not land on the aircraft carrier. And I think top gun is a naval aviation school. So no f22
You can land an F-22 on an aircraft carrier. I mean, you can only do it once, and you won't be able to fly it again, but it can still be done
Mav would have had hundreds of thousands of hours in a fighter jet and possibly tens of thousands of hours in combat/training situations. The SU pilot likely had simulator time, BVR training and little dog fighting time.
I think you should retry this with a good newer competitor.

Well, taking the Su-57 on BVR might help. As those exposed Philips head screws all over the Su-57 in every close up photo you can find on the net are 'SUPER' stealthy.
I don't see them on current production models though

I think another thing to remember about fighting a 5th Gen fighter, or whatever the new hotness is, is that they also don't put their run of the mill, average Ivan in the pilot seat of those. It's the best pilots they have. That equals very bad day

Probably the dumbest question on the topic of air combat/dog fighting, but why can't they mount something like a mini-CWIS on a plane to allow you more angles (i.e. opportunities) to shoot a target? On every fighter aircraft you have to be facing the target (or nearly facing) to use your guns/missiles. I would think that even with limited movement you could probably get a turret that gives at least 180 degrees versus nose/wing mounted that only give maybe 0-10 degrees of coverage?
Helicopters like the Apache do that. The gun tracks where the pilot is looking.
Problem is, jets move much faster and *need* to move much faster because of the way missiles work (a fast fighter gives its missiles more range and the pilot better a better chance to survive any missiles launched at them). A big gimbal or turret setup on a fighter would completely screw up its aerodynamics and its handling. Since most real combat happens with missiles and not guns, the trade offs just aren't worth it.
@@winterscrescendo Agreed. I just always thought it was funny watching these dogfight sims that 90% of the time is the two planes trying to get into position. I mean in the one where it was the F-18 v the Su-57, it just seemed like there was a so many times where if you had such a system, the pilot could have made the kill shot. Even after all these years, dogfighting in planes hasn't really changed at all.
We have no idea if the SU pilots were competent. Not many air forces can train like us. You’re fighting a really good bogey with skills.
I mean you can go on and on with variables. In a real life scenario, the fighter wouldn't even go for a merge. They would launch their Fox3s and fly away, to save the aircraft. They would also operate with AWACS and Russian doctrine dictates they would be behind echeloned air defenses anyway. So there you have it.
