Hundreds of hairs a day and noticeable thinning all over the top of my scalp. All longer hair. Then realized it started about six weeks after Covid. Was sick for over a month. No real loss on crown, from right behind hairline and all over thinning. Shedding has finally slowed down and now it’s just a waiting game to see growth come back.

Keto gave me TE. I’m 18, I’d just gotten out of highschool. I used to diet for aesthetics over school breaks when I had nothing to do. I did it healthy and Had a great exercise routine. Fast forward after highschool, I had a job I hated, and I was buying my own food for the first time in my life. My keto turned into a messed up way to save money. This bit me in the butt 3 months later. I also had a high fever around that time, stress, nutrient deficiency, bad sleep. I’d always been healthy but I learned I needed to be aware when so much change is happening in my life.

I'm shedding under 100 hairs a day, all full length hairs, no vellus hair, but I'm not seeing the hair come back and Im losing my hairline. Any advice is appreciated on what it could be. You said, "patients that shed less than 100 hairs, but 10% or more of them were vellus hairs had AGA" and "patients who shed over 100 hairs a day, and more than 10% of them were terminal hairs, have TE". I just need more clarification because I fall into both categories as far as less than 100 hairs shed a day but all of them are terminal hairs, but I see loss in density month after month... I'm confused and I dont know whats causing it. Trying to see a specialist about it but yeah that info didn't make sense to me.

I’m currently having thinning mostly on my scalp. I just recently had some huge life events happen mainly graduating engineering school, searching for a job and interviewing with a very large company. These events I believe stacked on top of my very poor mental health, I have been suffering with severe anxiety and depression for roughly 11 or 12 years now, I think this caused me to have TE. My family doesn’t have a history of balding on both mom and dad’s sides. So I’m ruling out pattern baldness but I will watch for it. I also noticed that the hairs that are falling have the white bulb on the end. I’m taking a few vitamins and my stress has been getting better especially since I got the job.

I have very dry skin but very healthy hair. I have a few split ends, not a lot, but I’ve had them for a while and my longest hairs (reaching the bottom of my pectoral muscles) are split, so my hairs still growing with split ends. It’s just little things like that where I’m afraid your tips may not help me personally and I’d like to know if there are any other sources for tips for strange hair behavior like mine. Thanks dawg!
Edit: Also I’d like to add, my hair is great, I’m only looking for tips just in case I need them one day because I’m just 17 currently and I may start modeling, so in the middle of my career I don’t want to start having complications. Thanks again!

My own hair growth lenght is more or less, but very similiar what you have. I noticed this, while I let my hair just be. But after 4 years the lenght remain the same. I do use hair salon services 1-2 times a year. And they usually cut the end tails and check all the split ends. Anyway, there is a limit to hair grown but then there are some exceptions you may see in internet and that's purely because of genes so don't get upset if your hair won't be 6 meters long or your muscles hard as marble ; )

I agree with you i have learned a lot but one thing i want to note. My te started years ago and yes very long thick dark hairs fall off every hour. Hair shedding was happening in a way that growth doesnt catch up to that fast. After a while those thick hairs turned to thin hairs because simply the issue was going on for a long time. So yes timing is also important. My hair started falling off out of nowhere.

TE sucks! This is quite an experience, identified the stresser, the narcissist, eliminated, but thats not all folks, here comes the ruminating thoughts, 3 months later, more shedding, oh here we go again, now I get a health care (stress) from that situation, more shedding. Last but not least, thoughts... omg I’m going bald and lost so much weight... more shedding! Once that stress of the sympathetic nervous system is turned on, it’s on! I’ve been shedding for about 12 months now, not bald, but it’s bad. I do see a lot of new growth, but this is gonna take awhile to get back to normal. My hair extensions suck, especially in the heat...
    Keep truckin!
Don’t stress on your hair fall, so much easier said then done, but it’s a must!
Your cortisol levels and thoughts can make this last a very long time, way longer than doctors say (which is usually 6 months) I say up to 18 months of you let it
    Cheers!

Maybe you guys can help me out with this because I’m still contemplating if I have TE or MPB. Im an overthinker and im probably just being unreasonable. I am 21 years old/male and my moms side of the family is Native American with no history of MPB. My dad however is bald inherited from his mother’s side (my grandmother), however my grandfather from my dads side is 80 and still has magnificent hair. I did a DNA test with 23andme years ago and it also said I had a 91% chance of not going bald genetically speaking. Whether that means anything, who knows.
3-4 months ago my mom and I had a really bad case of meningitis that had us both bedridden for a month. We also both have genetic anemia as it runs heavily in my family (almost all family members on my mom side have it.) Both of us just recently started shedding hair. She began first losing tons of hair a month ago and my hair began falling out right after. This makes sense as she was infected with meningitis first, then gave it to me afterward.
On top of that, I’ve recently been training to join the Marine Corps and in order to do that I’ve had to drop considerable weight. I’ve gone from 290 pounds to 200 in about a month and a half. As of recent I’ve tried to incorporate more protein and fruits and what not…but my diet before just two weeks ago has been purely mozzarella cheese. Long story short, I own an Italian restaurant and am able to get great deals on fresh mozzarella made for antipasto and caprese salads. I was eating this daily since I didn’t have to pay for it and it made me less hungry. I come to find out that not only does it reduce iron absorption (making my anemia worse) but it also causes hair loss.
The hair that comes out typically has the white bulbs as well. They are all very long and come out when I gently run my hand through my hair. I lost a few hairs on the front of my head (almost unnoticeable) and I can still see the hair follicles.
I’ve asked multiple friends if they’ve noticed a difference and most of them have said no and the ones who did notice said there was minor thinning.
So what do you guys think?? Am I going bald or do I have TE

All the men in my family have a very pronounced widow's peak, that made me think that I was going bald but no hahah, I don't like it but I have to accept it in my genes.
I only see that my hair falls out when I take hormonal pills to control my thyroid, that's all for now.

I don’t know if I’m losing hair or not… I’ve always had a cowlick at my crown but it’s more noticeable now with my long hair. Too scared to cut it. I was severely vitamin d deficient so that could’ve been the culprit but I’m not sure. Keeping positive though, and if needed I will go for a transplant. Thank God for doctors.

i'm going through sudden extreme hair shedding so much so that i pull out several strands just by running through it and my bed is always surrounded by hair. Wash days are the worst where i panic so much. I also have longish curly hair so i don't brush much so it's worse. I counted and its about 110 hair a day, sometimes even more. I also have dandruff issues.the hair shedding is on all sides, especially on my sides and back. Hell my sides are almost bald :((

Hi, if you could help me then i'd greatly appreciate. I've been trying to grow my hair out for 6-9 months. About 4 months ago I started taking 10,000 mgc biotin per day to help my hair grow. I then abrutly stopped about 3/4 weeks ago. I have been noticing a larger than normal amount of hair shedding on my pillow each morning. The hairs are shorter, mostly about 1-2" long. Do you think this is the result of me stopping taking biotin, and should I be concerned about this?

I'm currently having TE, but of all the hairs that shed, there are hairs that 3cm and shorter. I'm also on dutasteride, so it should not be AGA, right. And the sudden hair loss is very rapid, within 3 months.

  • @KevinRynd

I'm 98% sure I'm dealing with TE after being sick with the rona running a fever for two weeks. I've noticed almost all my hairs that I shed have the little white bulb at the end. With TE are all the hairs that will be lost already lost? For instance I'm scared to wash or touch my hair for fear of losing more hair, but if the hair is already lost then I should be focusing on the regrowth to hopefully come in a few months

Yep. It’s more on wash days because your shed hairs accumulate and stay stuck in your hair. When you wash you get them all out

It’s not new growth unless there’s a reason for there to be new growth if you started finasteride or something. The “baby hairs” might miniaturization.

Could this be because of stress at work, shampooing hair everyday (something i do because of pandemic), poor diet?

I shed like a dog or worse. My head and leg hairs are everywhere! I purchased a Samsung Pet vacuum cleaner and it's a lot of work for the place to be covered in my hair soon after. What makes it difficult is that the hairs get into all the odd hard to reach little places.
I've thought of cutting my hair short but I know I'll regret it as usual.
My leg hairs I need to find a solution that will not irritate my skin nor develop ingrown hairs.
