  • Game-based math…play-based math…activity-based math…whatever you call it, it’s awesome.
    So awesome that I accidentally bought TWO similar programs for the same grade. (Oops. I'll blame that on being overseas and not being in-person to go through the packages well.)
    When you find yourself with lots of books, why not make a comparison video?
    That’s just what I’ve done.
    And hopefully this video can help you choose a great kindergarten math program for your child’s/student’s needs.
    If you’re curious about the price point of each of these programs, here are the 2022 prices (as of this video):
    Right Start Math Level A + manipulative kit: $180
    Kindergarten Math with Confidence: $50
    (Also note that much lower prices often appear on eBay.)
    And while you're here, help me out, people! We only have so much luggage space. Which program would you choose to cart across the globe in your suitcase? Tell me in the comments below!
    EDITED TO ADD: An observant viewer noted that the Right Start Math Level A in this video is the first edition. (Thank you, friend!) Just thought you should know... ;)
    Hugs!
    ~Sarah

    Hi! I’m Sarah. I’m so glad you’re here! Make yourself cozy, because I hope to be chatting a lot with you in this online "home."
    I'm wife to a Brazilian soccer coach and mama to two precious, bilingual boys. We live internationally and speak multiple languages in our home. If you ask my family where we are from, you might hear a little hesitant pause as we debate how to condense a lifetime of story down into a two-second answer. (Do we say the USA? That would only be about a third true. Brazil? Same deal. Thailand? Asia? Do we share that our families include in-laws from Europe and South America?)
    We are on a journey to nurture our family at home and abroad--wherever we live.
    Here on my channel, you will find bilingual homeschool (and bilingual family), recipes from our "homes" around the world, motherhood, homemaking, baby and toddler tips, travel, and expat life.

    I accidentally bought 2⃣ similar kindergarten math curriculums.🤪 Hopefully my mistake can help you compare these two curriculums and make the best choice for your family.
    ➡For a review of Right Start Math Level A, see Summer Meyers's video here: czcams.com/video/XWQAjgxbt8I/video.html
    Which of the two math curricula would you choose?⁉

    I love these kind of videos. It helps so much to see how they are laid out. I've heard so many great things about Kate Snow's program. I think a lot of RS families transition to MWC if RS doesn't work for them. 😍😍❤️ Both look solid! 👏👏

    We have tried both of these (and many others) and we love rightstart 2nd edition the most at this point. We tried the first edition but idk…something about it wasn’t for me as a teacher . My son does love a good worksheet so we’re are also doing dimensions and he enjoys that too (but he hasn’t learned anything new from dimensions at this point… he just enjoys doing to worksheets and activities). I think the way Rightstart teaches is so clever and EFFICIENT. They do an amazing job at stringing and relating concepts together across the levels.

      I love this! Thank you so much for sharing! It's so helpful to know what has worked for other families. I'm glad you guys found a program that you love. 🥰❤
      That's so cute that your son loves worksheets! 😃
      I'm wondering now which edition I have...I'll have to go check...

    Kindergarten Math with Confidence would be my choice.

    This was my debate for next year- these 2 programs (and Singapore thrown in there for our older ones, to also debate over). So much is similar between these 2 in particular. I ultimately decided on MWC for our younger 2 school aged, and Singapore math primary 2022 for our older 2. My main reason was the time factor- MWC feels a bit more streamlined, a few less manipulatives, and also is a mid-range program for challenge. I think it will be a good fit. We tried MWC K & 1 as review after our younger 2 completed their Singapore programs this spring, so I also have the benefit of being more familiar with it. I agree though that either would be great!

      Thanks so much for your input! These programs are SO similar, aren't they? I'd love to do both (FOMO, for real-haha), but I think we have decided on MWC primarily for the sake of space in our luggage and then also for the time factor (as you mentioned). We have around a year left before we will start using it (my oldest is in preschool right now), so I'd love to hear how it goes for you! ❤️
      Singapore math also sounds excellent!

    "accidentally" bought 2 hehehe....I have zero experience with RightStart, some of the things I really like about Kate Snow's books are the picture book suggestions and the fewer manipulatives (larger focus on using whatever you have on hand as manipulatives)

    • @MyHomeYourHomeOurHome
      @MyHomeYourHomeOurHome  Před 2 lety

      Yeah...haha. I told my mom, and she laughed. 😂I've done it too often now. I once ordered two Curious George book anthologies from separate places too. No idea how that happened. 🤪
      So good to know about the strong points of Kindergarten Math with Confidence! We've been loving the simplicity of Preschool Math at Home.
      And the preference of fewer manipulative supplies makes sense. I don't like chasing down pieces after a lesson, but I also like having less prep. Have you found that Kindergarten Math with Confidence takes a bit of prep work before a lesson?

    • @SevenInAll
      @SevenInAll Před 2 lety

      @@MyHomeYourHomeOurHome I haven't actually started Kindergarten Math at Home yet (because we're on our home trip now), although I've ordered it. From looking at it I feel like the prep work is pretty similar to preschool math at home.

    Don't know if this is too late, but definitely Math with Confidence for international travel! Don't need to bring manipulatives at all if you don't want to (she has printouts in back if you really need them, though I really prefer having pattern blocks on hand). Also, she writes in adaptations for using metric and international units instead of American measures. One can of course adapt on the fly, but i really appreciate how understanding the author is of international living.
    That said, I've only used MwC 1st Grade, not kindergarten. We didn't use the literature at all because we did something different for the extra day of the week. I have no experience with Right Starr.
    Another perk, if ever unable to travel for whatever reason, MwC is available in PDF.

      Oooohh...I wasn't aware of the adaptations for the metric system available in the book! That's so perfect! My husband is Brazilian, so I am aware of how tiring it gets to constantly convert inches to cm, feet to meters, etc....Thank you so much for your input! ❤️

    We LOVE Rightstart Math!! We've used it for 3 years now and I'm more in love now than when we started! My kids are all very different learners and all 3 have excelled in math and have such a great number sense! I've learned so much too!! 😂
    I haven't used MWC, but I've heard lots of great things about it! I know Kate Snow actually used Rightstart Math for her kids- so I'm sure they are very similar! You can't go wrong with either!
    I also wanted to add that it looks like you have the 1st edition of Rightstart Math... I'm not sure what the differences are, but I thought I would let you know!

      That's so good to hear! I love it when you can see great results from your homeschooling time investment, like with your kids' number sense and math excellence. 🥰
      And thank you so much! I hadn't realized that there was more than one edition of Right Start Math. Good to know! I should add that to the description so people know. Thank you! ❤️

      Can you help me? I am a certified elementary school teacher. I love Math and Reading. I have level A for my kindergartener. It is painfully slow. Did you feel like that at first? I also don't like the constant jumping around to different concepts even within the same lesson.

    • @MrsPerdueArt
      @MrsPerdueArt Před rokem +2

      @@pinkorganichorse are you asking about Rightstart? Level a starts very easy- but I do feel like it’s setting a very good foundation in number sense! That being said, with my oldest I did skip to level B, but I didn’t realize that Rightstart levels are set up all the same where the first half is arithmetic and the second half is time, money, geometry, measurement, etc. so since I skipped the second half of A we didn’t get to all those topics until later in B. Math came super easy for him, so it was fine, but I do like to point that out.
      My 6yo is currently about halfway through level A and is doing super well! I thought about moving him up to level B, but I decided to let my son have the confidence and reinforcement of concepts. Now that I’m on level D with my oldest, I love doing the level A lessons and seeing how they’re setting up an amazing foundation!! It’s such an amazing program!! 😍

      @@pinkorganichorse Sorry that it's going slowly. We decided to use Math with Confidence (mostly because of luggage space and simplicity), so I can't give much advice about Right Start. Glad to see that Therese was able to provide some insight in her comment. :) Summer Meyers is a CZcams homeschool mom who has a lot of experience with Right Start specifically and maybe could provide some help.
