- The Walkie Talkies of Jaws: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
In this video we take a look at a couple of walkie talkies that made a brief but significant appearance in one of the biggest movies of all time. - Věda a technologie
The successor to the HT220 was the MX Series. I used a few of the HT220s, when I worked for a railroad. My father used the MX Series radios, when he was in the U.S. Coast Guard. Both were very durable radios in their time.
"You gonna need a bigger wallet " priceless 😂😂
I'm only commenting because you can't like another comment twice.
When I became a Cop, in 1995. Our small, local, Police Deptarment still had & used Motorola radios, similar to these. It wasn't long after that when we upgraded to a more modern model. But those were durable HT's.
I got into Ham Radio, during that time. And my little Yaseu FT-411 did so much more! (I still have that little radio too! Even though it needs a repaired battery tad.)
My appendix burst near the end of the movie. We waited hours in line to see it. When the shark bit Quint and the blood came out of his mouth, I howled out in pain. To this day, I still haven’t seen it in its entirety.
It was on TV the other day.
Wow!! I found this video by accident. I've wondered what kind of radios they were for about 30 years. Thank you for sharing the info 👍.
FWIW: I no longer remember exactly where, but at one point years ago I worked at a job that had those radios, or ones just like them.
Might have been at my first job ever, 1979-1980, working the flight line at a small airport in St. Petersburg, Florida, where I am originally from.
{YES, walkie-talkies and airplanes existed in 1979...😉}
Very interesting video. I have various walkie talkies dating back from the late 70's, but also an old (1980's?) Police radio when they could still be heard on scanners. It's made by PYE. Looks like a simple walkie talkie, but also has the speaker / mic 'lapel' extension that the antenna can be fitted to if using. It does power up, but the original removable rechargeable battery (makes up half the radios body) is shot.
Excellent video mate , love the old stuff 👍
One of my favorite TV shows, here in the USA, is the BBC show "Death in Paradise". In the latest season (11?) The island team of Police Officers, has started using HT's. They appear to the Baofeng UV-5R radios. They have those unmistakeable red and blue buttons, and the jem style knobs!
I chuckeld to myself, when I first saw them. I thought the TV show's budget, could have gotten some better props! But those radios do work!
I think they nick named this radio the brick as newer versions entered service when I lived in the UK we used the Police issue Motorola HT600E in a harness, over in the US I'm issued with a 16ch ICOM F1100D a big change in style from the 70's.. Thanks for sharing Paul
I like these historical looks at old radios on TV & films. Interesting. Did you ever complete the PF8 working replica?
No it's still half done, watch this space though
I DO remember that scene - or remember seeing it later. "your're gonna need a bigger wallet" 😁 I see what you done there😉 Great throw-back review!👍
Nice easy to enjoy video 😎
well researched and constructed video KM, thoroughly🙃🙂 enjoyed it🙃
Brilliant piece of work here knoxie…
Interesting stuff, I wonder if they were the radios used by the crew making the movie, just a wild guess.

Omg this is so good knoxieman . I love to know this kind of detail!
Hi I've been subscribed to your channel for a while and love your reviews of the old 1970s walkie talkies.. I've been looking on Google a few times for the models I had and finally found them tonight.. They are eurosonic and would love if you could find some to review... Thanks Jess entwistle...
@knoxieman >>> Great video...👍
How about covering the Pye PF1 with its novel antenna? I've seen it in The Sweeney, The New Avengers and other shows where they always portray it as a transceiver, which of course it is not. I still have a mint TX PF1in the original case though the Varta 18v has long since expired.
I hate Jaws, but I'm always interested in finding out about old radios. They look really cool.
surprised they havent changed the name of the shark yet. great white
Lol u know I thought that a while ago as well, it won't be long
I'm 57 years old and I have NEVER seen Jaws!
